*Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian Poonch Organizes Awareness Program on E-Waste Management*

*Sawjian, June 7, 2024* — Government Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian, Poonch, organized an awareness program on E-Waste Management under the guidance of Principal Anwar Khan. This event was part of a week-long series of summer camp activities directed by the Director of School Education Jammu and the Chief Education Officer Poonch.

Adil Hamid Qureshi, a teacher at the school, provided a detailed explanation of e-waste, its hazards, and methods for its management and minimization. His presentation, supported by a PowerPoint slideshow, effectively conveyed the crucial aspects of e-waste management to the attendees.

The program was attended by 175 students and 22 staff members. In his address, Principal Anwar Khan defined electronic waste (e-waste) as a broad term encompassing all types of old, end-of-life, or discarded electrical and electronic equipment, including household appliances, office information and communication equipment, entertainment and consumer electronics, lighting equipment, and electric and electronic tools.

Other speakers at the event included Mohd Shafi, Jagandeep Singh, Zakki ur Rehman, and Jyoti Jamwal, who each contributed insights on the topic. The program concluded with a question-and-answer session, addressing the students' queries and fostering a deeper understanding of e-waste management.

This initiative reflects the school's ongoing commitment to environmental education and sustainable practices.

*Poonch, June 6, 2024* — Continuing the celebration of World Environment Day, Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian, Poonch, under the guidance and supervision of Principal Anwar Khan, organized a seminar on Healthy Eating Habits and Healthy Lifestyle. The seminar took place in the school's multipurpose hall.

Six students, including Nayeema Bhat, Tania Sajjad, Afreen Kouser, and Mariya, spoke on the topic, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet, the detrimental effects of junk food, and the significance of physical activity and exercise. Imran Khan, a teacher at the school, conducted the proceedings and underscored the importance of healthy food habits.

Jaipal Singh, the key speaker and teacher, urged the audience to develop healthy lifestyle and eating habits. Other notable speakers included Mohd Shafi, Senior Lecturer, Parvez Khan, Lecturer in Physical Education, and Gurvinder Singh.

GDC SURANKOTE INITIATES ECO-CONSCIOUS WORKSHOP ON THE EVE OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY: FOCUS ON LAND RESTORATION AND DROUGHT RESILIENCE

SURANKOTE

On the eve of World Environment Day, the NSS unit of GDC Surankote in collaboration with the Department of Zoology concluded its five-day eco-conscious workshop with a significant field visit to Dana-Shahsatar. This initiative was designed to evaluate the impact of deforestation on soil erosion highlighting the critical need for environmental conservation.

The field visit was flagged off by the Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rani Mughal who emphasized the importance of practical learning experiences in environmental education. A diverse group of students from various semesters eagerly participated in the tour gaining valuable insights into the real-world consequences of deforestation. The students were guided by a team of distinguished faculty members, including Prof. Fateh Mohammad Abbasi, HOD Zoology, Prof. Fatima NSS Program Officer, Prof. Mohammad Jahangir HOD Urdu and Prof. Adnan Ali Shah HOD English, Dr. Basharat Ali lecture Botany.

On the eve, Professor Fateh Mohammad Abassi highlighted the critical role of plants in mitigating soil erosion. He also emphasized the importance of various plant species in combating different types of environmental pollution and discussed the impact of humans on altering the environment as well as the local flora and fauna.

During the visit, the primary objective was to conduct a thorough assessment of how deforestation contributes to soil erosion in the Dana-Shahsatar area. This hands-on training allowed students to observe the direct effects of human activities on the environment.

**Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian Celebrates World Environment Day with Cleanliness Drive at Tourist Destinations**

*Sawjian, Poonch, June 5, 2024* — Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian celebrated World Environment Day in a unique and impactful manner by organizing a Cleanliness Drive at the tourist destinations Nehrian and Rangawar in the border area of Sawjian, Poonch. Under the guidance and supervision of Principal Anwar Khan, 160 students and 22 staff members participated in the drive, covering a two-kilometer area.

The event not only focused on cleaning but also on raising awareness about the importance and relevance of World Environment Day. The participants interacted with locals, informing them about environmental conservation. To further their efforts, the school installed green and blue dustbins at both tourist destinations and pasted posters to educate tourists about maintaining cleanliness.

In addition to the cleanup, the garbage collected was disposed of scientifically by digging a pit, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Principal Anwar Khan highlighted that this event marks the beginning of a series of week-long activities planned by the school to promote environmental awareness and action.

The Rajouri- Thanna Mandi road which is under construction from Last more than four years is in pathetic and deplorable condition especially within the municipal limits of town. Speaking to media several prominent locals including Haji Maqbool Raina, Shokat Shawl, Shamim Ahmed Mughal and several others told that we have appealed the administration as well as GREF authorities several times but all in vain due to the negligent and careless attitude of both administration as well as GREF authorities.
Large Scale Huge Potholes are seen in the middle of the road due to which the locals are suffering badly as the vehicles are damaged on regular basis due to worst condition of the road and huge losses have already occurred due to the negligence of administration

The Locals have demanded that if the road is not made suitable for vehicles within a week's time we will start a massive protest and local administration will be solely responsible for that
