WHERE CENTURIES ARE STILL BEING LIVED
THE VIBE — Travel
Ladakh isn’t a postcard. It’s a living archive of practices that have survived centuries—and they’re disappearing faster than most of us know.
High on the Changthang plateau, Changpa herders rear rare goats for pashmina. In remote corners, the Brokpa live in rituals and rhythms, their flower-adorned attire a reflection of centuries-old identity. On shagarans that still remain, polo players thunder across grounds vanishing under construction. In Kargil and Zanskar, archers pull bows handcrafted from bamboo, continuing a 15th-century warrior tradition. Deep in Chilling’s lower valley, metalworkers hammer copper and silver with techniques passed down over 400 years. And everywhere—potters turn earth into vessels that carry stories.
These aren’t tourist attractions. They’re living traditions hanging by a thread. Climate change threatens the herds. Modernization erases the grounds.
Swipe through to witness Ladakh before it becomes only a memory.
