Name : spoon lily ( poisonous plant )☠️
Spotted at : Thomson nature park 🇸🇬

spoon lily, is a species of plant in the family Araceae native to rainforests of eastern Australia. The common name “cunjevoi” derives from the Bundjalung language of northern New South Wales.

Alocasia brisbanensis has very large, spade-shaped leaves on long, fleshy petioles, and grows to a height of 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in). The perfumed, summer flowers are greenish-cream in colour, and similar to an arum lily. Red fruits follow the flowering.
The plant is poisonous, and contact with the sap can lead to skin and eye irritation due to the presence of needle-like crystals of Calcium oxalate.

☠️❌Eating any part of the plant causes immediate pain, a burning sensation and swelling of the lips, tongue and mouth. A small number of children have died as a result of eating parts of the plant.❌

Wagler’s pit viper, is a species of venomous snake, a pit viper in the subfamily Crotalinae of the family Viperidae. The species is endemic to Southeast Asia. There are no subspecies that are recognized as being valid.[3] It is sometimes referred to as the temple viper because of its abundance around the Temple of the Azure Cloud in Malaysia.

Behaviour : Nocturnal and arboreal, the Wagler’s pit viper appears quite sluggish, as it remains motionless for long periods of time waiting for prey to pass by. When prey does pass by, or if disturbed, it can strike quickly.

Feeding : The primary diet of the Wagler’s pit viper consists of rodents, birds, and lizards. The pits, one on each side of the head between the eye and the nostril, are capable of detecting temperature difference of as little as 0.003 of a degree Celsius

The Wagler’s pit viper is sexually dimorphic: the females grow to approximately 1 m (39+1⁄4 in) in total length (including tail), their bodies being black with yellow stripes. Males, on the other hand, typically do not exceed 75 cm (29+1⁄2 in). Males have large triangular-shaped heads, with relatively thin green bodies. They are almost entirely arboreal, and their tails are prehensile to aid in climbing.

Diet : herbivore 🌿
Active : at night 🌒

The Sunda flying lemur (Galeopterus variegatus), also called Malayan flying lemur and Malayan colugo is the sole colugo species of the genus Galeopterus. It is native to Southeast Asia from southern Myanmar, Thailand, southern Vietnam, Malaysia to Singapore and Indonesia and listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. Although it is called “flying lemur”, it cannot fly but glides among trees and is strictly arboreal. It is active at night, and feeds on soft plant parts such as young leaves, shoots, flowers, and fruits. It is a forest-dependent species.

The Sunda flying lemur is protected by national legislation. The Sunda flying lemurs are often hunted by local people with spears or other lethal equipment for various reasons such as food and fur. Habitat loss is known to occur intermittently, particularly in developing countries such as Malaysia.
