Alpine Skier Arif Khan leading Indian Contingent at Beijing Winter Olympics proud moment for J&K: Advisor Khan

Extends best wishes to Skier for upcoming competitions at the event

JAMMU FEBRUARY 05: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan has extended his best wishes to the Alpine Skier Arif Khan for his upcoming competitions in Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.

While extending his wishes to Arif, Advisor Khan said that it is a proud moment for entire Jammu and Kashmir that Arif lead the Indian Contingent at the opening ceremony of the event. He added that we are hopeful he will return with flying colours and catch the worldโ€™s attention by their skill.

Born in Kashmir's Baramulla district, Arif took up skiing quite early in life, winning his first national slalom championship at the age of just 12.

The Advisor remarked that Arifโ€™s accomplishment to reach the Olympic stage will act as a big motivating factor for the sportsmen across the country and particularly for youth of Jammu and Kashmir to choose sports as a career.

Advisor Khan highlighted that Arifโ€™s participation in Beijing winter Olympics will bring added attention and showcase Gulmarg as a hub of skiing as government is already upscaling the infrastructure of winter sports.

Pertinent to mention, 31-year-old Arif will be the lone Indian competitor at the Games, having qualified in Slalom and Giant Slalom events and his competitions are slated for February 13 and 16.

Defending champions and Olympic bronze medalist India suffered a 3-5 loss against Japan in the second semi-final of the Asian Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament on Tuesday. India were heavy favorites on a record face-to-face and defeating equal opponents 6โ€“0 in their previous round-robin match before the start of the match, but the Japanese had other plans. The Japanese saw a completely different side on Tuesday as they toyed with the Manpreet Singh-led side's defense from the very beginning.

Japan scored from S***a Yamada (1st minute, penalty), Raiki Fujishima (2nd), Yoshiki Kirish*ta (14th), Kosei Kawabe (35th) and Ryoma Oka (41st).

Dilpreet Singh (17th minute), vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh (43rd) and Hardik Singh (58th) scored for India.

India and Japan had met 18 times, with the hosts winning 16 games, while Japan emerged victorious once and ended in a draw.

Japan will now take on South Korea in the summit clash, while India will once again take on Pakistan in the bronze medal bout on Wednesday.
