Chandrayaan-3 Mission Makes Historic Landing on the Moon
On August 23, 2023, India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), successfully landed its Chandrayaan-3 mission’s lander module on the Moon’s surface. This is a major achievement for India, as it is only the fourth country to have successfully landed a spacecraft on the Moon.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched on July 22, 2023, and it entered lunar orbit on August 5. The lander module, called Vikram, separated from the orbiter on August 17 and began its descent to the surface. The landing was a challenging one, as the Moon’s south pole is a region with many craters and mountains. However, the Vikram lander successfully touched down at 6:04 PM IST, making India the first country to land a spacecraft in this region.
The Vikram lander carries a number of scientific instruments, including a camera, a spectrometer, and a magnetometer. These instruments will be used to study the Moon’s surface and its environment. The lander is also carryin#southpole called Pragyan, which will be deployed to explore the surface of the Moon.
The successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission is a major milestone for India’s space program. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the scientists and engineers at ISRO. This achievement will help to further India’s space exploration capabilities and its position as a leading spacefaring nation.
