Four young children who went missing last month when their plane crashed in the Amazon rainforest were found alive Friday, Colombia’s minister of defense told The Washington Post.

“A joy for the whole country!” Colombian President Gustavo Petro tweeted Friday evening with a photo of the four siblings being treated by emergency responders in jungle camouflage.

The children, ages 13, 9, 4 and 1, survived in the jungle for 40 days. Their mother and two others died in the crash.

“They were alone. They themselves achieved an example of total survival. It will remain in history, so those children are today the children of peace and the children of Colombia,” Petro told local media.

The rescue mission — now dubbed Operation Miracle — saw more than 100 military personnel and Indigenous volunteers searching for the kids across a wide area, according to information shared by Defense Minister Iván Velásquez Gómez. The children, who are also Indigenous, are receiving medical care.

The pilot of the small plane, bound for San José del Guaviar, radioed an emergency call about an engine failure soon after takeoff on May 1, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia. The aircraft then vanished from tracking radar. Responders later found the crash site and three bodies, identified as the pilot, the children’s mother and another relative.

The children were sitting in the back of the plane, which was less damaged by the crash, a report said.

A search soon brought hope that they might be alive. The first discovery, a pair of kids’ tennis shoes, was made near the place of the crash. In the following days, rescuers found a diaper, a half-eaten fruit and a bottle.

On May 17, they came upon an improvised shelter, apparently set up by the children, where they found scissors, hairbands and small footprints.

They were eventually found about 3.5 kilometers, or 2.1 miles, from the site of the initial incident, according to the Colombian Air Force.

It is not yet clear how the children managed to make it alone for weeks in the world’s largest rainforest, although the situation is not entirely without precedent.

Hindu outfits staged a massive protest in Maharashtra's Kolhapur over controversial social media posts on Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan, officials have said.
Calling for a shutdown, the outfits said that the posts were intended to glorify the two rulers.

The protest turned violent when stones were pelted on the Protestors at Kolhapur's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, while they were demanding action against those men.

The police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the protesters, officials said. There were reports of clashes between two groups from other parts of the town as well.

"Some organisations had called for a Kolhapur bandh and the members of these outfits gathered at Shivaji Chowk today. Some people also started throwing stones, forcing police to use force against these people to disperse them," said Mahendra Pandit, Superintendent of Police, Kolhapur.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he is in contact with the senior police officials. He also appealed to the public to maintain calm.

"Investigation is underway and action will be taken against those found guilty," the chief minister said.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, is also monitoring the situation, officials said.

"There is no forgiveness in Maharashtra for those who praise Aurangzeb. Police are also taking action. At the same time, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that peace is maintained," Mr Fadnavis said.

In a major development, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed the Muslim side's plea challenging the maintainability of five Hindu women worshippers' suit filed in the Varanasi Court seeking the right to worship inside the Gyanvapi mosque in the holy city.

The order was passed by a single-judge bench of Justice JJ Munir. The Allahabad High Court, after hearing the arguments, had reserved its decision on December 23, 2022.

The Allahabad High Court's decision implies that the case related to the Gyanvapi Mosque will continue to be heard by the local Varanasi court. The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid (AIM) Committee and the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board had petitioned the high court to dismiss the five Hindu women worshippers' suit, arguing that it is not maintainable under the Places of Worship Act of 1991 and the Central Waqf Act of 1995.

They had challenged the decision of the District Judge of Varanasi, who had previously dismissed their objection to the suit. The civil suit in question was filed by Rakhi Singh and nine others, including five women, in the Varanasi court. They were seeking the regular worship of Shringar Gauri in the Gyanvapi mosque, a proposition that has led to significant controversy.

The Muslim side filed an objection in the court and appealed to dismiss the petition of women including Rakhi Singh.

Reacting to the Allahabad High Court verdict, Vishnu Shankar Jain, the counsel for the Hindu side, called it a "historic" verdict. "The court clearly has said that Anjuman Intezamia Mosque Committee's petition is not maintainable and dismissed it," he said while speaking to news agency ANI.

Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi, another lawyer representing the Hindu side called it a "big win" and welcomed the court's decision.

This dispute has been in the courts since April 2021, when the Varanasi court directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a comprehensive survey of the mosque complex.

Condoms and contraceptive pills were found inside make-up boxes given to brides at a mass wedding event in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district on Monday.

A mass wedding event was organised under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana, a scheme for women from economically weaker sections, in Thandla where as many as 296 couples were wedded. Condoms and contraceptive pills were distributed to newlyweds under the scheme. The packets were found inside make-up boxes that were distributed among the couples as part of the scheme.

Senior district official Bhursingh Rawat laid the blame on the state health department, saying that it is possible that health officials might have distributed condoms and contraceptives as part of an awareness program related to family planning.

"We are not responsible for distributing the condoms and the contraceptive pills. It is possible that the health department gave away the material as part of its family planning awareness program. Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana, we transfer ₹ 49,000 directly to the beneficiary's bank account. We are responsible for providing food, water, and a tent, which amounts to ₹ 6,000. I had no idea what was in the packets that were distributed," Mr Rawat said.

The Madhya Pradesh government launched the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana in April 2006 to provide financial assistance for the weddings of women from economically weaker sections. Under the scheme, the government provides ₹ 55,000 to the bride's family.

Last month, the scheme came under fire after some brides were made to take pregnancy tests at a mass wedding event in Gadsarai area of Dindori. A woman whose pregnancy test came back positive said she had been living with her fiance before the wedding.

The chief medical officer of Dindori had said that tests are usually conducted to verify the age of the bride and groom, to check for sickle cell anemia, and to ensure that they are physically fit.

The final match of the Indian Premier League 2023 season was scheduled to play on Sunday 28th May 2023 but was shifted to the reserve day for the first time ever in IPL’s history due to rain.

The rain gods did not show even the slightest of mercy on the reserve day too as the rain has played a spoilsport till now in the match. The match was started at the scheduled time of 7:30 pm IST with Chennai Super Kings winning the toss and electing to field first which was a very obvious decision. Their decision though, kind of backfired as Gujarat Titans posted a total of 214 runs on the board with the help of top fifties from Sai Sudharshan and Wriddhiman Saha. Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya also played fantastic cameos.

It started pouring down heavily as soon as GT’s innings got over. When the rain stopped and the curators were trying to prepare the ground for the match, a very hilarious thing was seen on field. The groundsmen were seen drying the practice pitches with the help of hair dryers and sponges. This is being termed as ‘JUGAAD’ by the fans in India.

It is really disheartening to see this as a cricket fan in India because BCCI is the richest board in world cricket and we don’t even have proper equipment for maintaining the ground.

Pandemonium broke out in a government school in Bihar after a snake was found in the mid-day meal served to children on Saturday. The incident took place at a government school in Forbesganj of Araria district. Dozens of children fell sick after eating the food and were admitted to a hospital in Forbesganj for treatment.

According to reports, the children were being served ‘khichdi’ prepared by an NGO during the mid-day meal when a snake was found in one of the plates. As soon as the news spread in the school, the distribution of food was stopped. However, the students who had already eaten began vomiting and were immediately rushed to the Forbesganj hospital.

Senior officers including the SDM, the SDO and the DSP reached the spot to take stock of the situation. An investigation into the incident is underway. More details are awaited.

Forbesganj sub-divisional officer Surendra Prasad Albela said the incident smacks of serious conspiracy and stern action would be taken after the probe report comes. He added the school authorities had a dispute with the NGO over cooking of midday meal. “It appears the snake was mixed with food,” the SDO said.

As per reports, the Centre spends a whopping ₹1000 crore on renting buildings to house various government offices in central Delhi.

The Central vista project will accommodate all such offices in the newly constructed buildings. He added, “Several offices of the central government are scattered in different places and many are in rented buildings that require huge amount.

