The Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR) sponsored workshop under Short-Term Empirical Research Projects 2023-24. A collaborative research project “Smart Cities Mission: Mapping the Impact of Smart Cities Mission through Citizen Perspectives- A Multi-Site study of selected Districts in the States of Maharashtra and Gujarat” collaborative research project with the joint efforts of research teams from three Universities ( University Of Mumbai, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad University). The workshop was organized by Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies.
The project was dedicated to evaluating the level of public awareness, understanding, and the actual effects on resident’s quality of life regarding Smart City initiatives. This involves using a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods such as surveys, focus groups, and analyzing secondary data. The project highlights the importance of improving communication strategies, promoting inclusive planning, and addressing the digital divide to ensure the success of the Smart City mission. This collaborative effort not only offers insights into the present state of Smart City initiatives but also sets out a roadmap for future enhancements, with the goal of promoting a more inclusive, sustainable, and efficiently managed urban environment.
The success of this workshop and collaborative research project would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our director Dr. Smita Shukla, all the research investigators Dr. Anjali Gokhru, Siddhartha Saxena , Dr. Naina Salve , Rakesh Malusare & Dr. Abhiraj Shivdas, research associates, research assistants, and all the faculty members.
