Meet R.A.I.D – The Hardcore/Crossover Thrash Metal Band From Hyderabad Re-defining Heavy Metal Music In India
Background
The word "raid" typically brings to mind a sudden attack or assault against an enemy, often associated with warfare. This suggests the use of force or a counter-threat against a previous attacker. In the current musical landscape, where heavy bands often use words such as "brutal," "vicious," and "savage" to describe their sound, it is logical that words associated with attack are prevalent in describing heavy music in today’s musical landscape.
RAID, a hardcore/crossover thrash metal band from Hyderabad, India, is changing the way people perceive heavy music in the country. The band’s name is an abbreviation for “Rueban And the Imperium Division” monikered after frontman Reuban Issac. The band was formed in June 2016 by Issac, the vocalist and brainchild of the group, and has undergone various changes to reach its current lineup, which includes Abishek Allapanda on guitars, Sam Jaba on bass, and Bobbin Jaydev on drums.
Why Should You Check Out Their Music?
Drawing inspiration from hardcore legends such as Madball, Suicidal Tendencies, Agnostic Front, Terror, Snapcase, and Hatebreed, R.A.I.D’s lyrics focus on the classic ethos of hardcore, which is PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). The band aims to inject fresh energy into a genre that can sometimes be generic, by pushing the boundaries of both music and lyrics.
R.A.I.D has released three albums to date, including "The Strong Survive" in July 2018, "Imperium" in June 2019, and "Defiance" in March 2022. Their music has been highly acclaimed by fans and critics alike, earning them positive reviews and features in numerous popular entertainment magazines and blogs, such as Rolling Stone, Decibel, Metal Addicts, True Metal, Heavy Magazine, Metal.de, Unite Asia, and The Metal Wanderlust. Recently, they have also been shortlisted for The Indian Music Diaries Awards 2023 in the Best Album