Once entire Central Vista project gets completed, all offices will come under one place. This will not only save the rent, but also have better co-ordinated workplaces.”

Under the central vista project, a total of 10 new buildings is being constructed while existing structures were demolished on either side of Rajpath. A new Parliament building, MP offices, new residences for PM and Vice-President of India is constructed while the central vista avenue in Rajpath was remodelled. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be around ₹20,000 crores.

Reportedly, none of the existing heritage buildings was demolished as part of the project. Currently, only the new Parliament building and Central Vista Avenue are being built.

The Allahabad High Court, while hearing an appeal by a man against the dismissal of his divorce petition by a family court, observed that denying s*x to a spouse for a long time without sufficient reason amounts to mental cruelty.

The high court said that it was evident from the record that, since long, the parties to the marriage had been living separately, and the wife had denied discharging the obligation of marital liability.

The couple got married in 1979. After seven years, the wife's gauna ceremony was performed and they started living as a couple. According to the petitioner, his wife refused to fulfil her obligation of marital life and then she left for her parents' home.

The husband claimed that he made several attempts to convince her. But the woman did not establish any physical relationship with the husband. In July 1994, the couple got mutually divorced before a panchayat after the man paid alimony of Rs 22,000 to his wife. She later married another man.

Then the husband approached a court seeking divorce on grounds of mental cruelty and desertion. However, the trial court refused to grant divorce on the grounds of cruelty. Feeling aggrieved, he filed an appeal before the Allahabad High Court against the order.

A bench of Justices Suneet Kumar and Rajendra Kumar-IV, while granting the husband a decree of divorce, on Thursday said, "Undoubtedly, not allowing a spouse for a long time to have s*xual in*******se with his or her partner, without sufficient reason, itself amounts to mental cruelty. Since there is no acceptable view in which a spouse can be compelled to resume life with the consort, nothing is given by trying to keep the parties tied forever to a marriage."

Terming the approach taken by the family court "hyper-technical", the bench said, "It is evident from the record that since long, the parties to the marriage have been living separately, according to plaintiff-appellant, defendant-respondent had no respect for marital bond, denied discharging obligation of marital liability. There has been a complete breakdown of their marriage."

Financial Express is now reporting that the popular shopping platform, Shein will also be making its comeback to India soon. For those who don’t know, the popular shopping platform was banned in the country in June 2020.

Before its ban, Shein was one of the most popular shopping platforms in India. It was popular among females. In the latest development, a report suggests that Shein will tie up with Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance to make its return in India.

Post the return, Shein will sell its cloth in Reliance Trends’ offline store and Ajio’s online store. Both these platforms are owned by Reliance and Ajio is popular for selling clothes at affordable prices in the country.

This new partnership will include sourcing, manufacturing, and retailing which means Shein will also source its fabrics from India for its global and local operations. As of now, Reliance has not confirmed any news regarding the development.

Shein was banned in India along with 58 Chinese apps in India by MeitY owing to security reasons. However, in 2021, the company was spotted selling its clothes in India via Amazon during the Prime Days sale.

But, later it was also banned after a petition was filed in Delhi High Court stating that the Chinese company will have access to personal and sensitive data of several millions of Indian citizens.

During the Quad meeting in Tokyo yesterday, US President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese came up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a peculiar challenge. Both leaders have claimed that they are facing a torrent of requests from prominent citizens to attend events where PM Modi would be speaking.

According to sources, PM Albanese has said that he is unable to accommodate all the requests he has received for tickets to the community reception in Sydney. The sold-out venue has a capacity of 20,000 people but the Australian PM said he is still getting requests for tickets.

PM Albanese recalled his visit to India this year when he was welcomed by 90,000 people at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, sources said.

President Biden, presenting a similar problem to PM Modi, said, "I should take your autograph."

"You are causing me a real problem. Next month we have a dinner for you in Washington. Everyone in the whole country wants to come. I have run out of tickets. You think I am kidding? Ask my team. I am getting phone calls from people I have never heard of before. Everyone from movie stars to relatives. You are too popular," President Biden was quoted as saying by sources.

