The Centre decided in a meeting between senior security and intelligence officials that properties of supporters of terrorists will be confiscated in Jammu as well on the lines of Kashmir. Not only this, cases will also be registered against them under serious sections. The NDA government will also make a list of the supporters of terrorists.
Moreover, it is being considered that their family members of terrorist sympathisers wouldn't be given government jobs, sources aware of the matter told India Today. A meeting was held to review the current situation in Jammu given the possible visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21 and the Amarnath Yatra in the backdrop of the recent terrorist attacks.
Over the past few days, terrorist attacks took place across Reasi, Kathua and Doda, killing 9 people, including 7 pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, and leaving 7 security personnel and others injured. Incidents of terror attacks in Jammu, below the Pir Panjal range, have gone up significantly in the recent past.
In this meeting, it was clearly mentioned that infiltration into India through the international border connected to Jammu has been increasing. It was also noted that in view of the Amarnath Yatra, Pakistani intelligence agency ISI is eyeing an opportunity to attack India, as per sources.

Veteran journalist Rajat Sharma Friday claimed before the Delhi High Court that he was defamed by Congress leaders Ragini Nayak, Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera over use of "abusive language" during his show on the Lok Sabha elections result day. Sharma's counsel urged the court to grant ex-parte relief by ordering removal of the alleged offensive tweets and videos against him on social media and restraining the political leaders from making allegations against him.
The lawsuit came up for hearing before a vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna who, after hearing arguments on behalf of Sharma, reserved the order on the interim prayer.
"Arguments heard. Order in chamber," the judge said.

Another layer of murkiness has been added to the Pune Porsche accident case, in which an allegedly inebriated 17-year-old boy rammed into and killed two techies on a bike, with police sources revealing that the doctor who helped switch the accused's blood samples had provided the same 'service' to several other people through a network of brokers.
Dr Ajay Tawade, the head of Sassoon Hospital's Forensic Medical Department, who has been arrested in the case and is in judicial custody, is one of the doctors who had allegedly switched the minor's blood samples with those of his mother to ensure that no alcohol was found in the final report.
Sources in the Pune Crime Branch told NDTV that their investigation has revealed that this was not the first time Dr Tawade had done something like that. Whenever there were high-profile cases of drunk drivers running over and killing people, the doctor's brokers, spread across Pune and four other districts in Western Maharashtra, would get in touch with the families and offer to switch their blood samples with clean ones so that the accused could get away with a milder charge.
"The brokers would demand lakhs for the service, usually above ₹ 5 lakh, and the money would be funnelled to Dr Tawade, with them keeping a cut," said a source, adding that this had been going on since the doctor took over the forensic department nearly two years ago.
Mr Tawade has faced serious allegations earlier as well. He had been accused in drug cases and a kidney transplant racket, and had allegedly been elevated to the post of the forensic department head at the recommendation of an MLA and a minister

Sildenafil, popularly known by its brand name Vi**ra, may have benefits beyond treating men suffering from erectile dysfunction, a new study has found. The drug has the ability to enhance blood flow to the brain and improve the function of blood vessels in individuals at high risk of vascular dementia, says the research carried out by scientists at the University of Oxford.
Vascular dementia is a condition that majorly impacts cognitive functions, including judgement, memory and others. This happens due to the reduced blood supply to the brain affecting brain tissue and damaging it.
The study, published in the journal Circulation Research, marks a potentially pivotal step in the fight against dementia.
Key findings
Scientists found that Sildenafil has the capability to increase blood flow in both large and small brain vessels, which were measured by ultrasound and MRI scans. It enhanced the blood flow response to carbon dioxide, indicating improved cerebrovascular function.
Further, sildenafil, along with cilostazol, lowered blood vessel resistance in the brain, the study suggested.
However, it noted that Sildenafil caused fewer side effects in comparison with cilostazol, particularly with less incidence of diarrhoea.
"This is the first trial to show that sildenafil gets into the blood vessels in the brain in people with this condition, improving blood flow and how responsive these blood vessels are," said Dr Alastair Webb, Associate Professor at the Wolfson Centre for Prevention of Stroke and Dementia at Oxford University.
He asserted that these factors are associated with chronic damage to the small blood vessels inside the brain, one of the most common causes of vascular dementia. "This demonstrates the potential of this well-tolerated, widely-available drug to prevent dementia, which needs testing in larger trials,"
Dr Webb added.

