The Rulebook (Version 5.0)
Validity: From Season 61, until further notice.
Supersedes: All previous versions, i.e. Ver. 1.0 (valid till S12), Ver. 2.0 (S13 to CoC #4), and Ver. 3.0 (S41 to CoC #5), Ver. 5.0 (S51 to CoC #6).
1. Seasons.
1.1. A typical Season consists of 15 questions.
1.2. 1 question will be posted every weekday (i.e. Mon to Fri) at 11:30 IST (i.e. Indian Standard Time).
1.3. Players will have 3 days to answer the questions, except Day 14 and Day 15, which are timed out at 09:30 AM on the Sunday following Day 15.
1.4. Answers are revealed only to the players whose responses have been recorded as Correct/Wrong/Pass/Forfeit in the Scoreboard.
1.5. Ten โRegular Seasonsโ culminate into the special โChampion of Championsโ Season. There are also โTopical Seasonsโ that are hosted irregularly in-between the โRegular Seasonsโ.
1.6. โChampion of Championsโ is an invitation-only Season for the podium finishers of the previous 10 โRegular Seasonsโ and some of the highest scoring Players in each Division.
1.7. There are three Divisions in the QuizKosh Quiz League. โAlphaโ is for Players with at least one score of 98 or above in the World Quizzing Championships; โBetaโ is for everyone else who has played WQC or similar proctored-solo quizzes of national or multinational stature. Online events donโt count. Lastly, โHome Playerโ Division is open to everyone else. There are no promotions or relegations; Players may move up whenever they have a better WQC result.
2. What is not allowed?
2.1. The standard rules of quizzing do apply here. This means no conferring or searching out answers and then replying. Consider this as a self-proctored tournament and abide by the rules.
2.2. Please do not drop hints or discuss the questions online or offline, until the answering time is over. Be respectful to other players, who are equally keen to play the question neutrally.
3. What is allowed?
3.1. It is always okay to ask the quizmaster for clarification to a question.
3.2. In case you know the answer in your local language but not in English, please do not hesitate to send it in that form. However, for smooth running of the Seasons, answers in English will be appreciated.
3.3. Also, it is highly encouraged to answer every question, because an inkling or a gut feeling can reward you points.
3.4. Unless stated in the question, last (family) names will suffice. However, if you give the wrong first name, your answer will be marked as incorrect.
3.5. As long as the answers are phonetically correct, they will be accepted.
4. Answering Methods.
4.1. Facebook: Players may send their answers to โQuizKoshโ via Facebook Messenger.
4.2. Instagram: Players may send a Direct Message to submit their answers.
4.3. Twitter: DONโT REPLY the answer to the question tweet. Instead, send a Private Message to the Twitter account . Replying to the tweet will cost a point, even if the answer is correct.
4.4. Players are requested to use only one mode of response for the entire Season. This is particularly helpful to the Quizmaster to keep track of the responses and marking the answers.
4.5. Only one answer is permitted per question, unless the player is eligible and chooses to use an โExtra Lifeโ. If the Player realizes that the first submitted answer is incorrect and the Quizmaster has yet to respond to that answer, then he/she is free to submit a new answer. Please note that only the last received answer will be considered. The Quizmaster will respond by sending thumbs up/down for a correct/incorrect answer.
4.6. While using an Extra Life, the words "Extra Life: " must be mentioned at the start of the message. This makes it easier for both the Player and the Quizmaster to acknowledge that a second attempt is made at the expense of the Extra Life.
4.7. It is preferred that Players mention the Day and then their answers in the manner โD1:โ for the answer to the question of Day 1 of a season, โD2:โ for Day 2 and likewise. This is helpful to the Quizmaster to correctly and quickly assess the submissions.
5. Scoring System.
5.1. There are two types of questions based on their difficulty. โNormalโ and โHardโ. These are indicated in the question posts.
5.2. โNormalโ questions are worth 1 point each.
5.3. โHardโ questions are worth 2 points plus 1 Extra Life.
5.4. A Regular Season will have 8 โNormalโ and 7 โHardโ questions.
5.5. There are no split points or negatives, unless specifically mentioned in the question. Incorrect answers will have 0 points.
5.6. In case a Player answers a โNormalโ question incorrectly but has Extra Lives available, he/she may opt to use one โExtra Liveโ and provide a second answer. Note: โExtra Lifeโ can only be used once against a โNormalโ question, even if a Player has more than 1 Extra Lives available in that Season. โExtra Lifeโ cannot be used on a โHardโ question.
5.7. Extra lives earned, can neither be converted into points nor be rolled-over to the next Season. They expire at the end of that Season.
5.8. If a Player does not respond to a question, it will be marked as โFโ meaning โForfeitโ.
5.9. If a Player responds by passing a question, it is understood that he/she does not know and/or does not want to answer. The response will be marked as โPโ meaning 'Passโ on the Scoreboard.
5.10. Players joining QuizKosh for the first time and playing a Season after D3 or D8 or D13 is over, will be scored on the available match days only. The match days exhausted will be left blank on the Scoreboard and not marked as 'Forfeit' or 'Pass'.
5.11. Scores are tabulated on the Scoreboard, the link to which is provided with each question. The Scoreboard is updated at least once on match days.
5.12. New players are allocated to their respective Divisions and are scored, but are not ranked in their rookie season.
6. Resolving Ties (at the end of a Season).
6.1. At the end of D15, if two or more Players are tied for the podium places, the winner will be decided by a Tiebreaker question.
6.2. Deadline for submitting answers to the Tiebreaker is 00:00 IST, Sunday (following the D15 Friday).
6.3. Everyone else is welcome to participate, but it will not give any additional points. The Tiebreaker is only meant to resolve ties in the podium.
6.4. If P player does not resolve the tie by forfeiting the Tiebreaker, and yet ends up getting a podium spot, that particular podium spot will not be considered for the season ending Champion of Champions lineup.
7. Post and Comment Policy.
7.1. Everyone is encouraged to write to us with their suggestions, new ideas or anything related to the quiz.
7.2. Please remember to talk to other players with respect and maintain the integrity of QuizKosh Quiz League. Posts and Comments containing profanity or personal attacks will not be tolerated and deleted immediately. Repeated offenders will be banned.
8. Fair Play.
8.1. This online quiz league is based entirely on your trust. There is no way to detect whether people are cheating or not. Therefore, we can only appeal to your sense of fair play, by refraining from looking up the answers.
8.2. Appropriate actions will be taken against a Player who is found to have cheated. People have been banned from future participation, so please be mindful.
9. Use of Questions:
9.1. QuizKosh will be most happy to see these questions fielded to a different set of audience. However in such a setting, it is expected that QuizKosh is notified beforehand and given the appropriate mention or credit.
9.2. QuizKosh does not discourage its Players and Members from maintaining individual databases of these questions. However, please do not make it public or share access.
9.3. A deliberate effort is made by the quiz setter(s) to refrain from lifting questions from another source. Any resemblance or an exact match happening is purely coincidental.