"Mr Prime Minister, you have made a significant impact on everything, including what we are doing in the QUAD. You also made a fundamental shift in climate. You have influence in the Indo-Pacific. You are making a difference," he added.

PM Modi has used his foreign visits as a vehicle to promote Indian culture. In Japan, the PM unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Hiroshima. In Papua New Guinea, he will release the Thirukkural, a classic Tamil language text in local lanaguage Tok Pisin.

Describing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a “serious disease”, which has become a threat to the national capital, BJP general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh told party workers at a meeting here on Thursday to ensure that “this disease does not become a threat to the country”.

He also asked them “to take a pledge to eliminate it from the place where it has originated”.

Mr. Santhosh made these comments while addressing party workers at a day-long executive meeting to prepare a road map to win all seven of Delhi’s Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general election.

Senior BJP leaders said the party will go to people seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while highlighting “corruption” by the AAP government.

Since the 2019 general election, the BJP has lost two electoral battles in the city — the Assembly in 2020 and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in 2022.

The BJP general secretary also took on Mr. Kejriwal, saying the AAP national convener, who once wore ordinary slippers, has “today built a 109-room Sheeshmahal for his comfort”.

Mr. Santhosh said, “AAP is full of corruption and anarchy,” and commended the BJP’s Delhi unit for breaking Mr. Kejriwal’s “false image”.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said, “The arrest of Manish Sisodia in the liquor scam and the way we have created public awareness on issues related to Arvind Kejriwal’s bungalow, the AAP Ministers are not in a position to go to the public these days.”

He praised his colleagues for participating in 20 protests against the Delhi government over the past five months.

He added that the party workers will go door-to-door for a month, starting from May 30, to publicise Mr. Modi’s achievements in the last nine years.

There is a possibility that the centre will develop 8 new cities in order to alleviate the population burden on the existing urban areas, a senior official has said.

MB Singh, director of the G20 unit of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Department, said the 15th Finance Commission recommended developing new cities in one of its reports.

On the sidelines of the Urban 20 (U20) meeting in Indore, Singh spoke to Press Trust of India. "After the finance commission's recommendation, the states sent proposals to the central government for 26 new cities, and after scrutiny, eight new cities are being considered for development," he said.

He said the centre will announce the locations and timelines for the new cities in due course.

"We have to build new cities in the country as the existing cities are not able to cater to the needs of citizens. Haphazard expansion on the outskirts of existing cities is affecting the basic planning of these cities," Singh said.

Developing a new city will increase social and economic activities within a radius of at least 200 kilometers, he said.

A financial roadmap for setting up new cities has not yet been finalised, but the union government will play a major role, he said.

In a huge relief for Adani Group, an expert committee appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate allegations around the company made by US short-seller Hindenburg Research has found that it was not possible to conclude if there has been regulatory failure on stock price manipulation allegations.

The Supreme Court had appointed the committee after US short-seller Hindenburg Research in a report alleged fraud, stock market manipulation and improper use of offshore entities by Adani Group.

The expert committee in a report said the Indian stock market as a whole was not unduly volatile post January 24, when Hindenburg came out with its damning report.

A study in the UK has claimed that more than half of the Hindu students in British schools have faced discrimination over their religion. The Study found that 51 per cent of Hindu parents surveyed reported that their child has suffered anti-Hindu hate at school.

For the report, Henry Jackson Society interviewed 988 Hindu parents, and most of them said that their children faced some kind of discrimination and bullying to the point where they stopped going to school. The study found "numerous instances of derogatory references made towards Hindus, such as mocking their vegetarianism and belittling their deities".

"In one instance, a female Hindu pupil had beef thrown at her, and a male student was reported to have to change East London schools three times on account of anti-Hindu bullying. Eight physical assaults were detailed," the study said.

