Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away At 92; India Mourns; Mortal Remains To Be Taken To Shivaji Park
The veteran singer was being treated for Covid-19 and pneumonia symptoms for over a month. She was 92. The singer, called the Nightingale of India, was admitted to the hospital in January with Covid-19 and pneumonia.
Lata Mangeshkar recorded her first Hindi song called “Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu” for the Marathi feature Gajaabhaau, which had released in 1943. Later, she went on to collaborate with some of the most popular names of the Hindi music industry, including the likes of Anil Biswas, Shankar Jaikishan, Naushad Ali and SD Burman among others.
She has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan as well as several National and Filmfare Awards.

DOCTORS REMOVE 6-KG TUMOUR FROM 60-YEAR-OLD MAN'S ABDOMEN IN BIRPARA
Doctors at the Dooars Nursing home, a private hospital in Birpara have saved the life of a 60-year-old man by successfully removing a 6 kilogram tumour from his abdomen.
Rupan Munda, who is a resident of Bharnobari tea estate near Hasimara was admitted to the hospital following abdominal swelling and pain. He has been suffering from pain for the past 20 years as his stomach visibly increased in size.
Dr. Palash Das (MS Gynae) of Dinhata Sadar District Hospital and Dr. Abhinav Chakraborty (MS Gynae) Mathabhanga Sadar District Hospital performed the operation on 27th january 2022 and successfully removed the tumor from patient's body.
Dr. Abhinav said, "it is for the first time that such operation was done in Birpara area. The patient was suffering from long time and now he (patient) is recovering well."
Dr. Palash said, " The speciman has been sent for histopathalogical examinationand we have not found any cancerous growth in it".

AMAR JAWAN JYOTI AT INDIA GATE MERGED WITH NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL FLAME
The Amar Jawan Jyoti was merged with the eternal flame at the National War Memorial, while an imposing statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is set to occupy its famed canopy in the historic complex that turned a page days ahead of Republic Day.
The Amar Jawan Jyoti was built after India's victory against Pakistan in the 1971 war as a memorial for Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice and was inaugurated by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi on January 26, 1972.
The National War Memorial was built in memory of soldiers and unsung heroes who have laid down their lives defending the nation since Independence.
It is spread over 40 acres in the India Gate complex behind the canopy and is dedicated to soldiers killed during the Indo-China War in 1962, Indo-Pak wars in 1947, 1965 and 1971, Indian Peace Keeping Force Operations in Sri Lanka and in the Kargil conflict in 1999, and also those in the UN peacekeeping missions.

Grand Netaji Statue At India Gate, Says PM. Hologram To Fill Spot
A statue of freedom icon Subhash Chandra Bose will be installed at India Gate in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared today in tweets. Until the statue is ready, a hologram of the Subhash Chandra Bose, or Netaji, will be put up at the spot, PM Modi said, sharing an image.
The Netaji statue will be 28 feet by 6 feet and will stand at the spot that once featured a statue of England's King George V. That statue was removed and shifted in 1968.
"At a time when the entire nation is marking the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, I am glad to share that his grand statue, made of granite, will be installed at India Gate. This would be a symbol of India's indebtedness to him," the Prime Minister said in tweet.

OIL TANKER WITH 400 KILOGRAMS OF G***A SEIZED…ONE ARRESTED
Acting on credible input today, team SOG SPC and Officers of Ambari Falakata Out Post, P.S. NJP intercepted one Oil Tanker at Bandhunagar on NH 31D.
On search of the said Oil Tanker observing the formalities laid down under the NDPS Act 40 packets of G***a weighing 400 kilograms were recovered/seized from the said vehicle which was kept concealed in the compartment of the tank.
The illegal consignment was being transported from Assam to Bihar in the Oil Tanker being driven by one Bikash Ray of Sitalpur, Bihar.
The accused driver has been arrested and a specific case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused driver and others at NJP Police Station.

The train has crashed in Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. This train accident happened in Domohani of Jalpaiguri. Many bogies of Bikaner Express (15633 (up)) coming from Patna to Guwahati got derailed. There are reports of many people getting injured in this accident. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the officials rushed to the spot.

No. WB-70/G-8845 which are meant for selling to drug addict at higher price for wrongful gain.
A specific case under section 22 (c) NDPS Act is being initiated against the accused person and he will be forwarded to SPL Judge under NDPS Act, Jalpaiguri.

