Sikkim Police is mourning the tragic demise of it's three members including one ASI and two Village Guards who lost their life in a fatal road traffic accident on 15th June, 2022 while on active duty.
Today on 17th June, 2022, the Director General of Police Shri A Sudhakar Rao accompanied by SDGP Law & Order Shri Akshay Sachdeva, DIGP Gangtok Range Shri Tashi Wangyal Bhutia, Mangan District SP Dr. Shri Tshering Gyatso Bhutia and other senior officers attended the funeral of Lt ASI Santa Bir Tamang at Pakshep, Mangan District. ASI Santa Bir Tamang along with two other Village Guards namely, Ugen Lepcha of Lindong, Dzongu and Lyansong Lepcha of Tingvong, Dzongu had succumbed to their injuries in a road traffic accident on 15th June, 2022 at Lingzya. It may be recalled that the three deceased along with five others in a vehicle were returning from Upper Dzongu after making arrest of an accused of POCSO Act.
During funeral a full guard of honour (Sok Sastra) was provided to Lt ASI. The DGP personally handed over an ex-gratia of Rupees Four Lakhs to the next of kin of deceased. Thereafter, the DGP and other senior police officers visited the house of Lt Village Guard Ugen Lepcha at Lingdong and handed over an ex-gratia of Rs. One Lakh. The bereaved family of Lt. Lyansong Lepcha could not be visited today due to road blocked. However, the families of all three deceased were visited by senior police officers of the district from the time of escorting the dead bodies after post-mortem and initial necessary assistance were provided by the District Police. The ex-gratia of Rs One Lakh each to the VGs are being provided by the DGP from his SS Fund.
Sikkim Police will always cherish the supreme sacrifice of three fellowmen and pray for the peace of departed souls.
Note: At the time of writing this Press Release DIGP Gangtok Range who is the Spokesperson is on tour. Hence this is being issued under the instruction of the DGP.
