✍️Evaluating a Screenplay

🙋‍♂️Do not commit to a film until the final screenplay.

🤩🥶This is primarily because the first four lines of a story can be exciting but it may not have the capacity to hold the audience for a period of 2 or 2.5 hours.

🧙‍♂️A final screenplay can only give clarity about the entire picture.

How to finalize a great script?

➡️Start with a list of your four or five best story ideas.
➡️Choose the genre of your choice
➡️Observe the marketplace.
➡️Look for existing intellectual property or something in the public domain.
➡️Think like a producer.
➡️Think of a good title.
➡️Test market your ideas.
➡️Develop with a producer.
➡️Learn to recognize genuine enthusiasm in others.
➡️Follow your passion.

What is Storytelling?
Storytelling is an individual form of expression.
Everybody has a different way of telling his or her story.
A few people want to make thrillers or dramas while others want to make horror films.
If you get it right on paper, then, the chances are very less that you will get it wrong in some other form.

1️⃣Watching the film on the big screen gives a clear perspective about sound, sync, foley, BGM, mixing, VFX, coloring, and editing.

2️⃣A theatre will play the sound at 6 or 6.5 and would not risk their audio equipment. Therefore, the idea is to mix the sound such that 6.5 sounds like a seven in the theatre.

3️⃣Even the color grade of the movie may look different due to different projectors used in theatres.

4️⃣At the studio, the color correction takes place under ideal conditions. But, it may look drastically different in a theatre. It can cause disappointment to you as a director.

5️⃣A smart cinematographer usually does not put all his fantasies into the film because he knows that half of the film would not be playing exactly as he planned.

6️⃣You have to arrive at a neutral grade to know something that will go with great and not so great projectors.

7️⃣When everything looks fine, then, you get down to make a DCP or the final print format of the film for the theatres.

Color Correction

Digital intermediate (DI) where color correction of a film takes place.
A colorist corrects the film color and gives it the necessary shade.
You must have seen film has only a sepia tone or a blue shade because the film color corrected as per the sensibilities of the colorist and the Director.

Working on Reels
The films divided into various parts around 18 to 20 minutes duration
Because a single timeline is very heavy to work for a BGM artist or an editor.
In one timeline if a sound guy shifts something, then it will shift the entire timeline and will be complicated to fix it.
So it is best to work with reels so make corrections to a particular reel if any such need arises.

Sound Mixing

A sound mixer compiles the background music, the sound effects, and the dialogues in the correct proportion.

The number of days requires for shooting depends on various factors of screenplay i.e
Location🏚🏘🏡
Weather🏖🏝🏜
Actors availability🎭
Budget any many more...💰

If the scenes are heavy, then, you can shoot around fewer scenes a day.
If the scenes are light, then, you can shoot for maximum scenes in a day.

When you go to a particular location, you would want to complete all the scenes that can be shot at that place. This model saves a lot of production cost.

Actors should be well prepared for their character by memorizing the dialogue to complete the scene on time because every additional day is going to cost you a lot of money.

A Chief Assistant director stays in direct contact with the director and other ADs work under the Chief AD.

3-4 assistant directors working on the film.
One will just be in charge of giving the Clap
One to manage the schedule for actors.
Two ADs to manage the crowd.

Editor who edits the film according to the screenplay.
VFX team to add special effects in the film

The music director composes songs and BGM for the films and Lyricists writes the song’s lyrics.

A sound recordist is required if the film is shot with sync sound.

Get Choreographer on board and give him enough days to choreograph the songs and update the cast about the dance steps.

The line producer decides the number of days required to shoot the film and also estimate the approximate budget of the film.

Production designers/ art directors decide the essential props, the kind of set, and the look required for scenes.

A cinematographer/DOP shoots the film translate the director’s vision into a cinematic experience.

The casting director auditions every character according to the screenplay.

A costume designer decides the kind of costumes characters are wearing according to the screenplay....................................................
