Japan Unveils World's First Biomethane Engine, Pioneering Sustainable Automotive Technology

Japan has made a groundbreaking advancement in sustainable transportation by introducing the world's first biomethane engine. Developed collaboratively by Toyota, Suzuki, and Nissan, this innovative engine utilizes biomethane derived from agricultural waste, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional and electric vehicles.

Biomethane-fueled engines, such as the one in Suzuki's WagonR, deliver performance comparable to gasoline-powered cars while significantly reducing emissions.

With plans to release the first biomethane-powered cars by 2026, Japan is poised to become a leader in sustainable fuel technology, challenging the current dominance of electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
