Streaming service of the year 2024: Amazon Prime Video
The days of one streaming service being head and shoulders above all others have long gone: now you’re simply expected to subscribe to all of them, picking the best bits from each to get your TV fix. Explain to us again how streaming was going to save us money and free us from the tyranny of the big broadcasters…? Still, if one service shone brightest this year, it was Prime Video. Its steady stream of notable original shows (Fallout, The Boys, The Rings of Power) and exclusive movies (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest, Challengers) has kept us glued to its service. And even besides the originals and exclusives, its huge back-catalogue of great films, series and the new, cleaner interface makes it well worth the sub.

2024 Gadget of the year: Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max
Our pick for the overall Gadget of the Year could have been any one of those in our ‘highly commended’ section on the next page, but in the end, we just had to plump for this absolute triumph of the smartphone. While many might consider this an easy victory for the iPhone, it’s precisely why we picked it. There’s no other gadget that makes even the opulent lose their noggin and stroke their chin with desire. It sits in your pocket and does everything. And now with the help of ChatGPT, Siri is finally feeling smarter than a fifth grader. With processing, camera and quality, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is the pinnacle of a lustworthy gadget ever made.

Home gadget of the year 2024: Xiaomi RVC X10
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner X10 is a considerable step up from the earlier models, not just in power and capabilities, but also in the features on offer, including the selfcleaning docking station which can empty out the on-device dustbin automatically. Impressively, Xiaomi has managed to keep pricing low, making this one of the most well equipped and feature-filled robot vacuum cleaners at under ₨30,000 right now. It also helps that the app is excellent, and a fair bit better than the apps for competing robot vacuum cleaners. While the replaceable dust bags are a bit expensive, the overall ease of use and competitive price of the X10 itself make this a worthwhile robot vacuum cleaner to consider.

Innovation of the year 2024: Google Gemini Advanced
2024 will be etched in history as the year that gave birth to mainstream AI. Everyone from big tech to consumer appliance brands got in on it and if it had a screen or a speaker, it had to have AI. But the grand Gandalf of all things on the interweb, Google launched its Advanced version with a million token context window and the ability to speak and interact in the most human way possible via Gemini Live. For work, research or coding, the “Gems” on Gemini Advanced allow you to tailor the AI responses to precisely match your tonality and need. Constantly being updated with newer versions, 2.0 Flash supports multimodel inputs like images, video and audio and it’s only a matter of time until flagship smartphones have the horsepower to perform text-to-video on the fly. ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence might have joined hands, but Gemini integration goes deep into all of Google’s products and with its stand alone app, works superbly on iOS too!

Electric car of the year 2024: MG Windsor
The MG Windsor EV is a surprisingly good car, and is arguably the most practical and wellpriced electric vehicle you can buy right now. It’s a hatchback in every practical way, but is longer and more spacious than your typical hatchback. While the exterior styling is a hitor-miss depending on who you ask, this car is rather fun to drive and quite well equipped for typical city running and the occasional long drive on the highway, if you can plan for the range and charging effectively. While there might be small things to complain about here and there, and driving range isn’t the best in the segment, the Windsor EV is a rather practical and capable EV hot hatch that gets the pricing right. It’s chock full of tech too, especially that absolutely luxurious 15.6-inch screen along with plenty of tech options including wireless Android Auto and CarPlay.

Camera of the year 2024: Sony Alpha 9-III
The Sony Alpha 9-III has set a new standard for mirrorless cameras, offering exceptional performance for both professionals and serious enthusiasts. It could very well qualify for Innovation of the Year! With its stacked 35mm full-frame sensor, the Alpha 9-III delivers stunning 24.2 MP images with outstanding detail and excellent low-light performance. The camera’s 1/32000-second electronic shutter ensures there’s no blackout, making it perfect for capturing fast-action moments like sports and wildlife. The 759-point phase detection autofocus, now enhanced with real-time tracking, locks onto subjects quickly and accurately. With up to 20 fps continuous shooting and 5-axis in-body stabilization, the Alpha 9-III offers the speed, precision, and reliability that pros demand.

Drone/Action cam of the year 2024: GoPro Hero 13 Black
The GoPro has improved in more ways than one and right now the 13 Hero Black has opened its accessory kit with a new range of lenses that add variety and depth to what was becoming a boring ultra-wide affair. The Hero 13 Black remains the best action camera GoPro has ever made which is mostly thanks to a wide variety of interchangeable lenses like Macro and Anamorphic lenses and clever magnetic mounting capabilities. The point and shoot capabilities of the camera have been improved with auto detection of lenses. This removes all the guesswork and lets you capture the moment stress-free. If you want to shoot videos in low-light, DJI is a better option but if you’re interested in a more natural camera-like quality with official ND filters and LOG flexibility in post, the GoPro is still the best.

Smartwatch of the year 2024: Apple Watch series 10
The Apple Watch is now a decade old – and darned if we don’t still love it. This latest edition isn’t a sea change from older designs, but it’s a worthwhile tweak that makes the easiest smartwatch to live with a little bit easier still: the display is larger, the charging speed is quicker and the whole thing is thinner. If you own a Watch Series 9, it’s probably not enough to warrant the upgrade, but to those still rocking a Series 6 or older, the Series 10’s refinements will make it feel like a whole new device. The rest is all very solid, with a bewildering (in a good way) level of health monitoring features included, plus all the user-friendly design touches we’ve come to expect from Apple. We do wish battery life had got a boost while they were about it, but that can’t spoil the overall party – or stop the Series 10 from being our favourite smartwatch of 2024.

