About The NEA

The Eight North Eastern States: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura – also known as seven sisters and one cousin, as they called, have covered an area of 262,230 km2, and are almost one-tenth of the Indian union. With nearly 47 million populations, Northeast India constitutes a single linguistic region with about 220 languages in multiple language families (Indo-European, Sino-Tibetan, Tai-Kadai, Austroasiatic) that share common structural features. Even though India shares its border with seven countries, five of them are in this region – Bhutan, China, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar (Burma).
