A Mumbai resident, Ahsan Kharbai, unexpectedly reconnected with Flipkart’s customer support six years after he attempted to purchase a pair of Sparx slippers. Kharbai had originally placed the order back in May 2018, but the slippers never arrived, and his order status has been stuck on “arriving today” ever since.

The order, which was a cash-on-delivery purchase priced at ₹485, was supposed to be delivered on May 20, 2018, after being shipped a day earlier. However, the delivery never happened, and the issue remained unresolved on Kharbai's account for years.

Recently, Kharbai took to the social media platform X to share his bewildering experience. He posted a screenshot of the eternal order status and detailed how Flipkart contacted him out of the blue regarding the six-year-old order. His post read, "After 6 yrs called me for this order asking me what issue I was facing," igniting a flurry of amused and sympathetic responses from the online community.

The incident stirred humorous reactions, with one user joking, "Maybe you opened Flipkart from Internet Explorer," poking fun at the notoriously slow browser and the protracted delay. Another user related to Kharbai’s plight by sharing that their own order had been perpetually "out for delivery" since 2015, illustrating a broader issue some customers face with e-commerce platforms.

Netflix is making strides beyond the digital space by introducing in-person experiential venues and launching its own brand of ready-to-eat popcorn. In collaboration with Popcorn Indiana, Netflix will offer "Now Popping" popcorn in two flavors: ‘Cult Classic Cheddar Kettle’ and ‘Swoonworthy Cinnamon Kettle.’ This new product line will be available at Walmart stores across the U.S.

Priced at $4.49 for an 8-ounce bag, according to Shoprite, purchasing one of each flavor would cost more than a month's subscription to the Netflix Basic plan with ads, which is $6.99. While Netflix doesn’t anticipate significant profits from this venture initially, their goal is to enhance brand visibility in thousands of retail locations.

Following in the footsteps of AMC Theatres, which also launched its own popcorn brand post-pandemic, Netflix aims to create a tangible connection with its audience. The company described the synergy of movies and popcorn as natural, akin to other classic pairings like hot dogs and buns, or ice cream and sprinkles.

Looking ahead to 2025, Netflix plans to open its first physical experiential venues, dubbed "Netflix House," which will feature merchandise, murals, and sculptures themed around its major film and series titles. Marian Lee, Netflix’s chief marketing officer, highlighted that these venues will offer regularly updated immersive experiences and unique culinary treats inspired by Netflix’s content, adding a physical dimension to their storytelling.

People angry at the expense of cleaning up the river have rallied under the hashtag , which translates as "I s**t in the Seine on 23 June".

While many actually ended up p**ping, thousands of French citizens planning to p**p in the River Seine had their plans flushed down the toilet after it was announced that president Emmanuel Macron and Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo would not swim in the river as they had previously announced, citing “political reasons.”

A website has been set up with the slogan: "They have plunged us into s**t, it's their turn to plunge into our s**t."

The anonymous programmer behind the website told news outlet Actu Paris why people are angry.

"The problem is that all the resources that have been invested have not been to resolve all the social problems we have at the moment," he said.

"We have the feeling of being abandoned. We see where their priority was."

More than €1.4bn (£1.2bn) has been spent on trying to make the water safe enough to swim in, with triathlon and open water swimming events scheduled to take place in the river.

A report published on Friday showed the water was still too dirty to swim in, just over five weeks out from the first triathlon event.

Protesters saw their chance when Macron and Hidalgo announced they would swim in the Siene to prove the water is safe for the games. Plans began circulating online for a mass-p**ping event, complete with maps and water-flow measurements to pinpoint exactly where people would need to p**p, and when to ensure their f***s would make contact with the politicians at the time of their swim.

Water samples showed high rates of two kinds of faecal bacteria, including E.coli, and did not meet the standards set for the Games, Paris region prefect Marc Guillaume said.

“Two people have lost their lives. There was trauma but the child (juvenile) was also in trauma.” The Bombay High Court has granted bail to a 17-year-old involved in a fatal car accident in Pune, which resulted in the death of two software engineers. The teenager, who had reportedly been driving under the influence, will now be supervised by his aunt.

During the hearing, the bench, composed of Justice Bharati Dangre and Justice Manjusha Deshpande, emphasized the principles of the Juvenile Justice Act, which prioritizes the rehabilitation over punishment for minors in conflict with the law.

