• THE CANARA BANK OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION (CBOA) is in existence since 1966 and is the Only Recognized Association representing Officers in Canara Bank. Around 23,000 Officers all over India have enrolled themselves as members of this Great Organization, THE CANARA BANK OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that is affiliated to THE ALL INDIA BANK OFFICERS' CONFEDER
ATION (AIBOC), the largest National Organization of Officers with absolute majority in Banks and representing 91% of the Officers in the Banking Industry.
• IT IS THE CBOA, whose representative has been nominated by the Government of India as a Director on the Board of Canara Bank to mould the destiny of the Bank as well as Officers.
• CBOA has completed more than 5 decades of its existence and continues its unending crusade for securing more lasting facilities for all the Officers in Canara Bank.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has no political alignment while other Officers' Unions /Organizations have truck with one or other political parties or headed by outsiders as Office bearers who have no interest in the welfare of Officers other than their own political interest.
• It is the CBOA, which has taken the historical decision of NO LEVY ON THE BIPARTITE SALARY ARREARS, respecting sentiments of the members.
• It is the CBOA, that has started a voluntary forum “CANPAL” with motto “Helping hands never hesitate to stretch beyond boundaries.”, to involve the serving & retired officers for the development of the bank in all the parameters.
• It is the CBOA, that formed the “THINK TANK”, a structured body for the youth to suggest innovative ideas to brave the emerging challenges. It is the CBOA conducting YOUTH CONCLAVES in order to give due share in the governance of the ASSOCIATION.
• CBOA with its strong membership through its innovative platform 'CANPAL' invented by the 'THINK TANK' launched its project 'THUS WE CAN' at Mangalore with an objective to reach 10 lac crore total business and 10,000 crore net profit.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that gave leadership and security which attracted Officers belonging to other Organizations/Unions to join the mainstream to strengthen Officers' Unity
Salient Features of CBOA.
1. Democratic Functioning
• IT IS THE CBOA, that manages its affairs in democratic manner “Of the Officers – By the Officers – for the Officers” from its own resources through membership contributions.
2. Joint Conferences
• IT IS THE CBOA, that holds periodical Joint Conferences with the Bank Management to lay down policies on promotion, transfers and other service matters of interest concerning the Officers community.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has the exclusive privilege as Recognized Association to participate in Joint Meeting at Circle Level and Liaison Meeting at Head Office Level to get redressal of the grievances of Officers arising out of non-implementation, mal-implementation of agreed policies/norms.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has the credit for having successfully held 195 Joint Conferences with Management in a span of more than 50 years of recognition.
3. Accredited Defence Assistance
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has accredited defense panel to assist Officers in facing disciplinary proceedings in every region. Many punishments have been reduced and in many cases officers have been exonerated too. CBOA has got some Officers reinstated by the process of appeal. CBOA has been advocating for responsible restraint in resorting to disciplinary actions, especially in respect of age old matters and of trivial nature. Review of charge sheets is an added achievement.
4. Welfare Of Members
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has sponsored and created a Thrift Society at Chennai.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has created a Welfare Fund at Mumbai, granting Rs 50,000/- as Death Relief to members' family, in addition to Bank's Death Relief Scheme of Rs.1,50,000/-), besides assistance to its members on Hospitalisation up to Rs.25,000/-.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has instituted a CBOA BENEVOLENT FUND for its members by which in the case of `death in harness' of a member, a sum of Rs.4,50,000/- shall be paid to the nominee/s of the Member from the corpus of the Fund. A monthly subscription of Rs.100/- p.m. is deductible from the salary.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has been Honouring, all the officer’s members on superannuation with a suitable memento worth Rs. 5000/-, irrespective of the tenure of their membership in the association.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has been publishing its periodical e-magazine “FRIEND & GUIDE” (www.cboafriendandguide.org),a knowledge magazine called “Light Circle” (www.lightcircle.org). These e-magazine not only to highlight the achievements both at Bank and National Level but also to educate the members in matters concerning their service in the Bank.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has been publishing “EMPOWER” (previously known as "TIPS FOR CBOA MEN AND WOMEN”, which is widely acclaimed as a reference book.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has been publishing “CBOA’s Digest” promotion guides for JMG Scale I, MMG Scale II and III promotion at periodical intervals and systematic classes/mock interview sessions at all the important center’s all over India for the benefit of members/non-members.
5. Extensive Network Of Offices / Office-Bearers
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has a well equipped Central Office at Mumbai; Has a Liaison office at Bangalore which attends to the matters requiring attention of the Head Office.
• IT IS THE CBOA, to have own premises at Hyderabad, Chennai, Madurai, Mangalore, Trivandrum and Kolkata to cater to the needs of its members.
• IT IS THE CBOA, that has network of Office-bearers even at the grass root level, Assistant Regional Secretaries / Regional Committee Members / District President/District Secretaries/ District Committee Members, etc. to attend to the grievances of members and to get solutions from the Regional Secretaries either at Liaison level or Circle Level Joint Meetings.
