[Audio Version]: ETI-Unplugged: Episode 30: Functional Business Analyst - what the heck is that ? A conversation with Suvi V.
Suvi V. shares her personal journey with Kumaran Anandan and Deepak Sharma from being a tester in a big IT services company to being in a leader in a business function role - though closely connected with IT. Moving from pure technology to architecture - called a "functional business analyst". The exposure to new banking business back office operations. Playing the interpreter between business and technology. Identifying missing links in the requirements - by stepping on "land mines". Divorcing IT and marrying business! Fail fast versus the succeed quickly mindset of East Asia. The businesses are still struggling to align to Agile. The frustration of hour long 'stand-up' calls. More implementations happen in the past year, than ever before. Suvi's advice to the 'foot soldiers' of IT : give me new out of box solutions faster. It is sad that IT has become a factory. For the 'border-line' (border of IT and business) people: Keep it simple.

[Video Version]: ETI-Unplugged: Episode 29: Project Management is dead - long live Project Management!
Kumaran Anandan , Deepak Sharma, Nagarajan Ramanadhan, Venkatesan Oosur Vinayagam and Nishanth K Pillai discuss, is Agile really replacing project management? With never ending cycles, do we even have anything called a traditional project which starts and ends? Agile has enabled more engagement with business. Business is beginning to accept small failures. Since the outcome is so unpredictable - what happens to delivery timelines? Projects have become MVPs (Minimum Viable Products). If you cannot predictably manage your work for two weeks, you have no idea of what you are doing. 80% of the project fail to deliver. Project Management as a concept has failed - because it has failed to deal with reality. There is a need to move from project management to release management. It is about delivering on commitment. Digital Technologies today enable us to do MVPs in almost any field, including brain surgery. Acknowledging failure explicitly is path towards delivering on commitments.

[Video Version]: ETI-Unplugged: Episode 28: OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) in Enterprise IT - illusion of progress?
Kumaran explains to Deepak Sharma how to get the objective right before deciding the key results. It is about defining the correct problem to solve. Business and IT can use the same OKRs. How are KPIs and Key Results connected? KPI never tells you if you are successful or not - it is left to interpretation. The issues with the classical score card model. The illusion of progress. Do numbers really drive behaviour? How can you make OKRs when objectives seem vague? Efficiency versus effectiveness. Common pitfalls when using OKRs. What is the ideal frequency of defining and evaluating the OKRs. Does OKR work at the individual level?

[Video Version]: ETI-Unplugged: Episode 27: Enterprise IT Culture - full-stack to no-stack!
Kumaran Anandan and Deepak Sharma discuss if there is something real about "IT Culture". Has there been a change in the "belief system". Is there a focus on outcomes that has forced this change. Writing a lot of code is no longer a sign of quality outcome. "Not invented here" should be a thing of the past. "Full stack developer" vs "No-stack developers". The remote working world has made a need for new meeting culture to evolve to create the efficiency of a face to face meeting. Can we create a "water cooler" effect in the virtual meeting scenarios. Senior leaders need to actively need to increase their exposure to successful case studies and articles related to new cultural approaches.

[Video Version]: ETI-Unplugged: Episode 26: COVID-19 - Quickening of Digital Transformation - Joke to Reality
Kumaran Anandan, Gaurav Aggarwal, Gowtham Dakshinamurthy and Deepak Sharma discuss, how enterprises are challenging themselves. More offshore than onshore is more acceptable now. Is 90-10 the new norm? Are all these changes permanent or temporary? Is "Lindy Effect" going to be in operation here? Ten years ago COVID-19 would have killed the Indian IT services industry - today the technology is enabling it. The flexible work styles are creating new challenges which solved now will create enough friction in the system to prevent reverting to old ways. Customers are willing to close deals faster in the remote world - and they are happy to take standard conditions. There is a sense of urgency. CEO's are getting involved much earlier in the deal discussions, in the last three months. The urgency is driven by self-preservation as well as the need to grab the opportunities. The levelling of the playing field for on-shore and off-shore IT companies is a reality.