The court highlighted the inappropriateness of the Juvenile Justice Board's initial decision to place the minor in an observation home, noting it was passed without proper jurisdiction.

The Bombay High Court on Friday had said that the accused in the Pune Porsche crash case was also in trauma, and he should be given some time.

The incident occurred on May 19, when the juvenile, driving a Porsche, allegedly hit a motorcycle in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, killing the two riders. Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board’s light sanction—a 300-word essay on road safety—drew significant public ire, leading to a reevaluation and the juvenile’s subsequent detention in an observation home.

Responding to a habeus corpus petition by the teen's aunt, the High Court ordered his release into her care, stressing the importance of his ongoing rehabilitation and psychological counseling. The court’s decision reflects a consideration of the juvenile's age and the statutory objectives of rehabilitation under the Juvenile Justice Act.

In related developments, the minor’s family members have been arrested under various charges. His mother allegedly attempted to swap his blood samples to interfere with alcohol testing, his father was charged with negligence for allowing the minor to drive, and his grandfather was accused of trying to manipulate evidence by coercing the family driver to falsely claim he was driving at the time of the accident.

It has been a norm since the first government of India that the speaker position is left for the ruling party and the opposition takes up the Deputy speaker's post but for the first time, BJP has refused to give up even the deputy speaker's post for the INDIA-bloc which has now resulted in never-seen-before elections within the Lok Sabha for the post of a speaker.

The Lok Sabha will elect its new Speaker on June 26, marking the beginning of the 18th Lok Sabha's inaugural session, scheduled from June 24 to July 3. This election is particularly significant given the current political landscape. Unlike the previous two terms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had an outright majority, the current government relies heavily on its allies.

The BJP secured 240 seats in the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections, falling 32 seats short of a majority. Key allies, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal (United) (JD-U), won 16 and 12 seats, respectively, making them crucial stakeholders in the government.

The election of the Speaker is governed by Article 93 of the Constitution. The post becomes vacant just before the new Lok Sabha convenes, which in this case is on June 24. Before the session begins, the President appoints a Pro-tem Speaker to administer the oath to the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs). The first two days of the session, June 24 and June 25, are dedicated to this oath-taking ceremony.

Nominations for the Speaker's election must be submitted by June 25, with the election taking place on June 26.

The Speaker is elected by a simple majority, meaning that the candidate who receives more than half of the votes from the members present in the house becomes the Speaker.

The Speaker plays a crucial role in the functioning of the Lok Sabha. Responsible for maintaining order and decorum, the Speaker decides the agenda for parliamentary meetings and allows motions, including adjournments and no-confidence motions. The Speaker also interprets and applies rules of the House, a role that cannot be challenged.

Producer Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment, which has produced movies like 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', 'Mission Raniganj', 'Jawaani Jaaneman', 'Bell Bottom', and others, has reportedly sold the seven-floor office of Pooja Entertainment to pay off his Rs 250 crore debt.

As per the latest report by Bollywood Hungama, Vashu is paying off massive debts with the money received from the sale and added that the production house has laid off 80 percent of its staff.

The report stated that the layoffs began in January 2024 after 'Jagan Shakti's film starring Tiger Shroff was shelved following a two-year struggle to take it on floors. The workforce was further reduced in April, specifically after the release of 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan'.

According to the report, this development comes on the heels of the disastrous box office failure of BMCM, which barely earned Rs. 59.17 crores at the box office against the investment of Rs. 350 crores, resulting in losses of at least Rs. 125-150 crores for the production banner. Sources say Vashu has sold the building to pay off debts to multiple financiers, amounting to approximately Rs. 250 crore.

A source close to the publication also revealed that the financial troubles for Pooja Entertainment began with the release of Bell Bottom in 2021, one of the first Hindi films to hit theaters post-COVID-19, which flopped at the box office. Subsequent failures of Mission Raniganj and the big-budget Ganapath, which was even rejected by Netflix, exacerbated the situation.

The report further added that the heavy investment in 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' further strained the company's finances. Despite hopes that this Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer would improve their financial outlook, its failure left Vashu with no choice but to sell the building to settle approximately Rs. 250 crores in debts owed to multiple financiers.

The report stated that despite the financial situation, Vashu and his son Jackky Bhagnani are 'determined to reboot operations' and work on projects that could help them bounce back.

