Aid Worker Rescues Abandoned Toddler Accused of Witchcraft in Akwa Ibom

A one-year-old girl who was reportedly accused of witchcraft and left to die in a bush in Akwa Ibom State has been rescued by a Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven.

Loven, who is the founder of the charity organisation, Land of Hope, disclosed this in a post on her Facebook account on Thursday.

She wrote, "Yesterday, we received a call in a village to rescue a little girl in a very critical condition.

"Land of Hope Director of Child Development, Nsidibe Orok, went with our rescue team to the location.

"Orok was surprised when he saw the girl in a near death situation. She is said to be one year and a few months old. The girl was abandoned.

"Children who are accused of being witches are usually abandoned to die in bushes. The girl is now at Land of Hope."

PUNCH reported in 2018 that Lovén came into national consciousness when she rescued a starving Nigerian toddler from death after his family disowned him for being a witch.

The leader of Afghanistan's fundamentalist Taliban government has said it is determined to enforce the Islamic criminal justice system, including the public stoning of women for adultery.

"Our mission is to enforce sharia and Allah's Hudud [law]," said Hibatullah Akhundzada in an audio clip Taliban officials said was from his latest speech. They did not say where the reclusive leader spoke, but Akhundzada lives in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar and rarely leaves what is known as the Taliban's historical birthplace and political headquarters.

He primarily addressed Western critics of the Taliban government, which Akhundzada is effectively controlling from Kandahar, through edicts based on his strict interpretation of Islam.

"You may call it a violation of women's rights when we publicly stone or flog them for committing adultery because they conflict with your democratic principles,” said the Taliban chief.

Nollywood legend, Amaechi Muonagor dies at 61.

The Nollywood actor reportedly died today, March 24, after suffering from kidney-related issues, diabetes, and stroke.

In 2023, he suffered a stroke that led to partial paralysis of his left leg.

He was undergoing weekly dialysis and physiotherapy to treat the paralysis brought on by stroke.

His death comes just days after he cried out for financial assistance on social media to enable him pay for a kidney transplant.

The actor appeared in scores of Nigerian movies. He was famous for his role in Aki and Paw Paw, where he played the father of two mischief-making young boys.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Chikodi Muonagor, and their children.

His fans have gone on X to mourn him.

Six Policemen Killed In Delta Ambush, Six Others Missing

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the deaths of six officers killed while investigating the disappearance of three colleagues in Delta State.

The Force's Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Adejobi added that six other officers are still missing and five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for an attack in Moscow in a statement posted on social media.

In a statement posted by its Aamaq news agency, the group said it attacked a large gathering of Christians in the city of Krasnogorsk on the outskirts of the Russian capital of Moscow, killing and wounding hundreds.

It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the claim.

The attack occurred in the Crocus City Hall, a large music venue, according to Russia's Federal Security Service, the main domestic security and counterterrorism agency. Gunmen burst in and sprayed the crowd with gunfire, killing at least 40 people, injuring more than 100, the security service said. The venue was also set on fire.

"Please my sister is missing, she’s a student of University of Abuja, she went to school today, as she just finished from Electrical Engineering Department late last year, so she’s doing project and the rest.

She called by 3pm and said that she was on her way back, and asking if food is ready and we didn't hear from her till now.

We kept calling her number and one person picked at some point and said the owner of this phone is dead, the owner of this phone is dead, started speaking Hausa and dropped the call, then they stopped picking our calls to let us know where they are and all.

I am a married man with 2 children. My wife traveled to UK after successfull scholarships for 2years only, but still now is 4yrs, she has not yet returned. Every time I ask her why she hasn’t returned yet as we agreed she will complained about different challenges she’s going through over there.

Before the end of last year, she met a white man who promised to help her have a stay and give her a better life on a condition of divorcing me and getting married to him.

My wife sent me a divorce letter which I need to sign to prove we are no more married . She told me I should act along because through the White man she will have more opportunities over there and also have financial stability and be given a stay in UK and she will be sending me money to support our 2 children.

If I didn’t sign it, she might be deported anytime. She also warned me not to tell anyone including our families because she told me we should make it a secret.

I am confused. 🙆‍♀️🙆‍♀️
