Man arrested for ra**ng deaf and dumb in Shopian

Police on Wednesday arrested a 57-year-old man from Shopian for allegedly ra**ng a deaf and dump girl over the course of several months. The case was registered after the family of the girl approached police, accusing the 57-year-old man identified as Abdul Gani Tantray (57) of Poterwal village of ra**ng the deaf and dump and leaving her pregnant.

Local JeM militant arrested in North Kashmir

A local militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit was arrested by security forces on Wednesday night in Gantmullah area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police officer said that a joint team of army’s 163 TA and police apprehended the militant from Gantmullah area of Pattan.

The officer identified the militant as Bashir Ahmad Beigh son of Ghulam Mohiudin of Shirpora, Kandi, Kreeri. “On his instance, raids were carried out in Kreeri late night which resulted in the recovery of one AK rifle with two magazines and 40 rounds,” the officer said.

Bashir, according to the police officer had joined militant ranks on April 2 this month.

The officer said that the two boys who were brought back and returned to their respective families were also lure to join the militancy by Bashir.

“In this connection, a case has been registered and further investigations taken up,” the officer added.

Sopore nurse tested positive for covid-19 infection

Sopore April 7 : A nurse from Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district who is working at JVC Bemina has been tested positive for coronavirus.

An official told that the 35-year-old nurse from Teliyaan Mohalla Sopore was home quarantined for 18 days. “Her report came today and she is positive,”.

Srinagar, Apr 7: At least three families will have to wait for DNA test reports to take the bodies of their militant kin killed in one of the deadliest gun battles in the woods along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir Valley.