A fresh encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district today, leaving a soldier injured. This is the fourth encounter the Union Territory has seen in the last three days, and the second in Doda region of Jammu division since yesterday.
Terrorists launched an attack on pilgrims on June 9 in Reasi in which nine people died. Yesterday, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kathua region.
One group comprising three to four terrorists were present in the higher reaches of Doda, a senior police officer had said this morning, adding a search operation was on to neutralise them on the challenging terrain.
Five soldiers of the Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) were injured on Tuesday night when the terrorists attacked a joint checkpost in the upper reaches of Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road in the hilly district.
"Over the past few days, we were getting information about movement of terrorists through the intelligence branch of district police and accordingly, temporary posts jointly manned by army and police were set up in the higher reaches along with check points on the (inter-state) road," Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range, Shridhar Patil, told reporters.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon. This was the second terror-related incident in Doda in the last 24 hours and fourth in three days in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, five Rashtriya Rifles personnel and a Special Police Officer were injured in a terrorist attack in Chattargalla pass.
In another incident late on Tuesday, a suspected Pakistani terrorist was killed by security forces in Kathua district. The overnight encounter ended after a second terrorist was also gunned down on Wednesday.
A CRPF soldier was killed in action.

President Droupadi Murmu has turned down mercy plea of Mohammed Arif alias Ashfaq, a Pakistani terrorist found guilty in the case of the nearly 24-year-old Red Fort attack.
This is the second mercy petition that President Murmu has rejected since taking office on July 25, 2022. Earlier, On November 3, 2022, the Supreme Court had earlier denied Arif's petition for a review, upholding the death sentence that had been imposed
Despite President's rejection of plea, legal experts believe that a death row defendant may still petition the Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution to have their sentence commuted on the grounds of protracted delay, even after the mercy request was denied. As per the President's secretariat ruling of May 29, the mercy appeal submitted by Arif on May 15 was denied on May 27.
Three Army servicemen were killed in the December 22, 2000, attack, which involved trespassers opening fire on the 7 Rajputana Rifles regiment stationed inside the Red Fort grounds. Four days after the incident, Delhi Police detained Arif, a Pakistani national and member of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that it has decided to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who were given grace marks. This decision comes in response to allegations of unfair means during the examination process.
In a statement to the court on Thursday, the Centre announced that these 1,563 students will be provided with the option to take a re-test. This move aims to ensure fairness and integrity in the examination process.
The Centre also detailed the steps taken to address the issue. "A committee meeting was held on June 10, 11, and 12 to investigate the allegations. Based on the committee's recommendations, the scorecards of the affected candidates will be cancelled, and a re-examination will be held for these students".
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has reaffirmed its decision not to halt the counselling process for NEET-UG 2024.
"Counselling will proceed as scheduled and there will be no interruption. If the exam continues, everything else will proceed as well, so there is no cause for concern," the top court said.
The retest will be conducted on June 23, while the result will be declared on June 30.
"A committee was set up to review the results of more than 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who received 'grace marks' due to time loss during the exam. The committee has decided to invalidate the scorecards of these candidates, who will now have the option to participate in a re-test," the Government/NTA informed the Supreme Court.
"The results of the re-test will be declared on June 30; counselling for admission in MBBS, BDS, and other courses will start on July 6," the Centre told the Supreme Court.
"All petitions, including those seeking cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 on account of allegations of malpractices, will be taken up on July 8," the top court said.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the centre and NTA, or National Testing Agency, over a petition seeking to cancel results of the NEET-UG 2024 - an ultra-competitive entrance test for undergraduate medical courses - amid allegations the paper was leaked.

