*DSEK amends summer vacation orders*

*Pre-Primary, Primary classes to observe summer vacation from June-26 instead of July-01*

SRINAGAR, JUNE 25 - Keeping in view the increasing weather conditions, School Education Department Sunday amended the previous announcement for summer vacations for Pre-Primary and Primary classes of Kashmir division.

Earlier on Saturday, the department has announced summer vacation upto 12th standard for all government and recognized private schools from July-01 to July-10. However, in a fresh communique, it has said that the Pre-Primary and Primary classes of Kashmir division shall observer summer vacation from June-26.

DSEK in a fresh communique said, “In continuation to previous order and considering the consistent rise in temperature, the summer vacations for pre-primary and primary classes of all government and recognized private schools shall commence from June-26-2023.”

On Saturday, the government announced summer break for all government and private schools of Kashmir division from July-01 to July-10.

“ All the government educational institutions and recognized private schools upto higher secondary level functioning in Kashmir division shall Observe summer vacation from July-01 to July-10,” reads the previous order.

*Mainly dry weather with evening shower forecast in J&K*

SRINAGAR, JUNE 07 - Mainly dry weather with possibility of rain and thunderstorm at scattered places towards evening has been forecast in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

Regarding forecast from June 8-12, a meteorological department official said that mainly dry was expected but a brief spell of shower and thunderstorm mainly towards evening can't be ruled out, although chances are less(10-20%).

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 12.4°C against 11.2°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 1.0°C for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 11.2°C against 9.2°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 0.8°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 6.0°C against 5.9°C on the previous night and it was 1.0°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 11.2°C against 9.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.

Kokernag recorded a low of 8.4°C against 8.4°C on the previous night and it was 3.4°C below normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 6.0°C against 5.0°C on previous night and it was below normal by 2.1°C for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 23.0°C against 21.4°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 12.2°C (below normal by 1.1°C), Batote 13.0°C (2.4°C below normal), Katra 19.0°C (3.1°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 10.4°C (below normal by 3.4°C). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of 2.4°C and 10.4°C respectively, he said.

*Weather Update*

Dry conditions are anticipated in Jammu and Kashmir until the afternoon, with the potential for thundershowers to occur in some places during the late afternoon or evening hours.

Intense showers, hailstorms, and gusty winds are expected in some parts of Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora districts, with a possibility of such weather activity occurring in other areas as well, albeit with lower chances.

*SIA raids underway at 9 locations in south Kashmir*

SRINAGAR, JUNE 01 - The State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir is currently carrying out raids at nine different locations in three districts of South Kashmir, an official said on Thursday.

An official said that that the SIA personnel accompanied by police and the paramilitary CRPF are carrying out raids at nine locations in three districts

“The searches are underway in Litter area of Pulwama, Shirmal and Kachwa area of Shopian and Chittergul, Semthan and Shangus Utrosoo area of Anantnag districts of South Kashmir,” he said.

He said these searches are being carried out in connection with investigation in the killing of Sanjay Sharma (Bank ATM guard) who was killed by militants in Achan Pulwama in February this year.

*New timing announced for schools within Srinagar municipality limits*

SRINAGAR, MAY 31 - The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Wednesday ordered change in the school timing within the municipality limits of Srinagar from June-01.

DSEK in a communique has said, “Consequent upon the approval conveyed by the Administrative Department, all government and private recognized schools within the municipal limits of Srinagar city shall observe school timings from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM from June-01.”

*7 killed, 16 injured in Jammu accident*

JAMMU, MAY 30 - At least seven persons were killed when a bus in which they were traveling fell into a deep gorge near Jhajjar Kotli area of Jammu district on Tuesday morning.

An official said that a bus (UP81CT-3537) on way from Amritsar to Katra fell into a deep gorge near Jhajjar Kotli.

"Seven people died on the spot while 16 others are injured, "he said, adding that four critically injured have been shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital & 12 others are being treated at local PHC.

*MeT Predicts More Rains As Mercury Drops Below Normal In J&K*

SRINAGAR, MAY 26 - Weather department on Friday forecast “fairly widespread to widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunder and lightning with possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds” during next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.

A meteorological department official said that intermittent light rain, thunder and lightning was expected at a few places during May 27-28.

From May 29-30t, the MeT department forecast “fairly widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunder and lightning with possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds at a few places.”

The MeT department also urged farmers to suspend all farm operations during May 29 and 30.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 9.4°C against 10.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.6°C below normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 7.0°C against 8.0°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 3.7°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Banihal recorded a low of 8.5°C (below normal by 3.7°C), Batote 11.5°C (3.5°C below normal), Katra 16.5°C (5.1°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 8.5°C (below normal by 2.6°C). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 1.2°C, he said.

*11 injured after bus rams into truck in Kathua*

KATHUA, MAY 25 - At least 11 passengers were injured after a bus rammed into a truck near Lakhanpur area in Kathua district on Thursday morning, officials said.

An official said that the bus rammed into the truck on NH-44 near Lakhanpur, resulting in injuries to at least 11 passengers.

He said soon after the incident, the injured were admitted to GMC Kathua for treatment.

