When you have a dream that you can’t let go of, trust your instincts and pursue it. But remember: Real dreams take work, they take patience, and sometimes they require you to dig down very deep. Be sure you’re willing to do that.” ~ Harvey Mackay

Filled to the brim with fun, frolic and laughter, Kenny D. Basumatary’s Ki Kowa, Dosti..!! is a joyride and an out-and-out entertainer. The plot follows a group of friends who are enroute a wacky, roller-coaster journey called Life, filled with unexpected twists and turns. Along the way, they encounter a host of zany characters and hilarious situations, all of which are sure to leave the audience in splits. Laughter oozes from every scene and doesn’t stop as the situational comedy in the film is totally relatable where many of us have gone through similar situations in real life - be it the omnipresent rift between fish – lovers and mutton, chicken lovers or the endless debates between heavy and light drinkers, for that matter.

The film’s rib-tickling humour blended seamlessly with ample garnishings of Martial Arts, carries the trademark style of its director Kenny D. Basumatary.

Overall, if you are looking for a good laugh and a fun time with friends, this is the movie for you. With its endless use of puns, catchy one-liners and non-stop laughter, you're sure to have a blast from the beginning to the end. So, grab some popcorn, settle in, and get ready for an edge-of-the-seat comic escapade.

Monica, O my Darling.

Huma Qureshi is definitely the darling of this neo-noir crime comedy thriller film by Vasant Bala which is an ode to the Indian filmmaking style of the 60s and 70s. As Monica, she has absolutely nailed the character to perfection, and can be considered one of her finest works. Her partner in crime here is Rajkummar Rao as Jayant Arkhedkar, an engineer who works in the same company and complements each other throughout.

The dice that Monica rolls, set off the ‘game of murder’ and mysteries where every character involved becomes a player and tries to save their skin and nothing is simple or morally correct in the world where Monica is operating. The game takes a sinister route when things go out of hand.

Sikandar Kher is delightful and devious as Nishikant Adhikari. Radhika Apte is vivacious as ACP Vijayashanti Naidu who heads the investigation of the murder mystery. Both the characters had their share of quirkiness and managed to get a laugh from dark situations. Though their screen time was comparatively small they have a massive impact on the narrative.

The writing and editing are suave and very tight with every moment gripping and demanding your attention. Atanu Mukherjee deserves accolades for the nifty editing. The film is blessed with smart cinematography by Swapnil S Sonawane who captures the mood splendidly.

The love that Vasan Bala, the Director, has for the Bollywood of yesteryears outpours in every scene. The film is shot with such meticulous design that it keeps you hooked-on throughout. The references and the clues of various films, film personalities and characters that he has scattered in the narrative adds to the viewing experience.
The background music of the original soundtrack and music recreated with a retro feel stands out and gives a tremendous viewing experience, credit goes to Achint Thakkar. Also not to forget singers Anupama Chakraborty Shrivastava whose effortless singing created the aura of the 70s from the word go.

Tezor Tukura, directed by and produced by , is a fantasy horror short-film. Chinmoy Barma unfolds the narrative in the form of puppetry.
The story deals with occultism and superstitions prevalent in rural Assam with a tinge of horror and folk fusion to make the occurrences ominous and spooky.

The film begins with sinister chantings by an old lady who helps a baby be delivered to a group of men in a secluded place through her occult powers. This sets the pace and mood for the rest of the film. All the elements like the background music, the voice and the set design come together to create a promising outset of an intriguing plot. The story sees a 30 years leap and now we find the old lady bedridden and in an old house with a young maid. She is requested to do one last favor for a man from her past.

What unfolds next gives the meaning and essence to the title Tezor Tukura which shows the world does keep an account of ‘Paap’ & ‘Punya’. The fate of ‘karma’ continues in the world with astute precision. The USP of Chinmoy Barma as a director has been to integrate folklore and modern story-telling with folk art as a primary base. Here the form of Art happens to be string puppetry which was once an integral part of the socio-cultural life in Assam. It was often used to depict stories from the epics in an entertaining way.

The film has got impressive and powerful voiceover. The background music by Nazneen Ullah and Mandeep Taro has some eerie moments that haunt the audience throughout the film. The puppet

play is convincing and tells the requisite story with conviction, which is done by Chinmoy & Hirak. The change in plot is showcased with seamless transitions.

Another striking marvel happens to be the set design, which is done by Himakshi Barmah, Nakhyatra Baruah, Hirak Jyoti Kalita, Chinmoy Barma, Upam Das & Abhinab Nath which transports the audience to the rare and spooky world of Tezor Tukura. Upam Mapu is behind the camera and also takes care of colouring, VFX and editing. Dialogues are by Poree Das who has also worked on the screenplay along with Chinmoy Barma.

How far is an artist ready to push himself to create that masterpiece?

In the vast sea of Language and its understanding, people often come up with their own preferred connotations and denotations of the same word. For some Art is just a hobby. Whereas for some it is the expression of human emotions and not surprisingly, it is the very purpose of Life for many others.

The short film Sobi is about one such person whose purpose in life is contributing to the field of Art in a big way.

would like to thank the Department of Mass Communication, Assam Don Bosco University for inviting our creative head Mr. Prakash Jyoti Pradhan as the resource person for a day-long workshop on “Filmmaking and Natural Light”.
It was great interacting with the young minds on cinema and appreciating cinema. The session dealt with filmmaking and the use of natural light for cinematography.
The students took an active part in the session and it was enriching on both parts.

The workshop also dealt with film appreciation and the use of cinema as a medium of expression and building a habit of consuming the right kind of content. A special emphasis was given to Assamese cinema.

‘Film Appreciation is a humble attempt to make you aware of the potential of cinema and empower the artist and audience aiming towards a more enriching experience.

We at Yoreh Studios believe Film Appreciation finds a space in the academic world to bring about a positive change in more meaningful consumption.

We look forward to interactions of these kinds happening more often.

‘Far from the madding crowd’ of the towns and cities, rustic life seems peaceful and serene. Atleast that’s what we assume it to be. However, what we fail to see is that sometimes peace comes at the cost of lack of aspirations and broken dreams. Well, life in the villages has its own demons to conquer. Boomba Ride directed by Biswajeet Bora is about one such journey of young Boomba who goes through a journey to find his urge and motivation to study and what it means to him.

Film : Boomba Ride
Directed by Biswajeet Bora
Produced by Luit kumar Barman, Biswajeet Bora, Binod Lal Das, Koushik Hazarika.
