4 Bihar residents killed as bus turns turtle along highway in Awantipora

Srinagar, Mar 18: At least four persons were killed after a bus they were travelling in turned turtle at Awantipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a bus turned turtle on National Highway in Gooripora area of Awantipora in which several passengers received injuries.

They said that all the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment, however, three of them succumbed on the way to the hospital while another succumbed to his injuries at SDH Pampore.

He identified them as Nasrudin Ansari s/o Islam Ansari of Khairawa Tola Pakri Harditerha West Champaran, Bihar - 845451, Raj Karan Das s/o Shivu as Singhari Gobindpur Kishanganj, Khatia Pichhia , Bihar - 855117, Saleem Ali s/o Mohd Alauddin r/o Hakimnagar Chilhapara, Katihar, Telta Bihar - 854317 and Kaisher Alam s/o Sheo Majaqurul R/O Birnagar Sharifnagar Barsoiqhat, Katihar, bihar- 854317.

All other injured have been shifted to hospital where the condition of a few more is said to be critical, he said.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and started an investigation in this regard—(KNO)

Muslims help perform last rites of Kashmiri Pandit in Pulwama

Pulwama, Mar 15: The local Muslims in South Kashmir's Pulwama district helped in performing the last rites of a 70-year-old Kashmiri Pandit, who died on Tuesday.

Setting an example of communal harmony and brotherhood, the local Muslims in Batapora Wahibugh village of Newa hamlet in South Kashmir's Pulwama came together to help perform the last rites of their Pandit neighbor.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Parry Lal Pandit resident of Wahibugh village about 8 kilometer from Pulwama town was a known figure in the area as according to the locals, he used to help persons in need.

As only a few of his family members were around, Lal’s local friends and neighbours from the Muslim community took it upon themselves to help perform his last rites, locals said.

The local Muslims organised and performed his last rites and mourned his death as one of their own. They shouldered his coffin and arranged wood for the cremation in the village, said Javaid Ahmad a local.

“He was one of us. We never thought of him as a KP. We arranged everything needed for the cremation,” said Mohammad Ramzan, a middle-aged man from the locality.

“He has been living here among us for many years. We have lived alongside each other and done everything together,” he said, adding that people from other adjacent areas also visited the residence to sympathise with the bereaved family members.

Lal's relatives also said that Muslims of the village always help them in times of need and they don't intervene in the religious affairs.

"They (Muslims) sit at a distance when a ritual has to be done by a Pandit, but the rest of the arrangements were arranged by them," they said—(KNO)

A rare laparoscopic kidney cancer surgery, usually done at tertiary care hospitals, was performed on Wednesday at district hospital Pulwama in south Kashmir and this is the first of its kind surgery conducted by any district hospital in Jammu and Kashmir.
The kidney cancer treatment surgery was performed by consultant urologist Dr Aashaq Hussain Bhat and his team at the district hospital Pulwama.

National Highway-44 Update:-
Pavement Quality Concrete work has started in the 925 meter long Tunnel T1 from Peerah to Kunfer in Udhampur-Ramban section of NH-44 in J&K. The Tunnel will reduce the distance of this section by 2.98 km and is expected to be commissioned by 31st March’23.
