THE LOST HERITAGE MADARSA SULEMANIYA


Sometimes, the walls tell stories that books can't. A building that may appear to be just a brick structure often holds tales abandoned by time. Let me tell you one such story.
If you visit Patna City, you may have heard of the famous Gurudwara. But there’s another place, known as Nawab Bahadur Road, that preserves the legacy of Bihar’s Muslim scholarly heritage. In 1905, a Muslim school named "Madarsa Sulemaniya" was established here, making it one of Bihar’s earliest madrasas. At the time, it was known as "Majahylrum Ulum." Since then, the madarsa became renowned across India for its teachings, and its graduates were regarded among the elite.

The school also had a library housing rare books on Muslim history and literature that are not replicated elsewhere. Madarsa Sulemaniya was indeed a treasure of Bihar’s—indeed, India’s—rich heritage.

Today, however, this heritage stands as an abandoned building, left in solitude by both the government and the people. A rich heritage of our past, lost to modern-day development.
