Cop in Civvies Shot at, Critically Injured in Srinagar

May 07: A policeman in civvies was critically injured on Saturday while being fired upon by terrorists near Aiwa Bridge along Dr Ali Jan road in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. The cop, Ghulam Hassan Dar son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Danwar Edgar, was travelling on his bike, possibly on his way to duty at PCR, when armed terrorists fired upon him this morning, leaving him critically injured. The incident of violence is condemned at KRF.

Bandipora woman’s cookies win hearts.
Nida Ramzan, a 25-year-old woman from Astingo village in Bandipora, has given a new shape to the famed walnuts and apples of Kashmir by starting her own brand of cookies.
Named ‘Koshur Crunch - Kashmir in Every Crunch’, the cookies are made from locally grown apples and walnuts. The cookies are baked at two workshops by Nida and seven other girls in Astingo and Uri in north Kashmir.
“I always wanted to do something on my own, but I had no resources. I needed a platform and it was provided to me by Aseem Foundation, a Pune-based NGO. It helped me start my project,” says Nida, a computer application graduate. “My family also supported me in making my dream a reality,” says Nida.

A photo of a street food vendor working at a smoke-covered oven has won a major food photography award, reported BBC.

Debdatta Chakraborty was named as the overall winner of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022 for an image titled Kebabiyana, which was taken in Srinagar, in Kashmir. The photographer took the picture on a busy street at night, as vendors fired up charcoal ovens to prepare wazwan kebabs and other street food.

One Railway Protection Force personnel Dead, Another Injured in Pulwama Terror Attack

Srinagar, April 18: A Railway Protection Force personnel was killed while another was injured in a terror attack in the Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday. Both the injured personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where one of them succumbed to his injuries. KRF strongly condemns the attack. Terrorists turned frustrated by their elimination daily basis. Such coward attacks are highly reprehensible to the development of the region.

Independent Sarpanch Manzoor Ahmad Killed in Pattan

Srinagar, April 15: An independent Sarpanch was shot dead by terrorists in the Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Later the bullet-ridden body of the Sarpanch, Manzoor Ahmad Bangroo son of Mohammad Sadiq of Goshbugh area of Pattan was found in an orchard, in the Rakh area, and was taken to hospital, where doctors declared Manzoor dead on arrival. The killing came after a Hindu driver was target and killed in Kulgam on April 13.

Hundreds Attend Last Rites of Hindu Rajput in Kulgam

Kulgam, Apr 14: Spreading the message of unity in times of tension in Kashmir Valley, hundreds of people, mostly Muslims, got together for the last rites of Hindu Rajput who was shot dead by suspected militants in South Kashmir's Kulgam on Wednesday evening.

The Muslims of Kakran and adjacent villages of South Kashmir's Kulgam helped perform the last rites of Satesh Kumar Singh, as per Hindu rituals who was shot dead by militants last evening. The slain Rajput is survived by his wife and three young daughters.

Eyewitnesses told that as the body of Satesh reached his native place people in hordes came out to mourn the killing. “People were shocked. Everyone mourned his death as women were wailing when the body reached the village,” they said, adding that hundreds of people take part in his last rites.

From helping in making shrouds for the slain, Muslims shouldered his coffin and arranged wood for the cremation in the village.

"Majority of people present in the last rituals were Muslims. We performed his last rites. We condemn incidents that try to create differences between Hindus and Muslims. We live here in peace and harmony," Muhammad Yousuf, Satesh's neighbour.

"He was the son of the soil and we are in shock and grief over his killing. Even if a militant is killed, we mourn. After all, it is a human being who loses his life and his family has to bear the brunt for his whole life,” he said.

Wednesday’s killing comes nine days after suspected militants shot at and injured a Kashmiri Pandit in Shopian. Over the past three weeks, five other attacks were carried out targeting migrant workers in Pulwama, injuring seven of them — three from Punjab, three from Bihar and one from UP.

Kulgam and Shopian districts have small pockets with Rajput families who have not migrated out of Jammu and Kashmir.

Non-local Driver Shot at in Pulwama, Hospitalized

Srinagar, April 07, terrorists target a non-local driver in the Yader area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district counting the third attack in first week of April. The victim was identified as Sonu Sharma, son of Banarasi Sharma, a resident of Pathankot. He received gunshots after which he was immediately rushed to District Hospital Pulwama where he is undergoing treatment. Selective killing spree entered into this month as well with the first attack on two non-locals from Pathankot, in Pulwama and second on a Pandit medical shop owner. KRF condemns the attack giving a continuity to the cycle of violence and supressing human rights of civilians.

Govt Terminates 5 Employees Having Terror Links

On Mar 30, Jammu and Kashmir government terminated five Government employees having terror linkage. The
terminated employees include Police constable Tawseef Ahmed Mir from Pulwama, Computer operator Ghulam Hassan Parray from Srinagar, Arshid Ahmad Das, a teacher from Awantipora, Police constable Shahid Hussain Rather from Baramulla & Nursing Orderly, Health Dept Sharafat A Khan from Kupwara.
