Tral encounter: One among three slain identified as JeM militant Wakil Shah, says Police

He was involved in killing of BJP leader Rakesh Pandita, identity of other two being ascertained: IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar

Pulwama, Aug 21: One among the three JeM militants killed in Tral encounter have been identified as Wakil Shah, who was involved in the killing of BJP leader Rakesh Pandita, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said Saturday.

He said that identity of other two is being ascertained. Three militants have been killed in an encounter between government forces and militants in forest area of Nagbaeran Tral in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday.

A senior police officer told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three militants have been killed whose identification is being ascertained while as the search operation is on in the area.

He said that slain belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit. “One of the slain has been identified as Wakil Shah of JeM, who was involved in the killing of BJP leader Rakesh Pandita,” the IGP told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area. “In the ensuing gunfight, three JeM militants were killed,” the official said—(KNO

*Gunfight breaks out in Tral forests in south Kashmir*

Gunfight has started between militants and security forces in in upper reaches of forest area of Nagbarean Tral in Awantipora of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in woods of Tral.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.
