3rd batch of Postal Ballots of Service Voters arrives at Soreng District

Soreng, April 20 A total of 13 Postal Ballots of Service Voters were received from Post Office Soreng, today.

All the postal ballots were handed over to Ms. Rajani Pegha, Nodal Officer/DPO (DDMA) by the Post Master, Soreng in the presence of DAC officials and election agents representing various political parties.

As per the norms of ECI, all the received Postal Ballots were stored and sealed in the strong room set up at DAC Soreng.

Further, the entire process was videographed as per norms.

Mangan, April 18 Ensuring the smooth process of General Election 2024, Mangan District Communication Control room has been up and running since it was established on 18 March 2024.

The District Communication Control room is tasked with providing coverage for polling stations in communication black spots and shadow areas, while also ensuring the seamless flow of communication and information.

Gyalshing, April 18 In preparation for the upcoming general election, the police department of the district is poised to deploy personnel to various polling stations.

This morning, the deployment team received a comprehensive briefing from Mr.J Jayapandiyan, IAS, SP Gyalshing, Mr. Bijoy S***a, ASP Gyalshing, Mr. Kessang D. Bhutia, SDPO, and Mr. Roshan Gurung, PI, to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the electoral process.

Reserved EVMs for Mangan Sealed

Mangan, April 18 After the dispatch of EVMs and VVPATs to polling booths and sector magistrates of Mangan district, the reserved EVMs set consisting of Control Unit, Ballot Unit and VVPAT to cater any technical issues were sealed at the strong room of Mangan District Zilla Panchayat.

The sealing was supervised under Mr Pema Wangchen Bhutia SDM Mangan, assisted by election officals and in the presence of representatives of political party.

Gangtok, April 18 The dispatchment of Polling material, EVMs and VVPATs in progress here at DIET College in Burtuk today.

There are 132 polling stations in Gangtok district plus 9 polling stations for Sangha in Gangtok district. Five Polling stations are manned by all women team while there are 24 polling team with majority of female polling officers.

No of Polling Stations under Gangtok District are as follows:

16-Tumen Lingi- 22
17-Khamdong-Singtam- 18
23-Shyari- 18
24- Martam-Rumtek- 22
25- Upper Tadong- 11
26- Arithang- 12

General Observer, DEO and Police Observer holds a meeting with Sector Magistrates and Sector Police Officers under Soreng district

Soreng, April 17 A meeting of Sector Magistrates and Sector Police Officers under Soreng district was held at the District Administration Centre Soreng, today in view of the upcoming Poll-day. Ms Neena Sharma IAS, General Observer for Soreng district along with Ms Yishey D Yongda DEO Soreng and Ms Bhagyashri Navatake IPS, Police Observer together convened the meeting with the concerned Officers which had the presence of Mr Nakhul Pradhan SP Soreng, Mr Dhiraj Subedi Deputy DEO/ ADC and Mr Sunny Kharel RO/ SDM Soreng.

Ms Neena Sharma in her address reiterated the importance of MCC adherence throughout the elections. She underscored the importance of maintaining law and order and of ensuring poll decorum by all stakeholders. Further, she also instructed the SMs to have close coordination with the concerned SPOs during EVM transport and inspection of Polling Stations. She advised for strict vigilance and constant monitoring nuisance creators. Similarly, she directed the SMs to take cautious measures during EVM transportation and avoid any deviation. She emphasized the SM’s responsibility in ensuring that the voters are not being coerced or enticed during casting of polls.

The Police Observer alerted against fake callers for diversion by other forces and advised for proper verification before taking any action. She also laid down the instructions pertaining to security permitted for VIPs at polling station and directed all SPOs to apprehend offenders and law breakers.

The DEO reiterated on the route plans to be followed as well as the plans for the dispatch of Poll teams and for close co-ordination between the SMs and SPO. She stressed on the SMs’ responsibility of overseeing the EVMs movement and security once it leaves and reaches back to the Control Room. She also informed the house on the various Strong Rooms for EVMs as well as Postal Ballots and the plan for securing the machine as per the protocols. She further informed that each AC would have a dedicated ECIL engineer to take care of machine malfunction on the poll day. She instructed the SMs and SPOs to monitor closely those Polling Stations with high number of electors especially in the morning hours, at the start of Polls for a free in and out flow of voters. She stressed on the 72 hours Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as well as the 48 hours SOP to be followed by all and called for strict monitoring and beefing up of all field teams.

Simultaneously, Mr Nahkul Pradhan SP Soreng gave a detailed information on the security aspect of each polling station with regard to the ECI guidelines.
