A festive atmosphere prevails at Melamora in Khumtai in anticipation. The marathon is being held as part of the 'Destination Khumtai' programme. There will be two categories- 42 and 21 kms. The controversial statement has shocked netizens, over how such an insensitive remark was made in a state assembly by an elected member, and that instead of objecting, the Karnataka Assembly Speaker and members of the Legislative Assembly were heard laughing.
MLAs began to demand time from Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri to debate farmers' difficulties in the Assembly when the Congress leader made the obscene remark. Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri responded by asking how he could run the Session if everyone was given equal time. He told members to make their own decisions and stated to previous speaker KR Ramesh Kumar, "I feel like let's enjoy the circumstance, I can't keep this under control and take it forward in a systematic fashion."
Replying to the Speaker, the Congress leader said, "There is a saying, when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it."

1 killed, 2 injured in Nagaland's Mon as forces fire on mob attacking Assam Rifles camp.
Angry mobs vandalised the offices of the Konyak Union and an Assam Rifles camp in the vicinity on Sunday afternoon, setting fire to portions of the camp. The mob was demanding immediate action against the security personnel involved in the killing of the 13 people on Saturday evening.
As security personnel retaliated against assailants, at least one more person was murdered and two more were injured.
In response to the event, the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) encouraged the region's six tribes to boycott the state's largest tourism spectacle, the Hornbill Festival, which is currently underway.
"While expressing great regret and anguish over the indiscriminate firing by Indian security forces that resulted in the brazen killing of more than ten daily wage labourers from Oting village, the ENPO fiercely condemns the security force's barbarous deed," the organisation stated in a statement.
In response to the incident, the ENPO requested that the six tribes raise black flags in their respective Morungs at the Hornbill Festival venue Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, near the state capital.
"It must be known by all concerned that this order/movement is not against the State Govt., but rather to express dissatisfaction towards the security personnel who committed this horrible murder, and to demonstrate solidarity among the 6 tribes," it stated.
