One such role that he took up was Kohinoor. Kohinoor cast Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari to play a prince and princess of different kingdoms and was full of sword fights, songs and dances. This film is also notable for some rare comical and funny scenes by Meena Kumari, who is otherwise known as the tragedy queen. Its tone was light, and it lacked the intense characterizations of their earlier films. It was a major hit of the year.
The film included the melodic songs "Madhuban mein Radhika Nache Re" and "Do Sitaron Ka Zameen Par Hai Milan Aaj Ki Raat."
The well-acclaimed soundtrack for the movie was composed by Naushad and lyrics were penned by Shakeel Badayuni. Rockstar is a 2011 Indian Hindi-language musical romantic drama film directed by Imtiaz Ali, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri with music composed by A. R. Rahman. The film also stars Moufid Aziz, Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra, Shernaz Patel, Kumud Mishra in supporting roles, and also Shammi Kapoor, who makes his last silver-screen appearance. The film was produced by Eros International Ltd. along with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd.
The film Rockstar was shot in reverse - the climax was shot first, and then the rest of the film was shot. There was a very simple reason for this - the crew of Rockstar didn't want to break off the continuity of Ranbir Kapoor's hair. At the end of the movie, the star is seen sporting long hair, and at the beginning of the film, Ranbir's character is seen in short hair. Reportedly, the crew didn't want Ranbir to wear a wig but style his hair to make it all look natural.
Ranbir Kapoor learnt to play the guitar for Rockstar. He also made sure that he was present in A. R. Rahman's studio for the recording of each and every song of the film so that he could know the songs better.

Chaudhvin Ka Chand is a 1960 Hindi-language feature film directed by Mohammed Sadiq. This film was a box-office hit, one of the top-grossing films of 1960 production of Guru Dutt, the film centers on a love triangle between Guru Dutt, Rehman, and Waheeda Rehman, and features music by Ravi. Farida Jalal makes a guest appearance in the film, her debut. After the disastrous box office performance of Kaagaz Ke Phool, this was a highly commercially successful comeback film for Guru Dutt, which saved Guru Dutt's production studio from ruins.
Guru Dutt's music composer of earlier films, S. D. Burman, had warned him not to make Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959 film), which resembled his own life. When Guru Dutt insisted on making the film S.D Burman said that would be his last film with Guru Dutt. Hence, this film's music composing was offered to composer Ravi and was critically acclaimed, and the lyrics by his all-time favorite Shakeel Badayuni. Guru Dutt's creative choice was to have the title track in color while the rest of the film was in black and white. The title song, sung by Mohammed Rafi, became an evergreen hit and is still popular among the masses.

Lagaan is a 2001 Indian Hindi-language epic musical sports film inspired by a B.R. Chopra's Naya Daur (1957) starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala.
Lagaan was written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan.
Aamir Khan stars along with debutant Gracy Singh, with British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne in supporting roles.
Director Ashutosh Gowariker has stated that it was almost impossible to make Lagaan. Gowariker went to Aamir, who agreed to participate after hearing the detailed script. Aamir had initially rejected the idea of a "sporty" film but was "himself in tears" upon hearing the full dialogued script.
Even after securing Khan, Ashutosh had trouble finding a producer. Producers who showed interest in the script wanted budget cuts as well as script modifications. Eventually, Aamir agreed to Ashutosh's suggestion that he would produce the film. Aamir corroborated this by saying that the faith he had in Ashutosh, the story and script of the film, and the opportunity of starting his own production company inspired him to produce Lagaan. He also said that by being a producer himself, he was able to give greater creative freedom to Ashutosh.
Lagaan released on 15 June 2001, clashing with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. Lagaan received widespread critical acclaim and awards at international film festivals and many Indian film awards. It became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988).

K. Asif's magnum opus has gained a cult status over the years. Considered to be one of the most iconic and landmark films in the history of Hindi cinema, Mughal-E-Azam set the standards high. Starring Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, and Prithviraj Kapoor, this epic is known for its direction, music, sets, costumes, and lead pair: Madhubala and Dilip Kumar. Sweeping all major awards, Mughal -E-Azam revolves around the story of Mughal Emperor Salim and his love for a court dancer - Anarkali, and how their romance angers Salim's father, Akbar.
The film's conception began in 1944, but it took many years before the film was actually shot. It went through a series of changes. Firstly, the financier had backed out. Secondly, the cast went through several changes, and the cost of production for one song was reportedly more than the entire budget of other films that were made at that time. It was finally released in 1960 and is said to have broken all records at the box office.

Bhakta Vidur is a 1921 silent Indian film directed by Kanjibhai Rathod and made under the Kohinoor Film Company banner.
Bhakta Vidur became the first film to be banned in India. The movie came just after the Rowlatt Act was passed in India.
The character of Vidura was reportedly portrayed imitating Mahatma Gandhi, his personality. There were scenes in the film where Vidura appeared like Gandhi wearing a Gandhi cap, Khaddar, etc. Many more contemporary political events of India were shown as reference in the movie. As a result, the film was restricted, as the censor board concluded– "We know what you are doing, it is not Vidur, it is Gandhiji, we won't allow it."
The film was banned in Madras, Karachi, and some other provinces.

25/09/2020

Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), India's first film in the Cinemascope format, has been considered Guru Dutt's finest and most autobiographical film by many. Most old-timers and historians generally felt that the film was a cinematic masterpiece that, tragically, went over the audience's heads and sank like the Titanic, so to say in its time.
Technically, the film is perhaps Guru Dutt's best-crafted film. The camerawork, with its poetic use of light and shadows, is magical. Rarely has the Indian screen seen better Black & White cinematography. The frames have been beautifully composed, keeping in mind the Cinemascope format.
It was also Guru Dutt's last film as a director.
S. D. Burman composed the film's music and the lyrics were written by Kaifi Azmi and Shailendra (for one song "Hum Tum Jise Kehta Hain"), giving hits such as "Waqt ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam", sung by Geeta Dutt. Many consider this film to be much ahead of its time.

Bimal Roy's middle-of-the-road Sujata is a film with a message, but it is not a dire dirge. It weaves its plea for disregarding caste differences into a song-and-romance tapestry.
Released in 1959, the film stars Sunil Dutt and Nutan, supported by Sulochana, Lalita Pawar, and Shashikala. It is based on a Bengali short story of the same name by writer Subodh Ghosh. The music is by S. D. Burman and the lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It was entered into the 1960 Cannes Film Festival.
Sujata was made during the time when S.D Burman was not recording with Lata Mangeshkar. This boosted Asha Bhosle's career tremendously, especially since Burman let Asha render the heroine's song (Kaali ghata chhaye), while Geeta Dutt was given the mother's lullaby 'Hawa Dheere Aana.'
Burman's playback to 'Sun mere bandhu re' marked his first success as a singer.
With Sujata and Anadi released in 1959, Nutan was at the peak of her career. Within three months of Sujata's release, she was officially engaged to Lieutenant Commander Rajnish Bahl. She was married before the end of the year. Despite the accolades she got for Sujata (including the Best Actress award), Nutan decided to take a hiatus from work.
Nutan and Sunil Dutt went on to form a popular pair, reteaming in the Sixties for three more successful films -- Khandaan, Meherban, and Milan.
