NDA Union Ministers used to visit Manipur every week and at times every other day in the run up to the 2022 Assembly elections in the state.

Since the outbreak of ethnic violence, only the Union Home Minister has visited once, that too after a delay of more than a month… with no tangible impact to show.

Meanwhile, first it was and now the delegation of 20 MPs from Team INDIA, who are there in Manipur — listening to the pain, anguish and horror of both the communities, appealing for peace, taking stock of the condition of the relief camps across Manipur, and trying to build bridges.

*INDIA*
We, the undersigned leaders of India’s 26 progressive parties, express our steadfast resolve to safeguard the idea of India as enshrined in the Constitution. The character of our republic is being severely assaulted in a systematic manner by the BJP. We are at a most crucial juncture in our nation’s history. The foundational pillars of the Indian Constitution – secular democracy, economic sovereignty, social justice and federalism – are being methodically and menacingly undermined.

We express our grave concern over the humanitarian tragedy that has destroyed Manipur. The silence of the Prime Minister is shocking and unprecedented. There is an urgent need to bring Manipur back on the path of peace and reconciliation.

We are determined to combat and confront the continuing assault on the Constitution and on constitutional rights of democratically elected state governments. There is a deliberate attempt to weaken the federal structure of our polity. The role of Governors & LGs in non-BJP ruled states has exceeded all constitutional norms. The brazen misuse of agencies by the BJP government against political rivals is undermining our democracy. Legitimate needs, requirements and entitlements of non BJP ruled states are being actively denied by the Centre.

We reinforce our resolve to confront the grave economic crisis of ever-rising prices of essential commodities and record unemployment. Demonetisation brought with it untold misery to the MSME and unorganised sectors, resulting in large scale unemployment among our youth. We oppose the reckless sale of the nation’s wealth to favored friends. We must build a fair economy with a strong and strategic public sector as well as a competitive and flourishing private sector, in which the spirit of enterprise is fostered and given every opportunity to expand. The welfare of Kisan and Khet Mazdur should always get the highest priority.

We have come together to defeat the hatred and violence being manufactured against minorities; stop the rising crimes against women, Dalits, Adivasis and Kashmiri Pandits; demand a fair hearing for all socially, educationally and economically backward communities; and, as a first step, implement the Caste Census.

We resolve to fight the systemic conspiracy by BJP to target, persecute and suppress our fellow Indians. Their poisonous campaign of hate has led to vicious violence against all those opposed to the ruling party and its divisive ideology. These attacks are not only violating constitutional rights and freedoms but also eroding the basic values upon which the Republic of India is founded - Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and Justice – Political, Economic and Social. The repeated attempts by the BJP to vitiate public discourse by reinventing and rewriting Indian history are an affront to social harmony.

We pledge to present to the nation an alternative political, social and economic agenda. We promise to transform both the substance and style of governance that will be more consultative, democratic and participative.

Sh. ji will be visiting Manipur on 29-30 June. He will visit relief camps and interact with civil society representatives in Imphal and Churachandpur during his visit.

Manipur has been burning for nearly two months, and desperately needs a healing touch so that the society can move from conflict to peace. This is a humanitarian tragedy and it is our responsibility to be a force of love, not hate.

10 parties urge Modi to take cue from Vjpayee to reach out to people of Manipur

NEW DELHI, June 17: Regretting the intriguing indifference of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his stone-silence on the raging violence in Manipur that has left about 120 people dead and thousands others injured and homeless, ten opposition parties led by the Congress today urged him (the PM) to take cue from his BJP predecessor Atal Biharee Vajpayee to reach out to the people of violence ridden Manipur.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, the leaders of the ten opposition parties led by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh recalled as how exactly twenty-two years ago on June 19, 2001 when Manipur was burning with violence the same way, the then PM Vajpayee had appealed for peace and also met an all party delegation within six days after the violence broke down.
Mr Ramesh blamed the ideology of the RSS and the politics of the BJP for violence in Manipur saying not only there but in other states also this ideology and politics was responsible for violence and polarization.
The opposition leaders pointed out, in strong contrast, the Prime Minister has not spoken a word about Manipur, nor appealed for peace and not even expressed solidarity with the people there. They said this had deeply hurt the people of Manipur and they had started wondering whether they were part of India.
Mr Ramesh said, the then Prime Minister had issued appeals for peace twice and also met the all party delegations twice, first the leaders of various political parties and later all the MLAs and MPs from Manipur belonging to all the political parties.
The opposition leaders, most of whom have come from Manipur, said they were staying put in Delhi, hoping that the Prime Minister may be able to spare some time for the people of Manipur and listen to their pain, before leaving for his US visit on June 20. They said, people of Manipur were feeling deeply hurt.
They said, there was complete collapse of law and order in Manipur, pointing out how the house of the union minister of state for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh had been set on fire in Imphal. They said, even after 45 days, there has been no let up in violence.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr O Ibobi Singh, who has served thrice as Chief Minister of Manipur, reminded the Prime Minister that Manipur belongs to India and is as much a part of the country as any other place. However, he added, the way the Prime Minister had remained indifferent towards the violence in the state by not saying a single word or doing a single tweet, has made people there wonder whether they were part of the same country.
The leaders expressed hope that they will get time from the Prime Minister before he leaves for his tour to the United States and Egypt.
The leaders who addressed the joint press conference today, represented besides the Congress, the Janata Dal-United, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India-Marxist, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, All India Forward Bloc, Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena-Thackeray and Revolutionary Social Party.

An important part of India - the North Eastern State of Manipur is up in flames. The state of Manipur is torn by communal riots. Incidents of arson, violence, murder and property being destroyed and burnt down are deeply worrying. 8 out of the 16 districts of the state which is nearly half the state is under curfew, internet services have been suspended and trains have been banned from entering Manipur.

The Prime Minister and the Home Minister have authorised the Governor to issue shoot at sight orders. It is clear that Law and order has completely collapsed and ministers as well as legislators including Olympians like Mary Kom are asking the Prime Minister and Home Minister to save Manipur, the state which is burning.

But the biggest irony is that both the prime minister and the home Minister have turned a blind eye to violence and communal riots in Manipur, ans are instead focusing and electioneering in Karnataka. It clearly doesn’t matter to them whether any state in the country including Manipur goes up in flames. All that matters to them is vote, bank politics.

Mr Modi and Mr Amit Shah. Did you seek votes in Manipur to preside over riots. When you come to Karnataka Mr Shah, and say that there will be riots if you are not elected to power - what would you say about the worst communal and ethnic riots in Manipur where you are in government?

The situation in Manipur is rapidly deteriorating and the home minister has no moral authority whatsoever to remain in his position. He should immediately resign and President’s rule should be imposed in Manipur under article 356 of the Indian constitution.

Mr Modi, you are the elected prime minister of India. Please stop seeking votes in Karnataka and instead go and follow your Raj Dharma which is to restore peace, order and normalcy in the state of Manipur
