The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday declared 111 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in its latest list. This did not include Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi’s name. Uttar Pradesh minister Jitin Prasada, who joined the BJP in 2021, was fielded from his seat instead. The BJP, however, has fielded Varun’s mother, Maneka Gandhi, from UP’s Sultanpur.

The party has also dropped senior leader General V.K. Singh (retd.) from Ghaziabad and fielded Atul Garg instead. Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut will contest from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, and Kerala BJP chief K. Surendran will fight against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad.
..A senior party leader told ThePrint on the condition of anonymity that the party dropped Varun Gandhi as he has been a “vocal critic” of the policies of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh.

Bharat सरकार ने लागू किया CAA, अब गैर मुस्लिम शरणार्थियों को मिलेगी भारतीय नागरिकता

केंद्र सरकार ने सिटीजनशिप अमेंडमेंट एक्ट यानी CAA का नोटिफिकेशन जारी कर दिया है। इसके साथ ही यह कानून देशभर में लागू हो गया है। CAA को हिंदी में नागरिकता संशोधन कानून कहा जाता है। इससे पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश अफगानिस्तान से आए गैर- मुस्लिम शरणार्थियों को नागरिकता मिलने का रास्ता साफ हो गया है।

नागरिकता संशोधन कानून की 3 बड़ी बातें...

1. किसे मिलेगी नागरिकता: 31 दिसंबर 2014 से पहले पाकिस्तान, अफगानिस्तान, बांग्लादेश से धार्मिक आधार पर प्रताड़ित होकर भारत आए हिंदू, सिख, बौद्ध, जैन, पारसी और ईसाई समुदाय के लोगों को नागरिकता दी जाएगी। इन तीन देशों के लोग ही नागरिकता के लिए आवेदन कर सकेंगे।

2. भारतीय नागरिकों पर क्या असर: भारतीय नागरिकों से CAA का कोई सरोकार नहीं है। संविधान के तहत भारतीयों को नागरिकता का अधिकार है। CAA या कोई कानून इसे नहीं छीन सकता।

3. आवेदन कैसे कर सकेंगे: आवेदन ऑनलाइन करना होगा। आवेदक को बताना होगा कि वे भारत कब आए। पासपोर्ट या अन्य यात्रा दस्तावेज न होने पर भी आवेदन कर पाएंगे। इसके तहत भारत में रहने की अवधि 5 साल से अधिक रखी गई है। बाकी विदेशियों (मुस्लिम) के लिए यह अवधि 11 साल से अधिक है।

Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain on Monday said that police are fully prepared to ensure peaceful Lok Sabha elections whenever they are announced and the force will provide a safe and secure atmosphere to enthusiastic voters.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating the police post at Rohmoo in Southern district of Pulwama, the DGP said that police force is fully prepared and geared up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in J&K.

“We will ensure peaceful Lok Sabha polls in J&K. We will provide a safe and secure atmosphere to enthusiastic voters,” the DGP said, in reply to a query.

Replying to another query about links between narco-terror and terrorism, the DGP said that earlier, they had a doubt whether these two are really linked. “As and when investigations progressed, concrete evidence came to fore that narco-trade and terrorism are deeply not only linked but interconnected. Terrorist outfits like Al-Badr, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Lashkar-e-Toiba are behind this trade,” he said.

The J&K police chief said that the value of Rs 15 lakh consignment of narcotics reaches upto Rs 1 Crore while travelling from Kashmir to Delhi and other parts of the country.

“We have a robust mechanism to curb and crack this trade. It is not so easy but we are doing and the police force is cable to do it,” he said

Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said those who accuse him of being in cahoots with the BJP have no right to say as they have themselves been in alliance with the saffron party in the past.

Azad's remarks came amidst accusations by regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir that his party was the "B" team of the BJP.

"Those who say that (I am B team), they both are A team. They have been in government and became CM. I have not been a minister or MP or MLA of that team.

"So, what right do they have to call us as a B team when they themselves have been a part of BJP governments?" Azad told reporters here when asked about the accusations.

In an apparent reference to the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Azad said such parties should do some soul-searching before accusing anyone else.

They should also check Parliament's records to see who spoke against the BJP there, he added.

To a question whether the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) had failed, the former J-K chief minister said they are doing their work and he is doing his.

"Whether it has failed or is successful, it is for the people to decide," he said.

About his remarks on China during his speech at the public meeting earlier, Azad said India is facing threat on the border from both China and Pakistan.

"Yes, there is a danger to the whole country. This is not something new," he said.

However, when asked that Union Home Minister Amit Shah makes no reference to China but says India will take Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Azad said, "Whether he says something or not, it is a danger to us. It is not necessary to say everything as everyone knows".

The DPAP chief said revoking Article 370 was a "mistake" by the central government.

"I spoke in favour of Article 370 in Parliament. These parties remained silent there as well. They only rake it up for votes," he added.

He was among the few Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs who came out in support of protesting farmers, demanded action against party colleague Ajay Misra Teni in the aftermath of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and criticised policies of his own party’s government including on burning issues like unemployment and economy, among others.

But 2024 seems to have ‘softened’ Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi.

The 43-year-old, a vocal critic of the policies of the Modi government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh, last week thanked Modi for the developmental work undertaken in his parliamentary constituency.

Since December last year, Gandhi has refrained from making any statement that might be seen as ‘critical’ of the BJP government in the state or at the center
