Rohit Badyal SpokePerson Akhand Hindu Mahasangh Jammu Kashmir Unit demands compensation for farmers hit by Lumpy Skin Disease.

Rohit Badyal has demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 to farmers per cattle who had fallen prey to Lumpy Skin disease (L*D).

Badyal said that thousands of cattle in the UT had fallen prey to L*D since last few months but the government hasn't announced any compensation for the affected farmers.

“No effort is being made to take concrete steps at the ground level by coming to the aid of farmers by compensating them for their cattle loss as well as preventing the further spread of the disease,” he said.

He said while there were reports that nearly 2,000 cattle perished to the disease, the government must announce compensation for farmers as most of them were earning their livelihood by rearing cattle.

“Farmers have lost between Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh per animal to this killer disease which has crippled their source of income and is set to result in a setback to the UT’s push to diversification of farmer income and in order to keep this sector going, government must compensate farmers well, he said.

He requested LG Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter and announce compensation for the affected farmers at an earliest.