Indian universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) will now be allowed to offer admissions twice a year on lines of foreign universities.
The two admission cycles – followed globally also - will be July-August and January-February from the 2024-25 academic session.
Speaking with TNIE, Prof. M Jagdesh Kumar said, “If Indian universities can offer admission twice a year, it will benefit many students, such as those who missed admission to a university in the July/August session due to a delay in the announcement of board results, health issues, or personal reasons.”
He further said that biannual university admissions will help students maintain motivation since they do not have to wait one full year to be admitted if they miss admission in the current cycle.
This will also help industries to do their campus recruitment twice a year, which will help improve employment opportunities for the graduates.
Biannual admissions will also enable the higher education institutes (HEIs) to plan their resource distribution, such as faculty, labs, classrooms and support services, more efficiently, resulting in a better functional flow within the university, he added.

A paramilitary soldier was killed in action while a terrorist was eliminated during an encounter after a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua came under attack late last night.
Two encounters that began overnight in Jammu have dragged into the morning. This also includes one in Doda where five soldiers and a special police officer (SPO) were injured during the initial shootout.
Just two days before these two terror incidents in Jammu, a bus carrying pilgrims had come under attack in Reasi and crashed into a gorge, killing nine passengers.
Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, who is supervising the anti-terrorist ops in Kathua, shared details of the encounters earlier this morning.
On the Doda incident, he said terrorists opened fire at a joint party of police and Rashtriya Rifles at an army base in Chattargala area late last night. An encounter is underway between the security forces and the terrorists in the higher reaches, he said.
The police said two terrorists were involved in the Kathua attack last evening and one of them has been killed. Security forces are now using drones to hunt for the second one in the Hiranagar area of Kathua.
The terrorists had asked for water from several houses, raising villagers' suspicions, and opened fire when some villagers raised an alarm, the police said. One civilian was injured in the firing, clarified Mr Jain and denied reports that three people died in the Kathua attack.

A US woman has claimed that she was duped into buying fake silver and gold jewellery worth Rs 300 for Rs 6 crore by a Rajasthan shop owner, the police said. Cherish said she discovered that the ornaments were fake when they were displayed at a recent exhibition in the US, NDTV reported.
The jewellery was apparently bought from a shop at Johri Bazaar in Jaipur. Cherish flew down to the city to confront the shop owner Gaurav Soni. But when he dismissed her allegations, Cherish approached the police in Jaipur and sought help from the US embassy, which later urged the Jaipur Police to look into the matter.
The US citizen told the police that she came in touch with Soni through Instagram in 2022 and bought ornaments allegedly worth Rs 6 crore which she has been paying in installments over the last two years before she realised that she was duped.
Meanwhile, the police said that special teams have been formed to hunt for Soni and his father Rajendra Soni, both of whom are on the run.

Delhi, dealing with the double whammy of an unprecedented heatwave and a severe water crisis, took a new blow this afternoon. There were power cuts in several parts of the capital city after a power grid in UP's Mandola - which supplies 1,500 megawatts of electricity to the national capital - caught fire, Delhi Power Minister Atishi said.
The temperature in Delhi this afternoon hovered around 42 degrees Celsius.
"There has been a major power cut in many parts of Delhi since 2:11 PM today. A power grid in Mandola, UP, which supplies 1,500 MW of electricity to Delhi, has caught fire. We are linking it to our other power sources," Atishi said.
"I will seek an appointment with the new Union Power Minister today since the country's power transmission is run by the central government," said the minister.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, criticising the Centre, said, "It is worrying that the national-level power infrastructure has come to a standstill today. The failure of the national grid in the country's capital is quite worrying. There was no power cut even when Delhi's peak power demand reached 8,000 MW. This power cut happened due to the failure of the national infrastructure."

There won’t be three capitals of Andhra Pradesh, but one, said TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, a day before his swearing-in as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Naidu said that Amaravati would be the sole capital of the state.

