You've probably wondered why social media algorithms exist, right?
While it might seem like algorithms gatekeep🧐 your content, they aren't trying to hide it from everyone.
Here's what I mean🤓
🔍Users' feeds are sorted by social media algorithms based on relevance rather than publish time.
🔍Apps have algorithms that determine which content should be seen first
🔍The algorithm categorizes content according to four factors:
The post itself: is it a photo or a video? How would you describe it? What kind of followers will enjoy it?
Information about the author: is he/she a friend? Does he/she post often? Do they post regularly?
What is the habit: do you watch multiple videos simultaneously? Which content is most engaging to you?
Your interaction history: Do you like or comment on the posts of the users you interact with?
🔍Feed algorithms also take into account the likelihood of 5 "critical" interactions:
Time commitment: How much of the user's time will be spent on the post?
Is the most likely to be liked by the user?
Are there any chances that the user will comment?
Save: what is the probability that the user will save the post??
Tap the profile: If a user comes across a post and taps the poster's profile, what are the chances that they will check it out?
🔍By adding people to your list of Close Friends, the post will rank higher in search results
You're more likely to see their posts and stories when you open the app if you add them to your Close Friends list.
🔍While punctuality is imperative, it doesn't claim all the credit:
Punctuality is often mentioned among relevant facts about Instagram's algorithm for a valid reason (when a post has been made).
Adam Mosseri, Instagram Head, explains that while it may seem like the feed is in chronological order, it isn't.
🔍Comments are interactions:
There are a lot of myths that are perpetuated about Instagram's algorithm, and it is very common to hear people talk about it.
For instance, comments with less than three words do not count.
Regardless of whether they contain just one or two emojis, all comments are taken into account.
