They did it on one hand. They did it on stilts. And they did it on a quad bike. No matter the circumstances, record breakers got the job done! That was Guinness World Records Day. People across the planet rose to the challenge in different ways.

“COVID” is now part of the Scrabble dictionary. “Unmute” also joined the list. This is likely due to the rise of online meetings students and workers had during the COVID-19 pandemic. Muting and unmuting your computer mic was key! Other internet-inspired words, such as “unfollow,” joined the dictionary too.

It has been an emotional, unprecedented time for tennis. Serena Williams, 40, and Roger Federer, 41, have both announced their plans to retire leaving the tennis world without two iconic competitors who were among the best the sport has ever seen!
The sport is losing the two of the greatest players who more than anyone else defined, then redefined, then redefined again and again, what was possible on grass, clay and hardcourt in the 21st century.

Serena Williams and Roger Federer changed tennis forever. So will their retirements!

What is it about marshmallows? Those soft, fluffy, pillows of delight. Even better when they’re introduced to a flame. If you haven’t sat round a campfire, toasting marshmallows on a stick, have you ever truly lived? The gooey centre of a freshly toasted mallow tastes something like true love to us. And don’t even get us started on s’mores!

There’s much more to marshmallows than meets the eye. For starters, they’re not a modern invention at all. In fact, they’ve been around for over 4,000 years! Nobody is sure when marshmallows were invented, but Ancient Egyptians may have mixed sap and root from the mallow flower, for sore throats.

Ukraine’s people have been fighting an illegal war for the past six months. No one knows how much longer they will have to keep fighting. "Russia's war in Ukraine could go on for a very long time” admitted Ukrainian expert Orysia Kulick. "We don't know how long Russia can keep going” she explained from Canada. But the professor of European history said that there was at least one benefit of the war.
"Ukraine has been in the shadow of Russia for a long time. The world finally
sees Ukraine."

An anonymous England based graffiti street artist - that is Banksy for you! Banksy is like a superhero who makes his graffiti in public places like buildings and train stations, often with an underlying message - and then, he disappears!

👉 Once a couple in Bristol had one of Banksy’s murals (art on wall) on one of its walls. Instead of selling the house, they decided to sell the mural and received twice the amount they would have by just selling the house. They gave away the house free with the mural!

👉 Justin Bieber has Banksy’s most famous artwork – ‘Girl with Balloon’ tattooed on his arm!

Are you left-handed? If so, only about one out of every 10 people on Earth are just like you!

About 2,000 years ago, Julius Caesar led the Roman Empire with his left hand. He was the most powerful person in the world at that time. Then in the early 1400s, a young woman named Joan of Arc led a French army in a big battle in Orléans, France. She got the surprise win in a war against England! Eight U.S. presidents have been left-handed. They include Barack Obama, the 44th leader of the United States.

Players zoom high in the sky on flying broomsticks. They pass a ball and try to score by tossing it through ringed hoops. The athletes better watch out though— or a fast-flying Bludger could knock them off their brooms and send them falling instead of flying!

This magical sport is called Quidditch, and it was introduced in the very first Harry Potter book. Soon, fans were playing a version of the game in real life. The non-magical players had to change some of the rules, of course, and they played this version on the ground holding broomsticks between their legs!

Last week, Quidditch leaders announced another big change. Quidditch has a new name. The sport is now called quadball!

🐯Tigers are the biggest of the big cats. The wild animals roam and hunt across Asia. They live in many types of habitats, including forests, savannas, and even swamps. July 29th was International Tiger Day!

There’s good news for the big cats though, and the IUCN shared it just in time for Tiger Day. The group reported that there may be more wild tigers in the world than we thought. The experts estimate that there are between 3,726 and 5,578 tigers. That’s up from the 2015 numbers!

Experts will keep working to get tigers roaring to even greater numbers🐅

What does being an Indian really mean?

Does it simply mean dressing up in our traditional clothes during festivals? Relishing Indian food and the delicious Indian ‘mithai’ (sweets)? Or does it mean speaking one of the many Indian languages?

Maybe it is more. Being an Indian is cheering and celebrating the proud moments and achievements of India and Indians. It is being proud of our heritage and the value system.

It is essentially a very strong feeling of pride, and a great sense of respect for our nation.

Like an invisible thread, our love for our country binds us all together, no matter where we live. It gives us a sense of security, belonging and gratitude for being a part of this great country. Always feel proud to be an Indian!

Coins are made of many types of metals. Some are made of zinc, others are mostly copper. Well, one country in Africa just began using a coin made out of gold. On July 25th, Zimbabwe started selling gold coins!