Fitness tracker of the year 2024: Gabit Smart Ring
Your smartwatch can be a fitness tracker, but then that prevents you from wearing a traditional watch, which obviously has its own charm. That’s where fitness tracking rings come in, and the Gabit Smart Ring is the best that you can buy in this segment - all things (including price) considered. The Gabit Smart Ring is crafted from titanium, making it particularly durable and resistant to typical wear and tear such as scuffs and scratches. It’s highly water resistant and offers over seven days of battery life on a charge as well, making it the kind of device you can just put on and forget about for days at a stretch. Exercise, heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, skin temperature, and more - this device has plenty of tracking metrics. It’s a game changer in this space, especially for the price.

Budget in-ears of the year 2024: CMF Buds Pro 2 By Nothing
The CMF brand has typically been focused on entry-level accessories and products, but the Buds Pro 2 pushes it in the right direction to really make a mark on the mid-range segments while retaining affordability. The case controls work well, sound is decent for the price thanks to a dual-driver setup and LDAC codec support, and the headset looks good. There’s very little to complain about with the CMF Buds Pro 2, especially at this price, and particularly so if you have an Android smartphone to be able to enjoy the benefits of advanced Bluetooth codec support. This is the kind of innovation the TWS segment needs, especially in the affordable space.

Significantly undercutting the AirPods Max, the Dyson OnTrac is meant for the evolved listener. They combine cutting-edge noise cancellation and exceptional sound quality. Equipped with eight active noise-cancelling microphones, they effectively block out up to 40dB of ambient noise, delivering a truly immersive listening experience. The 40mm custom-tuned drivers produce rich, detailed sound with extended frequency range that goes down to 6Hz, instead of the usual 20Hz. With a battery life of up to 55 hours on a single charge, these headphones are built to go the distance. Mid-range in-ears of the year 2024: OnePlus Buds Pro 3
OnePlus doesn’t price its true wireless headsets too high, but doesn’t really hold back on the features and specifications either. The OnePlus Buds Pro 3 continues to push this philosophy, offering decidedly premium-grade quality at a mid-tier price. There’s pretty much everything you want on a pair of true wireless earphones here; active noise cancellation, high-resolution Bluetooth codec support, convenient controls, good battery life, and Dynaudio tuning delivering decent sound and a fair degree of EQ customisability. Like most headsets from brands that also make smartphones, the Buds Pro 3 is optimised for use with a OnePlus smartphone, but don’t let that hold you back - it’s still great with any Android device.

True wireless headphone of the year 2024: Bowers and Wilkins Pi8
Taking advice from human body researchers for the Pi8 buds really paid off for Bowers & Wilkins: these in-ears offer a secure and comfortable fit, much more so than their predecessors, for true all-day wearability. The redesign means they sit securely in a wider variety of ear shapes and sizes, and it’s all change on the inside too: B&W has ditched the dualdriver setup for a single speaker using carbon cone tech, as used in the excellent Px8 over-ears. As well as being impressed by the design, we were won over by just how clear these in-ears are. With three mics per bud and the same ANC algorithms as the PX8s, they do a great job of quietening the outside world without colouring the sound. You can expect to listen at moderate volumes without missing out on any of those luscious fine details.

Gaming gadget of the year: Audeze Maxwell
Whatever headphones you’re using for gaming are not going to sound half as good as these. That’s why the Audeze Maxwell is our undisputed pick for the best gadget you can use while gaming. It’s not only pumping top-quality audio in your ears but it also manages music extremely well. Something gaming headsets have never managed to do. Seriously, the audio quality is so good it could rival those fancy highend headphones. The battery life is insane, the build quality feels super premium, and it’s comfy to wear for hours. And for that, these deserve a spot at the Stuff Gadget Awards.

PC game of the year: Prince of Persia: the Lost Crown
Surprisingly, our PC and Console games of the year are platformers and if you’re a fan, then these two picks are some of the best in the last decade. And this revival of one of the most beloved series has managed to please our expectations. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is challenging, rewarding and filled with fresh lore. Everyone who loves platformer games is going to enjoy this a lot and the 25-hour story is perfectly long enough to not overstay its welcome. It’s also one of the few Ubisoft games that took us by surprise, and that doesn’t happen often. After Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013), this has to be our favourite Ubisoft game of all time.

Console game of the year: Astro Bot
If you’re a PS5 owner feeling a bit glum at the paucity of titles that truly make the most of the console’s immense power, Astro Bot is the perfect tonic. Nothing less than a heartfelt love letter to the PlayStation era, this cutesy platformer wrings every drop of potential out of the haptics-packed DualSense controller, while running like an audiovisual dream: it’s a gorgeous, Pixar-esque adventure set in a pristinely rendered universe, with a gleefully eclectic score. It’s also a wonderfully involving and challenging 3D platformer with superb level design (full of secrets to uncover) and brilliantly inventive boss fights. Sony’s desire to keep PS4 owners happy has meant genuine PS5 exclusives have been way too thin on the ground, but this game feels like one that every owner of the new console should experience.