In a major development for Muslim majority country of Tajikistan, the authorities have enacted laws to prohibit the wearing of hijabs, viewing them as "alien garments," and has also banned the custom of 'Idi' where children collect money during Eid celebrations.

These measures are part of the government's efforts to foster a secular national identity in a country where the majority of the population practices Islam.

President Emomali Rahmon, who has led Tajikistan since 1994, supported the legislation, emphasizing its alignment with the country's secular values. The laws prohibit not only the wearing and sale of hijabs but also any clothing deemed foreign to national culture, which includes certain Islamic garments.

Additionally, the legislation restricts activities around major Muslim celebrations like Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, and introduces heavy fines for violations of these bans. The government's actions are in line with President Rahmon's longstanding policy of maintaining strict control over religious practices to prevent any rise in Islamic extremism.

This approach reflects President Rahmon’s broader strategy to centralize power and suppress opposition, including religious political groups, to ensure the stability of his regime. These moves have sparked discussions on the balance between secular governance and religious freedom in Tajikistan.

Kozhikode in north Kerala, known for its rich cultural heritage, was on Sunday officially declared as India's first UNESCO 'City of Literature'.

State Local Self Government Department (LSGD) Minister, M B Rajesh, on Sunday in an official event here announced the achievement of Kozhikode which earned the place in the 'Literature' category of the UCCN.

Rajesh described Kozhikode as a city with a soul, characterised by humanity, harmony, a strong sense of justice and freedom of expression.

"These core values have given birth to the vibrant art of Kozhikode," Rajesh said.

The minister said the efficient functioning of the Kozhikode city corporation played a major role in bagging the 'City of Literature' tag from UNESCO after beating cities with rich cultural history like Kolkata.

The state government also announced that from coming year, June 23 will be celebrated as the 'City of Literature' Day of Kozhikode, a place known for literary greats like late S K Pottakkad and Vaikom Muhammed Basheer.

Known as the city of Zamorins once, Kozhikode, also known as Calicut during British rule, served as the gateway to the coast for many foreigners, such as Persians, Arabs, Chinese, and eventually Europeans, centuries ago.

The cradle of the freedom movement in Kerala, Kozhikode has also been an important destination for book festivals for many decades.

Kozhikode is a city where there are over 500 libraries functioning, and has been the base of literary activities of legendary Malayalam writer M T Vasudevan Nair for several decades.

Gwalior and Kozhikode from India are among the 55 new cities which have joined the UCCN. The new list was published on its website on the World Cities Day, which falls on October 31.

These cities join the list of places which received tags from the UNESCO including Bukhara – Crafts and Folk Art, Casablanca – Media Arts, Chongqing – Design, Kathmandu – Film, Rio de Janeiro – Literature, and Ulaanbaatar – Crafts and Folk Art.

NASA has issued an alert that an Asteroid that measures up to the size of a large 88-ft airplane is gushing towards planet Earth which could effect the entire planet. NASA has issued a warning about asteroid 2024 KN1, scheduled for a close approach to Earth on June 23, 2024, at 11:39 PM IST.

US space agency NASA, in the biennial Planetary Defense Interagency Tabletop Exercise, has found that a potentially hazardous asteroid has a 72% chance of hitting the Earth and we may not be adequately prepared to prevent it.

The planetary defence officer emeritus at NASA Headquarters in Washington, Lindley Johnson said, “The uncertainties in these initial conditions for the exercise allowed participants to consider a particularly challenging set of circumstances. A large asteroid impact is potentially the only natural disaster humanity has the technology to predict years in advance and take action to prevent.”

The Tabletop exercise summary noted, “During the exercise, participants considered potential national and global responses to a hypothetical scenario in which a never-before-detected asteroid was identified that had, according to initial calculations, a 72% chance of hitting Earth in approximately 14 years.”

To be precise, “72% chance of Earth impact on 12 July 2038 (14.25 years warning time).”

The exercise also highlighted several key gaps in Earth’s preparedness: undefined decision-making processes and risk tolerance, limited readiness for rapid implementation of space missions, the need for timely global coordination of messaging, and undefined asteroid-impact disaster management plans.

In Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, a shocking incident occurred when a 20-year-old man awoke in a hospital to discover he had undergone s*x reassignment surgery without his consent. Allegedly, his friend, Omprakash Pal, orchestrated the procedure with the collusion of medical staff at Begrajpur Medical College. The victim, from Sanjak village, was misled into visiting the hospital for a supposed routine medical check-up on June 3, where he was sedated and the surgery was performed.

The victim recounted waking up to find his friend informing him that he was now a woman and they would have to marry. Omprakash allegedly threatened the victim with violence against his family and the seizure of family property if he did not comply. This coercion stemmed from a two-year period of threats and harassment by Omprakash.

Local police arrested Omprakash Pal after protests led by the Bharatiya Kisan Union and its leader, Shyam Pal, demanded justice. The protests took place outside the medical facility, calling for action against both the friend and the involved hospital staff.

The victim expressed devastation about the betrayal, stating he went to the hospital trusting his friend. He reported that Omprakash planned to relocate them to Lucknow for a new start, further complicating his coerced new identity.

Authorities, including Khatauli circle officer Ramashish Yadav, have commenced an investigation, assuring that all parties involved will face legal scrutiny to uncover the full extent of this grievous violation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un went for a spin in an Aurus limousine on Wednesday, taking turns at the wheel of the Russian-built car.

The carefully staged public relations exercise was an opportunity to show their close working relationship and their ease in each other’s company as Putin made his first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years.

They have signed an agreement pledging that Russia and North Korea will help each other in the event of "aggression" against either country.

The Russian president made the announcement following talks with Mr Kim during a lavish visit to Pyongyang, his first since 2000.

Kim said it took their relationship to "a new, high level of alliance". The pact cements a rapidly blossoming partnership that has worried the West. It could also have significant ramifications for the world, say observers.

Any kind of mutual defence treaty could possibly see Moscow assisting Pyongyang in a future conflict on the Korean peninsula, while North Korea could openly help Russia in its war on Ukraine.

Kim is already accused of supplying Russia with weapons, while Putin is thought to be giving the North Koreans space technology that could aid their missile programme.

The two last met in Russia in September.

The North Korean leader gave Russian President Vladimir Putin a pair of Pungsan dogs, a local breed, state media KCNA reported on June 20. They were seen looking at the dogs, who were tied to a rose-covered fence, during a segment aired on the state-controlled Korean Central Television on Thursday.

The burning issue of irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) has taken a new turn with four arrested men confessing that question paper for the medical entrance exam was leaked the previous day.

The four men arrested from Bihar include aspirant Anurag Yadav, Sikandar Yadavendu - a junior engineer at Danapur municipal council - and two others - Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand.

They admitted that they received the question paper the day prior to the exam and were made to memorize it. In a statement to the Bihar cops, they said the exact questions were asked in the exam the next day.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Education has cancelled the UGC-NET exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), just a day after lakhs of students took it, allegedly over paper leak reports.

In a departure from previous years, the National Eligibility Test (NET) was conducted in a pen-and-paper format this time. Approximately 81% of the 11.21 lakh registered candidates appeared for the exam held in 317 cities nationwide.

The education ministry cited inputs that the integrity of the exam had been “compromised”, received from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

“To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled,” the ministry said in a statement.

“A fresh examination shall be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately. Simultaneously, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) for thorough investigation in the matter,” it added.

India has become the largest market for Nestlé’s Maggi, with the company selling six billion servings of the instant noodles in the fiscal year 2023-24, according to Nestlé India’s annual report.

The report highlights India’s position as one of Nestlé’s fastest-growing markets globally, experiencing high double-digit growth.

The growth in India was particularly strong in the prepared dishes and cooking aids sector, where Maggi noodles and Maggi Masala-ae-Magic were significant contributors. The product mix, pricing strategies, and volume growth were key factors in this success.

Additionally, Nestlé India pointed out that it sold 4.2 billion fingers of KitKat chocolate, making India the second-largest market for this product.

Maggi has faced significant challenges in India, including a five-month ban in June 2015 by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The ban was imposed due to findings of excessive lead content in the noodles, measuring 17.2 parts per million (ppm) against the permissible limit of 2.5 ppm.

This issue led to a drastic drop in Maggi’s market share from 80% to virtually zero within a month, and the brand has faced stiff competition in reclaiming its market position since then.

Despite these challenges, Nestlé India remains committed to the Indian market, having launched over 140 products in the past eight years.