“In our government, there will be no games under the guise of three capitals. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital,” asserted Naidu, during a joint meeting of TDP, BJP and Janasena legislators. Naidu was unanimously announced as the leader of the NDA bloc in Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu, as the first chief minister of the bifurcated Andhra Pradesh had floated the idea of Amaravati as the capital city. However, in 2019, he was defeated by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP, who won with a landslide victory.

Reddy had his own plans, and proposed the theory of the three capitals to ensure equitable development. But again, with Reddy’s ousting in the 2024 assembly elections in the state, Naidu has decided to name Amaravati as the sole capital.
After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Hyderabad was designated as the shared capital for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for 10 years. Hyderabad ceased to be Andhra Pradesh’s capital on June 2.
Naidu, in this earlier stint as chief minister, planned to build Amaravati as a greenfield capital with an investment exceeding Rs 50,000 crore. In 2016, he announced his plans for nine theme-cities and 27 townships in the capital. The World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank also pledged $300 million and $200 million, respectively but things went sideways after the Naidu government was toppled by Reddy.

A case was registered on Monday against newly-elected MP from Bihar' Purnia Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, after a businessman accused him of trying to extort money from him.
According to a statement issued by the police in Purnea district, Yadav summoned the complainant, who runs a furnishing business in his constituency, to his residence on June 4, when counting of votes took place, and asked him to cough up "Rs 1 crore".
"The complainant alleged that Yadav, who had earlier made similar demands in 2021 and 2023, threatened to kill him (the businessman) if the demand was not met and warned him that he would have to deal with the MP for the next five years," the police statement read.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the MP and his close aide, Amit Yadav, at Mofussil police station, under sections of the Indian Penal Code. An investigation is underway.
On the other hand, the newly-elected MP from Purnia cried fould and called it a conspiracy hatched by those who are 'troubled' by his 'growing influence'.

North Korea on Saturday sent a new round of trash-laden balloons towards the South, Seoul's military said, after anti-Pyongyang activists in the South said they had lofted balloons with leaflets against leader Kim Jong Un across the border.
The announcement came hours after Seoul's military said it was on alert for a new filthy salvo arriving from North Korea, as the tit-for-tat balloon blitz revved up once again.
"North Korea is again floating (suspected) balloons carrying trash towards the South," the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, advising the public to report any balloons to authorities and refrain from touching them.
The Seoul city government, as well as officials in Gyeonggi province, also sent a similar text alert to residents on Saturday, warning about the balloons.
North Korea sent hundreds of balloons in two waves last week with bags of trash into the South, describing them as retaliation for anti-Pyongyang propaganda balloons sent the other way.
Pyongyang said it would stop last Sunday but days later, a South Korean group called "Fighters for Free North Korea" said it had sent 10 balloons with thumb drives containing K-pop music and 200,000 leaflets condemning Kim's rule.
Another group, comprising North Korean defectors, also said it had sent 10 balloons on Friday with 100 radios, 200,000 anti-Pyongyang leaflets, and thumb drives containing a speech by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Jang Se-yul, the leader of the second group, told AFP on Saturday that his organisation would not stop its balloon campaign, "whether Kim Jong Un sends trash-carrying balloons again or not".

Many people are concerned about robots taking over human jobs, especially with the rise of AI. However, perhaps it’s the machines that should be concerned about us. Swedish researchers have developed the first-ever “living computer” using human brain tissue.
The whole computer setup includes 16 organoids, which are clusters of brain cells cultivated in a laboratory and capable of exchanging information with one another. They operate akin to a traditional computer chip by transmitting and receiving signals through their neurons, which function like circuits. What distinguishes them is their ability to operate with significantly lower energy consumption. This is due to the fact that living neurons can utilize more than a million times less energy than the digital processors currently in use.
When comparing them to top-tier computers like the HP Enterprise Frontier, scientists discovered that the human brain, operating at the same speed and with 1,000 times more memory, consumes only 10 to 20 watts of power. In contrast, the computer requires 21 megawatts. One megawatt is equal to one million watts.
