Skoda has reduced prices for its entry-level cars, the Kushaq and Slavia. 🚗

Valid only for a limited period, Skoda says this reduction aims to make the brand more accessible to a wider range of customers. The brand further explains that this benefit is due to increased operational efficiencies and economies of scale, which it has decided to pass on to the customers.

Additionally, the brand has renamed its variants from Active, Ambition, and Style to Classic, Signature, and Prestige. The Kushaq also gets two more variants: Onyx at the lower end and Monte Carlo as the second-top. No other changes have been made to the vehicles.

Mohan Savarkar, vice president, product line, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles talks about the technical details of the new Altroz Racer. 🚘🏁

About not having an automatic gearbox, Mohan says. “It should be a manual. The gear ratios have been tuned for the weight of Altroz, and to utilise the power of the engine properly.”

Explaining why it doesn’t have stiffer suspension, Mohan replied, “We have played with the stiffness of springs. Not everyone is going to race with it, so it needs to behave well, even in normal circumstances.”

Mohan Savarkar also talked about the steering, tyres, drivetrain, and the possibility of a DCT ‘box. To read the full conversation, head to our website. •

Vivek Srivatsa, chief commercial officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, shares his insights on the Altroz Racer in a freewheeling chat with 🚗

Vivek says the design inspiration was a cafe racer model and thus the initial name was also inspired by that.

Talking about the engine, Vivek says, “The Revotron 1.2 was always seen to be an unsatisfactory engine. Not powerful enough. And I think the way the car handles accentuates the lack of excitement in that engine. So that’s where it started. And we had a ready-made engine available with Nexon.”

When asked about what’s next, Vivek said, “This is just our initial foray into this side of the industry. We are definitely excited to push the envelope even further. This is the first step in that direction.”

Do you think a cool gear shifter make a car’s interior much more attractive? We love a slick-looking gear shifter, be it an automatic or a manual. Here’s a list of some of the coolest automatic gear shifters that came as stock fitment:

➡️ The 2003 Hummer H2 featured a gearshifter that looked like an airplane’s thrustmaster

➡️ The 2012 Mercedes-AMG G 63 and the E 63 featured a shifter with a T-design. The selector was unique and easy to use as well

➡️ The 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLR Mclaren featured a shifter that had a flip-up button on the top. You could open it and then turn on the ignition switch

➡️ The 2016 Volvo XC90 and XC60 gets an Orrefors crystal gear-selector

➡️ The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor features a gear-shifter that comes out and can slide back down horizontally, to let the centre console double down as a tray table

➡️ The 2019 BMW X7 featured a gear-shifter covered with a Swarovski crystal shell

➡️ The 2021 Genesis GV60 gets a rotating gear-selector. When the car is turned off, the selector faces down and a crystal sphere with LEDs stays on top. Once ignition is turned on, the gear shifter rotates and you can then see the drive controls

➡️ The 2021 Audi e-tron gets a two-level gear-shifter. The black part on the top remains fixed, while the silver part on the bottom slides to engage gears

What are other automatic gear-shifters that you find to be unique? •

More closer racing in Formula 1 for 2026? 🏎️🏁

F1 is claiming that with the new 2026 regulations, closer racing will be improved owing to the cars being more nimble and having active aero. Here’s more:
➡️ More powerful power unit: ICE power reduced to 536bhp from 751bhp, and battery power increased to 469bhp from 161bhp
➡️ Cars to use 100 per cent sustainable fuel
➡️ No DRS! Cars can instead use a boost of electric power when within one second of the car in front
➡️ Energy recuperation from braking doubled
➡️ Features active aero elements in front and rear wings: two different configurations allow for on-the-fly choice between more cornering speed or top speed
➡️ Downforce reduced by 30 per cent, drag by 55 per cent
➡️ Maximum wheelbase shorter by 200mm, width shorter by 100mm, narrower tyres and front wing
➡️ Cars lighter by 30kg: minimum weight reduced to 768kg
➡️ Improved safety: stronger structures and more stringent tests

What will be the effect of these new regulations? Share your thoughts.👇 •

In this part 4 of the gone but not forgotten CBUs, we look at more of the premium segment vehicles. Here’s more:

➡️ The Polestar division is Volvo’s equivalent to AMG, M or RS, except that it wasn’t so famous. The 2-litre petrol turbo mill made 367bhp and was quick, but just didn’t handle that well or have proper AMG like dynamics. It was priced very well at ₹52.5 lakh

➡️ The BMW 6 Gran Coupe featured a powerful straight-six diesel mill that made 309bhp and 630Nm, resulting in a 0 to 100kmph sprint time of just 6 seconds, despite the 1800kg kerb weight. It rivalled the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS, and was priced at ₹84.60 lakh

➡️ As said by our Ed in his road test, “Behind the wheel too you will like the E220d AT, because it is no different from the E-Class. Great quality, great tactility to the controls and great ergonomics. The only real difference to the regular E220 is the rear seat space.” It was priced at ₹75 lakh

➡️ The Audi S4 featured a supercharged 3-litre petrol mill that made 328bhp. It was built to handle well, especially on a set of twisties. The interior had alcantara seats and a three-spoke steering wheel. It was priced at ₹45.3 lakh

➡️ The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was the company’s first SUV. It featured a ladder-frame chassis and a 4WD system with a low-ratio transfer case. The 2007 model featured a 2-litre petrol mill, while its facelift in 2009 got a 2.4-litre petrol mill, same as the Kizashi. The 2007 model was priced at ₹14 lakh, while the 2009 model came in at ₹16.5 lakh

➡️ The Mini Clubman featured an estate bodystyle and had everybody wondering at the time, as to what six-door even means. On the contrary, it targeted enthusiasts who had families but still wanted something fast and quirky. It was priced at ₹38 lakh

➡️ Not much needs to be said about the American muscle, except that it was called off very soon by Ford. There are a few examples of the Shelby as well in India, built by pune-based AJP group, which houses a supercharger and pushes nearly a thousand bhp. The Mustang was priced at a fair ₹74.5 lakh

Have you seen any of these CBUs on Indian roads? •

BMW unveils the all-new 1 Series with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Here’s more:

➡️ New design front radiator grille and matrix LED headlights
➡️ 17-inch wheels are standard and optional upto 19-inch
➡️ M-Sport package gets a quad tailpipe exhaust system
➡️ Ventilated seats with an optional massage function
➡️ 10.25-inch infotainment display and 10.7-inch instrument cluster

The infrastructure in Arunachal has rapidly progressed over the past few years, with superb driving roads almost everywhere you go. Heavy rainfall in the region leads to a lot of landslides though, so go prepared for roadblocks, heavy rains and thick fog at this time of the year. A capable 4x4 like the Scorpio N does make life in the Northeast a lot easier though.
