As Govt aims corruption-free JK, ACB registers 444 cases in 5 years

Kashmir tops with 275 cases, Jammu records only 169.

Srinagar, Dec 09 : In a bid to eliminate corruption from Jammu and Kashmir, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered over 440 cases across the Union Territory in the last five years, indicating a strict response by the government against such practices.

Over the past five years, the ACB has registered a staggering 444 FIRs in different alleged corruption cases, exposing the persistent grip of corruption across Jammu and Kashmir.

From Kashmir’s bustling Srinagar to the administrative heart of Jammu, the data tells a story of vigilance, challenges, and the relentless pursuit of accountability.

According to the official breakdown of First Information Reports (FIRs) data, Kashmir province has recorded 275 cases, significantly outpacing Jammu province's 169 FIRs during this period.

The year 2022 witnessed the highest number of FIRs, with 128 cases, including 88 cases from Kashmir province—the highest single-year tally for the region in the last five years.

In 2022, the Srinagar ACB Police Station registered 40 FIRs, the highest for any single station. Jammu’s Central Police Station followed with 20 FIRs in 2024.

As per the official breakdown data, a total of 71 FIRs were registered in the region in 2020 with Kashmir province recording 38 while Jammu province closely chasing at 33 FIRs.

Similarly, 2021 witnessed a surge from previous year as J&K recorded 94 FIRs in different alleged corruption cases, with Kashmir province recording as many as 61 FIRs.

2022 again witnessed a spurt in alleged corruption cases, with the region registering 128 FIRs in different cases. However, 2023 witnessed a decline in such cases, as the region reported only 66 cases, of which Kashmir province reported 45 cases.

2024 has recorded 85 FIRs, with Kashmir province recording registration of 43 FIRs, with Jammu province closely following at 42.

Notably, as the fight against corruption in J&K seems far from over, the data highlights the persistent prevalence of corruption in J&K, particularly in Kashmir province..

Infamous drug peddler Raj Tanker involved in several cases who was evading arrest, tracked down and booked under PIT-NDPS Act in Srinagar

December 09: An infamous drug peddler namely Adil Rashid Bhat Tanker son of Ab Rashid Bhat @ Mama resident of Usmanabad Bemina is booked by Srinagar Police under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act (PIT-NDPSA).

It is pertinent to mention here that the accused person is involved in several cases of drug peddling including case FIR No. 08/2021 u/s 8/22 NDPS Act of PS Shergari, 119/2022 u/s 8/21 NDPS Act of PS Baramulla and 30/2023 u/s 8/22,27 NDPS Act of PS Batamaloo.

Keeping in view his persistent involvement in the illicit sale and distribution of drugs and narcotics through illegal network among the youth, a comprehensive dossier was prepared by Srinagar Police and the warrants for lodging him in jail under PIT-NDPS Act were obtained from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

The accused kept evading his arrest and had fled to Jammu and then to Delhi. However, due to resolute efforts of Police, on 06/12/2024, he was apprehended by Police Station Batamaloo and has been lodged in Central Jail Srinagar to serve his detention.

Police will continue its mission of zero tolerance against drug peddling. It is apt to mention here that recently Srinagar Police has attached many properties of drug peddlers worth crores of rupees which they had accumulated through sale of illegal drugs.
