What if the waste you throw away could become a ₹15.5 crore business?

That’s exactly what ScrapUncle did.

In 2019, Mukul Chhabra spotted a simple but massive problem in India’s unorganised scrap market poor pricing, lack of weighing transparency and a messy collection process.

Instead of ignoring it, he turned it into a business.

Starting with money borrowed from his father, a weighing scale and his father’s car, Mukul began collecting scrap himself.

Today, ScrapUncle has built a tech-enabled doorstep scrap collection model, appeared on Shark Tank India, and reportedly clocked around ₹15.5 crore revenue in FY2025.

The company also raised ₹22 crore in Pre-Series A funding in January 2026.

The lesson?

Big business opportunities aren’t always hidden inside fancy technology.

Sometimes, they’re hiding in the things everyone else considers waste.

ScrapUncle didn’t just recycle scrap.

It recycled the way we think about waste.

From a $42.5-billion fortune to a life sentence.

Hui Ka Yan, founder of China’s Evergrande, once led a real-estate empire with 200,000 employees and over $110 billion in annual sales.
But massive debt eventually brought it down. Evergrande defaulted in 2021 after liabilities crossed $300 billion, triggering a major property crisis.
Investigators later found nearly $80 billion in allegedly inflated revenue.

Now, Hui Ka Yan has been sentenced to life in prison, with his assets confiscated.
