PDF Staff of Sub-Division Baghat under the supervision of AEE Tasaduq Chowdry did tremendous job by restoring the electricity in affected areas even when snowfall was still on.

Post snowfall the restoration continues till every area get electricity. On the first day of disruption following heavy snowfall AEE remained on ground along the all field staff restoring electricity. Great job done by the division.

*Freezing Conditions Prevail Despite Rise In Mercury Across Kashmir Valley, Minus 9°C In Gulmarg*

Srinagar, Dec 31 : Cold conditions prevailed across J&K and Ladakh even there was slight rise in minimum temperature with Gulmarg recording a low of minus 9.0°C.

An official of the meteorological department told GNS that Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, recorded a low of minus 3.0°C against previous night’s minus 4.0°C. Although the temperature was above 1.0°C than the previous night, it was minus 0.9°C below normal for this time of the year.

Kashmir is presently under the grip of 40-day long harshest period of winter, known locally as ‘Chillai Kalan, which started from December 21. It is followed by a 20-day long ‘Chillai Khurd’ and a 10-day-long ‘Chilla Bachha’.

The mercury settled at the world famous resort of Gulmarg at minus 9.0°C against minus 9.6°C on the previous night, he said.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, had a low of minus 3.0°C against 4.2°C on the previous night, he said.

Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.6°C against minus 8.9°C on previous night, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.3°C against minus 3.6°C on previous night, the official said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 2.6°C against minus 4.4°C on the previous night, the official said.

Jammu, the J&K’s winter capital, saw a drop temperature by 8 notches from the precious night, recording a low of 5.1°C which is minus 1.5°C below normal for the place during this time of the year, he said.

Ladakh’s Leh had a low of minus 15.0°C against last night’s minus 16.0°C while automatic Kargil station recorded a minimum of minus 10.2°C. Drass in Kargil, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded a low of minus 19.8°C, the official said.

Weatherman has forecast widespread snow and rain spell of “moderate intensity” from January 4 to 6 in J&K and Ladakh.

“Widespread snow/rain spell of moderate intensity is most likely during 4-6th January in both J&k and Ladakh,” the official said. He said fall in minimum temperature is expected till January 2. (GNS)

*Three militants killed in Brief Gunfight in Kulgam*

Srinagar, December 29:(GNS) Three militants were killed in a Brief encounter with security forces in Mirhama area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam on Wednesday, an official said.

Official sources told GNS that three militants were killed in brief exchange of firing at Mirhama. However identity of the militants is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the area in hours. As the joint team of Police approached towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off an encounter.(GNS)

Srinagar, December 29:(GNS) One militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter at Mirhama area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.

Official sources told GNS, that one militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter, however identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.

Shopian Municipal council Removes unauthorised advertisement structures / hoardings,
In order to curb the menace of unauthorised advertisements, the Municipal council shopian has launched an extensive drive against the unauthorised hoardings/structures erected to display the advertisements within the jurisdiction of Municipal council shopian. Whenever any advertisement is displayed in contravention of section 116 of the J&K Municipal Act 2000, the same is actionable as per provisions of section 119 and 384 of the J&K Municipal Act 2000. The Municipal council shopian appeals to all those who have erected, exhibited, fixed unauthorised advertisements either on their private buildings / on public spaces to remove and dismount all such advertisements and structures forthwith failing which the same shall be removed forthwith at the risk, cost and responsibility of violators and penal action as per the provisions of J&K Municipal Act, 2000 shall be initiated against them. The drive shall also continue in the coming days.