THREE PERSONS ARRESTED WITH BROWN SUGAR WORTH 01 CRORE 40 LAKHS
Acting on specific intel, officers of SOG SPC and NJP PS (with lady police personnel) detained three suspects at Kamrangaguri over bridge under NJP Police Station.
The identity of the three suspects are
1. Saniur Seikh (28) of Kaliachak,
Dist. - Malda
2. Ayesha Begam (38) of Islampur,
Dist. Uttar Dinajpur and
3. Menoka Khatun (21yrs) of Biswas Coløny, Matigara Rail Gate, PS Matigara, District Darjeeling.
On search of their person, after observing proper formalities of the NDPS Act, in presence of an Executive Magistrate 700 grams of Brown Sugar valued at Rs 01 Crore 40 Lakhs (approx) was recovered from their joint possession which has been seized under proper seizure memo. All the three accused persons have been arrested and taken into custody.
They are active members of a Drug Cartel involved in illegal supply and sale of contraband drugs to the users in and around Siliguri. A case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act is being initiated at NJP PS.

Group Captain Varun Singh, lone survivor of CDS Bipin Rawat's chopper crash, succumbs to injuries
Group Captain Varun Singh, who was the lone survivor from the Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter crash that claimed the lives of India’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and others, passed away at the IAF Command Hospital here early on Wednesday.
The Mi-17V5 helicopter crash had claimed 13 of the 14 people on the same day, while Group Captain Singh was moved from Wellington’s Military Hospital to Command Hospital on December 9, after getting initial treatment in Wellington.

Professor Neena Gupta, a mathematician at the Indian Statistical Institute - ISI in Kolkata, has been awarded the 2021 DST-ICTP-IMU Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians from developing countries for her outstanding work in affine algebraic geometry and commutative algebra.
Professor Gupta is the third woman to receive the Ramanujan Prize, which was first awarded in 2005 and is administered by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) jointly with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and the International Mathematical Union (IMU).
Ramanujan Prize is given annually to an eminent Mathematician who is less than 45 years of age on 31 December of the year of the award and has conducted outstanding research in developing countries by ICTP: International Centre for Theoretical Physics , Trieste and is sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India.

A Royal Bengal tiger has been sighted in Buxa Tiger reserve after a gap of over 30 years.
The forest department officially confirms the presence of Royal Bengal tiger in BTR after a series of test and photograpic evidences captured in the trap camera installed by the Forest Department.
Parveen Kaswan, DFD of Buxa Tiger reserve said, "some pugmarks had been spotted at the BTR site recently after which trap cameras were put up. On Friday night, this picture was captured by one of these cameras. It is indeed good news."
Adding to it he said, "pugmarks of big cats were found in the BTR shows the rich and thriving biodiversity of BTR. We are not disclosing the exact location and time of capture for security reasons. We are particularly excited because such photographic evidence has been captured in Buxa after a long time".
"We plan to introduce more tigers in Buxa from Assam and are readying the prey base,” he added.

Munal Spotted After 178-yrs in Darjeeling Hills
The Satyr tragopan (Munal), a pheasant species, has been spotted at Sinchel Wildlife Sanctuary in Darjeeling after 178 years.
DFO (Darjeeling wildlife division) S. Sherpa said they had clicked three male satyr tragopans at the sanctuary, the first such photographic evidence of the species at the site since 1842.
The birds were spotted at the Sonada beat on 10 occasions between August 12 and 29, 2021. These avian omnivores are listed as “near threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Telangana: A Hyderabad man, Gattipally Shivpal becomes the first dwarf to receive a Driving license in India. 42-years-old Gattipally Shivlal is about 3 feet tall. He completed degree in 2004 & was also the first to complete the degree as a handicapped in his district.
Gattipally Shivlal said, "People used to tease me for my height and today I am nominated for The Limca book of records and many others. Many short height people are contacting me for driving training and I have decided to start a driving school next year for physically handicapped people"

THREE PERSONS ARRESTED BY DD WITH ONE AUTOMATIC PISTOL & 09 ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION
Siliguri, 02/12/21: Acting on reliable intel officers of the Detective Department (DD) of Siliguri Police Commissionerate (SPC) apprehended three persons in one Maruti Alto car near Hotel Heritage, Pradhanagar and recovered one 7.62mm automatic pistol loaded with 09 rounds of live bullets in a magazine, Rs 3 LLakhs cash nd 04 mobile phones from their joint possession.
All the three accused persons namely Rakesh Chawla (44) of Vivekanandapally, Bhaktinagar Siliguri, Amit Sharma (29) of Ashram Para, Siliguri and Mithun Barman (23) of Champasari Anchal, Pradhanagar Siliguri, have been arrested and taken into custody, and a specific case is being initiated at Pradhannagar PS under the relevant sections of the ARMS ACT.

FAKE ABDUCTION CRACKED
On 20/10/21, NJP Ps received a complaint that one Paritosh Roy of Paglaghat, Rajganj has been abducted by 3/4 persons on way near Kamrangaguri. Paritosh was an employee of one Radiant Cash Managment Services. He was carrying Rs 11,05,000/- with him which he had collected from various places.
SI Gautum Mallick and team of NJP PS swung into quick action. After thorough and meticulous investigation and tracking, it was discovered that the whole abduction was fake and sham.
SI Mallick arrested one Shyamal Roy, Asish Biswas and Sanjoy Modak, all of Rajganj who confessed that they had planned this conspiracy with Paritosh in the greed of money that Paritosh was carrying. Later, Paritosh Roy was also arrested and an amount of Rs 9,29,350/- was recovered from them. Remaining money they had disposed off.
Today OC NJP PS SI Samir Tamang returned the recovered money to their rightful owners.