In another example, a child "was harassed and told that if they convert to Islam, their life will become so much easier" and another was told: "You aren't going to survive very long... If you want to go to paradise, you'll have to come to Islam... Hindus are the herbivores at the bottom of the food chain, we will eat you up."

Another parent said children were told to watch videos of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik and to "convert because Hinduism makes no sense", the report said.

The report also said that there was a widespread misconception about the religious practices of Hinduism as it was being taught through an Abrahamic faith lens, affording inappropriate weight to 'Gods' and misunderstanding the key concepts. The misconceptions are said to directly cause bullying in the classroom.

'Real-life survivors' of forceful conversion and radicalisation on Wednesday joined the cast and makers of 'The Kerala Story'. The survivors shared their ordeal and exposed the radicalising strategy that was used on them.

Speaking at the event, a survivor said, "From 1999, we have been successful in bringing back 7,000 women. But that does not mean the number is only 7,000. Of the 7,000 women who came back, 26 of us are dedicated to this mission, fighting against conversion and bringing back people. The number is very large and it is very prominently happening. It is not just happening to girls but boys also. In the past one year, we have had at least four cases of radicalisation of young boys aged 15-17. Let's go by numbers. If we go by numbers, it is going to be much higher than 32,000."

Another survivor shared the radicalizing strategy that was used on her. "First they ask you questions. They will put you in confusion. In that confused state, they start criticizing our religion and gods...They said that there was one particular god and non to be worshiping other than that else it is sin or hellfire," she said.

Producer Vipul Shah said that the movie is about three women but presents the story of thousands of women. "There were a lot of talks when we mentioned about 32,000 victims. There are 26 victims here and one of them said that their institution has 7,000 such victims. Our film tells the story of three women. The story of three women is presenting the story of thousands of women. There were attempts to malign the film. The fight of these women should not be weakened and there should be no justice with them," he said.

'The Kerala Story' director Sudipto Sen said that two Keralas exist inside Kerala. "One which is like a picture, postcard, backwaters, beautiful landscape, Kalaripayattu, dance, martial arts. The other Kerala - the northern part of Kerala - Malappuram, Kasaragod, Kozhikode which connects to south Karnataka including Mangaluru, is a terror-network hub," he said.

Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi’s exit from Barcelona was certainly an emotional affair as the ace player broke down during his farewell speech. During the moment, the media and Barcelona players gave him a standing ovation for about a minute and a half.

We could see how Messi was holding back his tears. The 34-year-old bid farewell to Camp Nou after spending 21 years of his career and will now play for his new club Paris Saint Germain.

When Messi was getting emotional, his wife Antonella gave him tissue paper to wipe them off. And now, the lucky tissue that Lionel Messi used to wipe off his tears during his farewell speech at FC Barcelona is said to be on sale for an eye-watering $1 million.

A man has got the used tissue from the event and posted an ad online saying that the tissue would be available for sale on a site called Meikeduo. The person is auctioning the tissue with hilarious advertising – the tissue contained Messi’s genetic material that would allow you to clone a football player like him.

Left-liberals hate on Neeraj Chopra after his tweet congratulating PM Modi goes viral
Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra(Source: PTI)

Festive celebrations have swept the country on Saturday evening as ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created history by winning the nation its first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The medal holds special significance, given that it is the first medal by an Indian in over 100 years in the track and field Olympics. The last medal won by an Indian in athletics was way back in 1920.

Chopra’s historic Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics threw the country into ecstasy. Celebrations were seen in different parts of the country, especially Haryana, the home state of gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. Reactions on social media were no different as people congratulated the Olympian and expressed their gratitude for bringing a gold medal for the country.

While one would have assumed that Neeraj’s gold would be a moment of celebration for everyone in the country, there were some who were not quite pleased that the javelin thrower bagged a gold medal for India. These lot of people, who describe themselves as left-leaning, could not bring themselves to congratulate Chopra and celebrate his victory. The reason being Chopra’s old tweets where he was seen supporting their bête noire—Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
