Every city boasts its own unique history, culture, people, and culinary delights. When I had the opportunity to visit in April, I was regaled with tales of the locals' hospitality and their penchant for going the extra mile to ensure visitors' comfort. I was intrigued by the glowing praises, wondering why people described it as "just another city." However, upon arriving in Belagavi, I found that it exceeded all expectations. Now, based on my own experience, I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone include this charming city on their travel itinerary, whether for leisure or business – it truly belongs on your bucket list.
In the month of April, Meshmix Media collaborated with Laghu Udyog Bharti – Chapter to delve into Belagavi's manufacturing ecosystem. Over the course of three days, I had the privilege of interviewing business leaders from various industries, including Aerospace, Automotive, Forging, Casting, Sheet Metal, all of whom are members of Laghu Udyog Bharti – Karnataka.

A discussion on ‘How India’s can realize its true potential.’

By all accounts, India’s top strengths that make it an attractive hub for aerospace industry for global OEMs are: Strong local talent, a large commercial market, and high defence spending. Then there is another that has become a strong draw in recent years: a vast supplier ecosystem built on the rich legacy of India’s thriving automotive and space technology industries.

The last one year and a half, however, has hit the aerospace industry – both global and Indian – hard. The pandemic has ended more than a decade of uninterrupted growth in 2020. Reports estimate that the size of the global aerospace industry fell from $342.4 billion in 2019 to $296 billion in 2020 at a rate of -14 percent.

On our part, India’s industry stakeholders have braved these headwinds in an exemplary way: In a recent interview with , a JV between Rolls-Royce and HAL, the company CEO shared with our magazine how it developed unique strengths and solutions during the pandemic to ramp up its offerings and support for its customers.

Panel: How India Can Move Up the GVC

Presently, about 70% of international trade today involves global value chains (GVCs). Surveys show that a country's participation in GVCs creates more and better jobs, accelerates economic growth and reduces poverty, and manufacturing is a key enabler for GVC integration. The Economic Survey 2019-20 dedicated a chapter (Chapter 5, Volume I) to how India can increase its participation in global value chains (GVC) through exports of network products. Typically, these products are made by leading multinationals within their ‘producer driven’ global production networks. Examples of such network products are , , and , equipment and others. The Survey added that the exports of network products could provide the incremental value add in the to help make India a $5 trillion economy by 2025. Clearly, Covid-19 may have made that aim even tougher, but India's increased participation in GVC is a goal worth striving for.

The panel will discuss the way forward for exploring and enabling new opportunities for GVC integration. It will look at the important drivers like policy reforms, skill development, innovation, technologies and logistics and infrastructure.
