Humans of Music
"We got a massive hit for our first break with ‘Robot’ and went from playing zero gigs to every Friday and Saturday. We were completely thrown into the deep end. We kind of made some bad decisions at that point by saying yes to every remix offer that came along without knowing whether it was right for us because we didn’t have the experience or knowledge on how to manage ourselves. We have always been able to sustain making music as a living but for three years we were just kind of riding high because we were this hot new act. After a while it started to peter off and we were like, “Oh! What’s going on? We thought this would last forever.” I guess it’s like how anybody would think of it if there started off doing so well. At that point we panicked and were trying to figure out what’s changed and what do we need to do. We started looking at what music do we need to make to get back to where we were. That was a big mistake.
If you are going to second guess what people want, you start writing music like that. Even if you write what people want by the time the music comes out, people want something different.