Meanwhile, the police have taken cognisance of the incident.

*Traffic on Jmu-Sgr Highway suspended as rains trigger mudslides, shooting stones in Ramban*

RAMBAN, MAY 24 - The traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar national highway was suspended Wednesday after heavy rains triggered mudslides and shooting stones at few places in Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

An official said that due to heavy rain in Ramban district, shooting stones and mudslide incidents took place at various locations along the stretch.

He said the highway has been closed for traffic movement till further clearance. “Efforts are underway to restore highway for traffic movement ”, official added.

SRINAGAR, MAY 22 - Health and Medical Education department on Monday assigned additional charges to Dr Tabassum Jabeen and Dr Rajeev Kumar Sharma.

According to an order, Dr. Tabasum Jabeen incharge Deputy Director, AIDS Control Society J&K has been assigned the charge of Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization.

The order also stated that Dr Rajeev Kumar Sharma incharge Deputy Director Health services (HQ) Jammu has been given charge of Director Health Services Jammu.

It added that the arrangement in respect of the doctors is purely on temporary basis.

*Kashmir Valley, Parts Of Jammu Receive Rains; MeT Predicts More*

SRINAGAR, MAY 18 - Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu region received rainfall even as the weather department here predicted more rains and thunderstorms at scattered places during the next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official said that there was also a possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds at a few places towards late afternoon and evening during the time.

From May 19-23, he said, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with light rain at a few places towards late afternoon and evening.

“There is no forecast of any major rainfall during next one week,” he said.

Regarding the rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 hours, the official said that Srinagar received 1.2mm, Qazigund 2.8mm, Pahalgam 1.3mm, Kokernag 1.0mm, Gulmarg 6.2mm, Banihal 3.0mm, Katra 0.7mm, Bhaderwah 1.4mm, and Batote 0.7mm.

As regards the temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 13.7°C against 11.5°C on the previous night and it was 2.3°C above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 11.0°C against 10.0°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 0.8°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Stray Dogs Leave 7 Persons Injured at Multiple Places in Lolab Kupwara

SRINAGAR, MAY 18 - At least seven persons were injured after being attacked by stray dogs at multiple places in Lolab area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports said that the victims which mainly included women and minors were taken to SDH Sogam for immediate treatment where one of them with relatively serious injuries was referred to SDH Kupwara for preferential treatment.

Confirming it, an official identified the victims as; Asha Begum (55), wife of Mohammad Saleem Khan; Mohammad Ramzan (60); Shafat Ahmed (6), son of Ghulam Qadir; Bibi Noor (55) wife of Abdul Jaffar Naiku – residents of Divar and Haneefa Begum (50) wife of Abdul Khaliq, resident of Tekipora besides a 5-year-old boy from Maidanpora namely Aurungzaib son of Mohammad Ramzan.

“The victims are under treatment and there isn’t much to worry about their overall well-being”, the official said.

Mughal Road opens for one way traffic

SRINAGAR, MAY 12 - The historic Mughal Road was on Friday thrown open for one way traffic from Bufflaz to Peer Ki Gali.

As per an order, District Magistrate ordered one wat traffic on Mughal Road from May 12.

“In view of clearance of Snow accumulation and landslides from 19 KM (Dogrian) to KM 43 Peer Ki Gali as intimated by Chief Engineer Mughal Road Wing and Executive Engineer Mechanical Engineering Division, Rajouri-Poonch, the movement of one way traffic is hereby allowed on Mughal Road from Buffliaz to Peer Ki Gali w.e.f 12-05-2023," the order reads.

“Furthermore, Sr. Superintendent of Police Poonch, Sub Divisional Magistrate Surankote and Dy.SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch shall deploy sufficient personnels at Behramgalla, Buffliaz and Poshana Checkposts to ensure smooth movement of vehicles with strict compliance of this order," it added.

*MeT predicts ‘mainly dry weather’ as night temp hovers far below normal in J&K*

SRINAGAR, MAY 09 - After days of impermanent rains in plains and light snowfall over upper reaches, Meteorological department here on Tuesday forecast “mainly dry” weather along with rise in day temperature in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the next 24 hours, a MeT official said that mainly dry weather is expected even though “a brief spell of rain and thunderstorm in the late afternoon or evening can't be ruled out at some places, although chances are less.”

From May 10-12, he said, the weather is likely to be mainly dry. “There will be rise in temperature and warmer days are expected during the time.”

From May 13-15, he said there was possibility of rain and thunderstorm at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.3°C against 6.7°C on the previous night and it was 4.4°C below normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 5.8°C against 4.0°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 3.4°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 1.8°C against 2.6°C on previous night and it was 3.7°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.7°C against 5.2°C as on the previous night and it was 4.6°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.

Kokernag recorded a low of 4.0°C against 2.2°C on the previous night and it was 5.2°C below normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.5°C against minus 0.4°C on previous night and it was 5.7°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 17.4°C against 16.3°C on the previous night and it was 5.6°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 4.8°C (below normal by 6.1°C), Batote 7.8°C (5.0°C below normal), Katra 14.5°C (5.2°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 4.0°C (below normal by 4.0°C). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 1.6°C, he added.
