One of the burning questions in Bhubaneswar, aside from where to find the best biryanis, is where you can get the best Odia thali or authentic Odia food. There are very few places, especially when it comes to fine dining and restaurants. Yes, there are local shops, but if you’re looking for a good fine dining experience, the options are limited. Recently, we discovered a place called Shree Odiani that serves authentic, or close to authentic, Odia food as per our Odia palate. It’s a great spot to bring your friends, especially those who have never tried Odia food before.At Shree Odiani, they have introduced special thalis, including Veg Thali, Chicken Thali, Mutton Thali, and Fish Thali. We tried the Mutton Thali, which includes rice, dal, aloo bharta, mix bhaja, khatta or ambularai or chutney, salad, and mutton curry or mutton jhola. The mutton was slow-cooked in spices, making the pieces tender and flavorful. The thali contains three pieces of mutton, and at ₹250, it’s a great value considering it’s a fine dining experience. However, do note that these are limited thalis, so if you want extra servings other than mutton, you’ll need to pay extra.As Odias, we also have an affinity for seafood. Here, you can try their Machha Besara or Chunna Machha Besara, where the fish is cooked to perfection in a besara, giving it a bold and tangy flavor. If you’re a prawn lover, you should try their Chilika Chingudi Jhola. The curry is rich and spicy, enhancing the natural sweetness of the prawns. For those who enjoy Chingudi Checha, they offer a flavorful and uniquely textured version of this dish.
