Food safety has a critical role in assuring that food stays safe at every stage of the food chain - from production to harvest, processing, storage, distribution, all the way to preparation and consumption.

With an estimated 600 million cases of foodborne illnesses annually, unsafe food is a threat to human health and economies, disproportionally affecting vulnerable and marginalized people, especially women and children, populations affected by conflict, and migrants. An estimated 420 000 people around the world die every year after eating contaminated food and children under 5 years of age carry 40% of the foodborne disease burden, with 125 000 deaths every year.

World Food Safety Day on 7 June aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other relevant organizations.

Professor Ama Ata Aidoo is dead 31/05/23

Ama Ata Aidoo born on 23 March 1942 was a Ghanaian author, poet, playwright and academic. With a career spanning more than five decades, she received international recognition as one of the most prominent African writers of the 20th and 21st centuries.Her first play, The Dilemma of a Ghost, was published in 1965, making Aidoo the first published African woman dramatist. As a novelist, she won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Changes (1991), She was the Minister of Education in Ghana under the Jerry Rawlings administration. In 2000, she established the Mbaasem Foundation to promote and support the work of African women writers. She also lived and taught in the United States, Europe and Zimbabwe.
May her soul rest in perfect peace.

🇳🇬Nigeria’s ‘King Maker’ Becomes President

Nigeria inaugurated Bola Tinubu as its new president on Monday amid challenges by opposition leaders who claim fraud during the February 2023 presidential race.

Tinubu, whose nickname was the "political kingmaker," delivered his first speech as president during a live televised broadcast from the capital Abuja’s Eagle Square.

“As president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria I will discharge my duties and perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully and in accordance with the constitution,” Tinubu said.
