Philatelist Roshan Prasad wins Silver at AMRITPEX 2023
16.02.23, Singtam: Roshan Prasad, a popular philatelist from Sikkim wins a Silver at AMRITPEX 2023 National Philatelic Exhibition. The event was held in Delhi from 11th to 15th February 2023 and organized by The Department of Posts, Government of India in consultation with the Ministry of Culture and Philatelic Congress of India.
Prasad wins his sixth medal in the National Philatelic Exhibition on his theme ‘The story of Cricket’, a five-frame exhibit of cricket philately. Roshan Prasad was the lone participant from Sikkim at AMRIPEX 2023 and we all feel proud of his achievement said Ganesh Pradhan, President, of Sikkim Philatelic Society.
Roshan Prasad is an International philatelic medalist and also an Indian Philatelic Special Cover designer and author. Sikkim Philatelic Society also congratulates Vivek Yonzone, Secretary, ALPINE Philatelic and Numismatic Society (Darjeeling) for his silver at the same event, reads the press release.
More than 20,000 Exhibits from 500 Philatelists in both competitive and invitee class was displayed in five days event. During the five-day exhibition, a number of workshops, seminars, panel discussions and cultural events and activities for children, the release of commemorative postage stamps, the release of special covers and picture postcards were organized.

Three Sikkim Players In NE Zone Team

Three women cricketers from Sikkim have been selected to represent North East Zone in the Inter Zonal Senior Women’s One-Day Tournament, scheduled to start on 12th February.
The women players for the North East Zone was shortlisted at a meeting of selectors and office bearers of North East state cricket bodies held in Guwahati on 3rd February. The meeting had the presence of Mamon Majumdar, Member, Apex Council, BCCI, and Nabam Vivek, Zonal Convener.
Sikkim Cricket Association was represented by President Tika S***a, Honorary Secretary Rinzing Nangyal Bhutia and Selector Karma Thendup.
Leezamit Lepcha, Yudenmit Lepcha and Pranita Chettri have made the cut in 15-member squad, while Tshering Ongmu Lepcha has been named as one of the standby players. They are key players in Sikkim women’s team, and were selected in North East Zone team on the basis of their performance this season.
Limatola Ao will lead the North East Zone, while Nabam Yapu has been named her deputy.
Likewise, Sheryl Lepcha has been named the physiotherapist of North East Zone team. Sheryl is one of the most experienced sports physiotherapists in the North East and has been with Sikkim women’s team since 2018.
The North East Zone will play two matches in league stage of the tournament – against East Zone on 12th February and against North Zone on 13th February. Both matches will be played at Hyderabad.
The North East Zone is featuring in the women’s zonal tournament for the first time.
The North East Zone team is a combined team of players from six North East states, viz., Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.

03.02.23 - At a weekly meeting of the Sikkim Government Retired Employee Welfare Association, Singtam Branch, today in its office at Mandi Bazaar, Singtam, the following resolutions were adopted.
1. The SGREWA, Singtam Branch condemns the verdict referring to Sikkimey Nepalese as "foreigners" and wiping out our identity, the word 'Sikkimey'.
2. SGREWA Singtam wholeheartedly supports the efforts of JAC in working towards the re-tarnishing of the identity of the Nepali community as a foreigner.

2nd Singtam Badminton Tournament ends; Nepal and Namchi wins two titles each
30.01.23, Singtam: Shuttler duo Ramesh Bhattachan and Bishnu Lal Shrestha from Nepal defeated the Darjeeling duo of Dr. Probin Mokhtan and Nirkumar Rana in an exciting mixed doubles 60 plus final of the 2nd Singtam Open Badminton Tournament 2023 held at Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam. The 60-plus final was declared the most exciting match of the day.
The final day guests included Dr. MK Sharma, Health Minister and Area MLA, LB Das, UD&HD Minister, Rohit Raj Maharaj, Advisor to CM, SB Gurung, Singtam SHO, members of Singtam Nagar Panchayat, families of Nirmala Devi Foundation and others.
Khush Gurung and MB Rana, the other Nepal shuttlers in the finals of 45+ had a memorable win over the Assamese duo of Pranab Das and Batab Neog. In an exhibition match held between the teams of Dr. MK Sharma and LB Das, the former won the match.
In the other six categories final played on the last day of the tournament, Allen Rongkup and Santanu Bose (MBC) won both their 35+ mixed doubles and 40+ mixed doubles titles defeating Hemant Rai and Arjun Tamang (BAJ) & Prasanjit Shah and Mahesh Chettri (MBC) respectively.
The much-awaited Men’s Doubles finals saw the teams of the Badminton Association of Namchi facing each other. The duo of Nim Tenzing Sherpa and Kusal Tamang defeated Abhishek Pradhan and Prasan Chettri. Nim Tenzing Sherpa took home the second prized Mixed Doubles title with Selina Rai after beating Kusal Lama and Sarika Rai (both representing BAN).
In the Women’s Doubles, the team of Anisha Rai and Sarika Rai defeated Indu Rana and Surekha Rai. Both teams represented the Badminton Association of Namchi. In the 50+ Men’s Doubles final, the Assamese pair of Pranab Das and Batab Neog defeated Bhanu Pradhan and RK Gajmer, opponents from Jorethang.

Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated the 74th Republic Day at Badminton Court, Shantinagar, Singtam. Mrs Keemti Rai, Assistant Commissioner, Commercial Tax Department, Rangpo, the Chief Guest of the day unfurled the tricolour flag.