The company plans to invest Rs 7,500 crore between 2020 and 2025 to strengthen its operations in the country. For the 15 months ending March 31, 2024, Nestlé India reported sales of Rs 24,275 crore.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University near the ancient site of Rajgir. This university draws its inspiration from the historic Nalanda University, which was a renowned learning center over 1,600 years ago in the ancient kingdom of Magadha, now Bihar. The original Nalanda University was established in the 5th century CE and was the world’s first residential university, attracting scholars from across Asia.

The subjects at Nalanda ranged from mathematics and astronomy to philosophy and Buddhism, under the patronage of the Pala dynasty. Notable scholars like Aryabhata were associated with Nalanda. The university was known for its stringent admission processes and had a vast library called ‘Dharma Gunj’. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the 1190s by Bakhtiyar Khilji’s army.

Rediscovered in 1812, the revival of Nalanda as an international center for learning was proposed by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in 2006, with the new university starting operations in 2014. The new campus, which PM Modi inaugurated, blends modern architecture with traditional designs and spans 455 acres, featuring environmentally sustainable elements like a Net Zero zone.

This revitalized institution now offers various postgraduate and doctoral research programs, along with scholarships for international students, aiming to restore its legacy as a global hub of learning and cultural exchange.

18/06/2024

For the first time in 25 years, India’s nuclear arsenal has exceeded Pakistan’s, according to a report by the global arms tracker, SIPRI. India is now estimated to have 172 nuclear warheads, surpassing Pakistan’s count of 170.

Additionally, the report highlights a significant development in China’s nuclear strategy, noting that China has placed its nuclear weapons on high operational alert, allowing for rapid deployment with long-range missiles.

Reflecting similar strategic adjustments, India appears to be advancing towards integrating some of its nuclear warheads with their respective launch platforms during peacetime. Historically, India has maintained its warheads and launchers separately. However, recent developments such as the deployment of missiles in canisters and the initiation of sea-based deterrence patrols suggest a shift towards a ready-to-launch posture.

India’s nuclear delivery capabilities encompass aircraft, land-based ballistic missiles, and submarine-launched missiles. Over the past year, India’s nuclear arsenal reportedly increased by eight warheads, up from 164. In contrast, Pakistan’s nuclear stockpile has remained steady. Since 2014, when India’s arsenal was estimated at 100 warheads, there has been a concerted effort to close the gap with Pakistan. This marks the first time since 1999 that India’s arsenal has been assessed to be larger.

The SIPRI report also indicates that China’s nuclear arsenal is the fastest-growing globally, with an increase from 410 warheads in 2023 to 500 in the current year. For the first time, China is also believed to be deploying a small number of warheads on missiles during peacetime.

17/06/2024

Rahul Gandhi has opted to retain his seat from Rae Bareli, while his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will contest from the vacated Wayanad seat. This announcement was made by the Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge.

Regarding Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's candidature, Rahul Gandhi expressed his continuous commitment to Wayanad: "You are now going to have two MPs, and I will keep visiting. She is going to be an excellent representative for the people of Wayanad. The support from the people of Wayanad has given me the strength to fight through very challenging times," he stated.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared her enthusiasm for representing Wayanad: "I am thrilled to represent Wayanad and I will ensure that the people do not miss Rahul's presence. I am committed to working hard and being an effective representative."

She also highlighted her ongoing connection with Rae Bareli and Amethi: "My relationship with Rae Bareli and Amethi is longstanding and unbreakable. I will support my brother in Rae Bareli, and we will both be active in both Rae Bareli and Wayanad."

Rahul Gandhi secured wins in both Rae Bareli and Wayanad in the recent elections, with significant margins over his competitors.

The protocol for MPs elected from two constituencies, as per Lok Sabha guidelines, mandates the resignation from one seat within 14 days of election results, which were declared on June 4. Gandhi’s office had inquired about the resignation process last week.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Chief K Sudhakaran hinted at the possibility of the Wayanad seat becoming vacant, emphasizing the national role expected of Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi admitted the difficulty in choosing between his two seats, remarking, "It’s been a tough decision as I can’t represent both seats, but I had to make a choice."

This situation mirrors that of PM Narendra Modi in 2014 when he was elected from both Vadodara and Varanasi and chose to represent Varanasi. In 2019, although Gandhi lost Amethi to BJP's Smriti Irani, his election from Wayanad ensured his presence in the Lok Sabha.