The value of the currency of Zimbabwe fell so fast that people had to stop using it. Now, most Zimbabweans use the U.S. dollar to buy and sell goods. Government officials believe the new coin will get more people to use the country’s local currency instead. After all, the price of gold usually does not go up or down too much. No one knows if the plan to add a gold coin will work, but experts have their doubts.

Timor-Leste
Coral reefs and sea animals surround the island country of Timor-Leste - one of the youngest countries on Earth. Timor-Leste is a small country in Southeast Asia. It is the only country in Asia that is entirely south of the equator!

More than 1 million people live in Timor-Leste. Most of them have Southeast Asian or South Pacific ancestors. Timor-Leste’s official languages are Tetum and Portuguese, but people in the country speak Indonesian and English, too. Although there is no official religion in Timor-Leste, most of the population practices Christianity.

People in Timor-Leste celebrate many holidays, such as Easter, Independence Day, and the Timor-Leste Coffee Festival. Music is also very important in the country. Much of the nation’s music is influenced by a style of Portuguese music called fado. For fun, people in Timor-Leste may also enjoy going to the beach, bird-watching, and mountain biking.

Timor-Leste’s national dish is ikan pepes. It is made of fish that is wrapped in banana leaves and steamed in chili sauce. Other popular foods in the nation include corn, pork, and rice.

Pringles likely won’t put spiders in its cans 🕷

But even if the company did — these creatures are nothing to be afraid of! The kidney garden spider is not venomous. The little crawler is mostly found across Asia, is common in gardens and often builds its webs in bushes. The spider’s webs are called orb webs because they form a spiral wheel shape. For this reason, the kidney garden spider is also called a pale orb-weaver.

Will the spider add another name to this list in the future?

“Each morning when I awake, I experience again a supreme pleasure – that of being Salvador Dali.” – Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali was born in Spain and later moved to the United States. When he was growing up, he felt different from other kids and needed a lot of attention. He first started painting at the age of 6 and went on to create more than 1500 paintings in his lifetime. He also created illustrations, sculptures, short films and wrote books.

Dali was as well known for his personality as his art. He loved himself and he loved attention. When he was in public, he would jump up and down to get people to notice him! Arriving at an event in a car filled with cauliflowers, giving a talk about his art while wearing a deep-sea diving suit, were some of the odd ways in which he tried to find attention.

Cities aren’t all the same.
Some have towering skyscrapers, while others are packed with plenty of parks. The foods are different, and so are the laws, schools, and hospitals. These differences make some cities easier to live in than others.

A new report found that Vienna, Austria, is the world’s most livable city in 2022!

In Vienna, restaurants and museums closed during the pandemic, which hurt the city’s culture score. Now, Vienna has reopened. There are plenty of opportunities for entertainment, including at the city’s famous opera house. Some people even call Vienna the “capital of classical music.”

According to the report, “stability and good infrastructure are the city’s main charms for its inhabitants.” The people of Vienna also feel supported by a good healthcare system.

"I think it is possible for ordinary people to choose to be extraordinary."

Elon Musk has proven this time and again.

*Some fun facts* ✨

- Musk is sometimes referred to as a thrillionaire, a high-tech entrepreneur looking to turn science-fiction into reality.

- Musk is a massive fan of video games, and often ends up staying back at work playing games like World of Warcraft or Counter Strike with his employees.

- When Musk was a child, he would often gaze into the distance while his parents were speaking to him, which led them to believe that he might be hard of hearing.

- Elon Musk named his son X Æ A-XII!
The meaning as explained by the mother on Twitter:

X, the unknown variable
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (their favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent
+ (A=Archangel, my favorite song)

Happy Guru Purnima! 💫

A famous saying by Kabir that translates to -

Spiritual Teacher or Guru is even greater than God.
He says, if teacher and God are both in front of me, who will I greet first.
He then says, it is only because of teacher’s teaching that I am able to see God. ✨

The deepest and most-detailed infrared image of the distant universe has been released by NASA.

Taken by the revolutionary James Webb Space Telescope, the picture shows, in stunning detail, our universe more than 13 billion years ago.

It is the farthest humanity has ever seen in both time and distance, closer to the dawn of time and the edge of the universe, with part of the image showing light from soon after the Big Bang.

☄️ Why is it celebrated? ☄️

Asteroid Day is an annual global event which is held on the anniversary of the Tunguska event in 1908, when an asteroid leveled about 2,150 square kilometres forest in Siberia.

🌎 What is the motive behind it? 🌎

The mission is to educate the public about the importance of asteroids –their role in the formation of our solar system, their impact in space resources and the importance of defending our planet from future impacts.