This event also saw a first as a photo frame of Bharat Mata was offered flowers after the national anthem by all the guests. The highlight of the day was the launch of SGSS’s annual calendar and felicitation program. Free eye camp held at Singtam

23.12.22, Singtam: Free Eye Medical Camp was organized by Pipal Dara Social Organisation, Singtam in collaboration with Asha Foundation, Kalimpong at Community Hall, Singtam. The camp was held between 10 am to 7.30 pm, and more than 200 individuals were given free medical treatment. The treatments included Free Eye Testing & checks, Free Medicines, Free Micro Surgery, two years of free medicines & free services and 60% discount on spectacles.

The eye camp had participants from far-flung places like Siliguri, Rongli, Rhenock, Gangtok, Sang, Martam, Namthang, Khamdong, Mamring and all the nearby places of Singtam.

Speaking on the occasion, Feroj Lohagun, General Secretary of PDSO stated that our organization is dedicated to the betterment and upliftment of society. We want to motivate the younger generation and make our society strong. Bhanu Udhayan Sanrakshan Samiti formed at Singtam

In the presence of different representatives of Singtam, Bhanu Udhyan Sanrakshan Samiti, a committee was formed on December 12, 2020. The Committee with the support and consultation of different government bodies would maintain and safe guard the popular Bhanu Park of Singtam.
Rohit Raj Maharaj, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sikkim presided over the meeting held at the premises of Bhanu Udhyan. Executive members of the newly formed committee were also nominated on the day. Sikkim to participate in Himalayan Orange Tourism Festival at Kolkata

36 members team from Sikkim is all set to participate in 5th Himalayan Orange Tourism Festival to be held at Kolkata city from 9th to 11th December.

Team Sikkim comprises of different stakeholders from new village tourist destinations viz. Parakha, Rinchenpong, Namthang and Assam Lingzey. Marketing representatives from new hotels, resorts, travel agents, representatives from Temi Tea Estate, Sikkim Supreme, Nature Gift , Namchi Candles, Bamboo Handicraft Designer and Self Help Group from Namchi will also participate in the festival.

Gurung dancers from Parakha, East Sikkim will perform traditional Gurung community dance and top Violinist Priyanka Pradhan from Khamdong, East Sikkim will perform in the centre stage of the festival.

Sikkimese actor in bollywood flick

Shrada Chettri from Sakhu, Westpendam Constituency is picked up for Bollywood film "Sabri Ka Mohan" by Director Akashaditya at Chhattisgarh and her shooting already started.

The film is based on the 1940s story during India freedom of struggle. Suhela Kapoor , Amit Rastogi, Rajpal Yadav can be seen in this movie along with Shrada Chettri.

Shrada is currently doing her Master's in Mass Communication from IKSVV Khairagarh University of Arts, Chhattisgarh. She had done her schooling at Central Pendam Senior Secondary School, a Diploma in Acting from the National School of Drama, Gangtok, and a Bachelor's in Mass Communication from North Bengal University, Siliguri, West Bengal.

Bermiok, Nov. 23: (IPR):
The distribution of milch cows under the project 'Grant in Aid' to the backward Limboo community, Sikkim for the financial year 2021-22 under North East Council (NEC) held at Bermiok under Gyalshing district, today. The programme was organised by the office of the District Collector (DC) Gyalshing in coordination with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Gyalshing.

The Minister, AH&VS-cum-Area MLA of Gyalshing Bermiok constituency, Shri Lok Nath Sharma graced the distribution programme as the chief guest in special presence of District Collector, Gyalshing, Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, Chairman Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producer's Union Shri Yam Kumar Mishra, Zilla Panchayat Bermiok Berthang (T) Shri Khusendra Gurung, Panchayats from Bermiok Berthang Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) and Martam GPU, Additional Director AH&VS Gyalshing Dr. Narad M. Cintury, officials and beneficiaries.

Minister Sharma distributed a total of twenty five cow of Jersey and HF cross breed to the beneficiaries from Limboo community. Each of these twenty five beneficiaries were also handed over mineral supplements for the overall well being of cattle. The selection of cow was justifiably done through lucky draw.

Minister Sharma, in his address, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to transform the benefit of a milch cow into a sustainable source of livelihood. He urged every beneficiary to provide quality care and healthy management practice to take optimum benefits in terms of enhancing productivity and generating income.

He also drew lights on the role and responsibilities of panchayats at GPU level and urged them to select truly deserving beneficiaries and fulfill the objectives of governmental schemes and programmes.

He also informed that a pig distribution programme will be organised for Martam and Prchrek/Hee Patal GPUs at the end of this month through Animal Husbandry Deptt. wherein thirty households will be benefited from each GPU.

He also touched upon governmental schemes and programmes initiated by the state government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Shri P.S Tamang (Golay).

District Collector, Ms. Yishey D. Yongda highlighted the objectives of the distribution of milch cows and informed that a total of two hundred and fifty (250) lactating cows will be distributed within Gyalshing district under NEC. She further informed that the distribution would be taken up constituency wise and called upon all the beneficiaries to encash into the opportunity of dairy farming as a means of livelihood being provided by the government. The DC also added that besides physical acclimatisation the animals would be facing psychological stress and anxiety hence the farmers must keep a close watch on the cows till they settle down in new surroundings.

Earlier, the Additional Director AH&VS, Dr. Narad M. Cintury proposed welcome address while the Dy. Director Dr. Rinchen C. Bhutia threw light on technical aspects and do's and don'ts of rearing and management of milch cow.
