Worship refers to the reverent honor and homage paid to God. It involves both private devotion and communal gatherings where believers express their reverence, gratitude, and submission to God. Here are some key aspects of worship in the Bible:

1. **Adoration and Praise**: Worship often involves adoration and praise directed towards God for His attributes, works, and character. The Psalms, for example, are filled with expressions of praise and adoration.

2. **Sacrifice and Offering**: In the Old Testament, worship often included sacrificial offerings as a means of expressing devotion and seeking forgiveness for sins. However, after the advent of Jesus Christ, Christians believe that his sacrifice on the cross fulfilled the need for further sacrificial offerings.

3. **Prayer and Thanksgiving**: Worship also encompasses prayer and thanksgiving, where believers communicate with God, express their needs, and offer thanks for His blessings.

4. **Fellowship and Communion**: Worship often involves communal gatherings of believers where they fellowship with one another, share in the Word of God, and partake in rituals such as the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion.

5. **Living Sacrifice**: In the New Testament, worship is often connected to living a life that is pleasing to God. Romans 12:1-2 speaks of offering our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, as our spiritual act of worship.

Overall, worship in the Bible is a multifaceted expression of devotion, involving both inward attitudes of the heart and outward actions of praise and service. It’s not confined to a particular place or form but encompasses all aspects of a believer’s life.

The biggest deterrent to being close with God is our sin. Therefore, the first thing we can do to have a closer relationship with God is to make a daily habit of confessing our sin to Him. If sin is the barrier in our relationship with God, then confession removes that barrier. When we confess our sins before God, He promises to forgive us, and forgiveness is what restores a relationship that has been strained. We must keep in mind that confession is more than simply saying, “I’m sorry for my sin, God.” It is the heartfelt contrition of those who recognize that their sin is an offense to a holy God. It is the confession of one who realizes that his sin is what nailed Jesus Christ to the cross. Get serious about your sin and seek forgiveness.