Acting on source information, Rajganj PS under Jalpaiguri District Police intercepted one empty container truck bearing Regn no - UP 21 BN 0533 at about 12.05 hrs near Sariam More, on NH 31D, which was carrying NDPS substances reportedly. Huge quantity of g***a was found concealed in the cabin of driver's chamber.
In presence of Ex- magistrate (BDO Rajganj) 68 packets of G***a weighing 236.945 (02 Qtls 36 kgs 945 gms) could be recovered and arrested accused persons named Md Hossain (45), s/o Lt Fakaruddin of Saifpur Chittu, PO - Farhedi, PS - Kundarki, Dist - Muradabad, UP & Chhode Sha (56), s/o Lt Rumal Sha of Vill+PO+PS - Ujhiyani, Dist - Badaiu, U.P.
A case under proper section of law is being initiated.

All of them were returning to Jamui in a sumo car after attending a cremation, when their car collided with the truck. WHO Approves Indian-Made Covid-19 Vaccine for Emergency Use
The World Health Organization granted emergency authorization to a Covid-19 vaccine co-developed by India’s medical-research agency and local manufacturer Bharat Biotech International Ltd., ending a months-long wait that added to controversy around the homegrown shot.
The WHO approved the vaccine’s use in people aged 18 and older on a two-dose schedule with four weeks between shots, according to a statement on Wednesday. Covaxin joins a range of WHO emergency-cleared shots from AstraZeneca Plc, China’s Sinopharm Group Co. and Sinovac Biotech Ltd., Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE , Johnson & Johnson and Moderna Inc.

India Hits 1 Billion Covid Vaccine Doses Milestone
India scaled the peak of one billion (100 Crore) Covid-19 vaccine doses on Thursday, an important milestone in the world’s largest inoculation drive with more to go. The countrywide vaccination programme was launched on January 16 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of covering all of India’s 944 million adults this year. As of now 75% of them have got at least one dose and 31% have had two.
Nearly 90% of the vaccinated population has received shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine, known locally as Covishield, produced by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India. Apart from Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Russia’s Sputnik V, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have received emergency use approval in India.

A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted on a transit train in Philadelphia last week even as a number of witnesses failed to stop the incident or call police, authorities said.
The alleged r**e occurred on the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's Market-Frankford Line on Wednesday night and was a "horrendous criminal act". The public transit authority said other people on the train saw the incident and did not alert authorities.
The suspect was identified as Fiston M. Ngoy, 35, who had a preliminary arraignment last Thursday on charges of r**e, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and more, according to court documents.
Passengers on a transit train in Pennsylvania allegedly held up their phones to film the r**e of a woman by a man for more than 40 minutes, instead of stepping in to help her, authorities said.
There were fewer than a dozen people present, “but sufficient to intervene,” who recorded the incident but did not help the woman, officials said.

A rock fell from the top between Bhanjyang and Bikmat in South Sikkim crushing an ultro vehicle in Khayarbote.
Passengers inside the vehicle received serious injuries. Injured person were taken to hospital after few local drivers and others jointly rescued them.

'Vajra', a metal road taser with spikes can be used for both tasing & in hand to hand combat as well as to puncture bullet proof vehicles. The 'Trishul' can be used for tasing as well as blocking vehicles of enemy: Mohit Kumar, Chief Technology Officer, Apastron Pvt Ltd
A tasing equipment called ‘Sapper Punch’ to be worn like a protection gloves and can be used to give a blow with a current discharge to the enemy. None of the non-lethal weapons can cause deaths or any serious injuries.

Elephant carcass found in Jalpaiguri
A 10-year-old sub-adult female elephant was found dead in an agricultural field at Bhandarkura village in Khuttimari area under Dhupguri block of Jalpaiguri on Saturday morning.
The carcass was recovered by foresters and police. They are waiting for the autopsy report and suspect death due to poisoning or electrocution.
According to locals, during the past few days, a herd of wild elephants was regularly entering the Bhandarkura village from the adjoining Khuttimari forest for fodder. “On Friday night also, a herd entered the village. We suspect the elephant was its member and died owing to illness,” said Ayub Ali, a villager.
Foresters, however, are not ready to buy the theory. In north Bengal, a number of elephants have died after coming in contact with a livewire that are illegally laid around agricultural fields to prevent damaging of crops. “Also, pesticides are extensively used in brinjal cultivation. The location where the carcass was found is next to such a field,” said a forester.
