Lockdown In Bengal For 2 Weeks From Tomorrow, Essential Services Allowed
Even West Bengal's transport services, including Kolkata Metro, will come to a halt under the Covid lockdown, the government has said.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government today announced that the state will go under a near lockdown for two weeks starting tomorrow. Looking to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections, all offices and educational institutions will be shut down during this period. Even transport services, including Kolkata Metro, will come to a halt, the government has said.
Only emergency services will be allowed, the state's notification says, adding that groceries and shops selling essential items will stay open between 7 am to 10 am, West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said today.

Interestingly, sweetmeat vendors will be allowed to function between 10 am and 5 pm. Similarly, petrol pumps will stay open and so will banks, although only between 10 am to 2 pm.

While industries will be closed, tea gardens will be allowed to function but only at 50 per cent strength.

No cultural, political, academic, administrative, or religious events and functions will be allowed in the state during the lockdown and no outdoor congregations will be permitted between 9 pm and 5 am, the government has said.

No more than 50 people will be allowed at wedding functions," Mr Bandyopadhyay said.

Covid impact: Mamata Banerjee postpones Kolkata film fest to Jan 8
Started in 1995, KIFF is one of the oldest film festivals in India, and over the years has become a star-studded annual event. It is organised by the state Information and Cultural Affairs department.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday deferred the 26th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) to January 8-15 in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The marquee event celebrating actors and movies was earlier scheduled to be held between November 5-12.

“After receiving global film fraternity’s consent, I hereby inform all stakeholders of the Kolkata International Film Festival & cine lovers that our festival has been rescheduled, given the current circumstances. It will now be held from Jan 8-15, 2021. Let the preparations begin!” Banerjee tweeted

After the announcement, KIFF said that the festival was likely to held online this year. “In view of Covid-19 pandemic, the 26th edition of Kolkata International Film Festival has been designed in a smarter frame giving due importance to social distancing. This edition is proposed primarily in online mode for the cine lovers, critics, actors and others so that they continue to feel the pulse of the gala international film festival in the cultural capital of India,” said KIFF on its website.

Physical screenings in a restrained manner were organised in the Shanghai International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival in July and September respectively, but at that time the pandemic was abating in those two places.

Covid 19 news..

Many covid 19 survivors are being treated as criminals in the society as if they are covid affected by choice,,,,,illiteracy percentage of this country really shows its effect to its people,,

Many covid 19 survivors are getting harrased ,,,,told to leave society housings if they are quarantined themselves at home. .

What the hell is going on this is a pandemic of covid,,,,today or after someday everyone will go through this corona virus,,,if today rapid test happens to random people walking freely on road out of 100 90 will be positive what if as a human we treat other humans who are covid patient as a criminal ,,,,,,we hv to understand no one got any control over it .

As per new ICMR guidelines ,,,,if any patient is covid positive they can consult a doctor if required they will go to hospital for treatment ,,,if not they can go for home quarantine for 14 days and after that no more test is require to live a normal life again,,, ,this news is already published in newspapers.

Still many neighbours,,,societys harrasing covid winners also if they want to go out and live a normal life after 14 days even.

We think police and govt should take out a law that if someone harrasing any covid patient and his or her family and even after 14 days guideline not letting them live a nornal life they should be arrested or punishable with something.

Karma will also punish bcz they person who will harras a covid survivor and their family the covid can come to that persons family also.

Are we loosing humanity also bcz of this pandemic,,,cant we educate ourselves with proper info and then think before doing any inhuman activity

Kolkata: Private hospital told to pay Rs 10-lakh fine for overcharging patient

The West Bengal Health Commission on Thursday issued an order against a private hospital in Kolkata and asked the authorities to deposit a fine of Rs 10 lakh for overcharging a Covid positive patient. The Commission, headed by Retired Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee, was hearing a case of a patient who had died inside an ambulance after DESUN Hospital allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh as admission fees.

West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission Chairman Justice (retd) Ashim Banerjee said, “The licence of DESUN Hospital should have been suspended. However, as it was not a case of wrong treatment, so there was no suspension order.”

The commission has further directed the hospital not to take any advance payment from any patient till the case is closed.

Kolkata lockdown Bengal corona updates: Total lockdown begins; Banks, Post offices, ration shops closed

West Bengal Kolkata lockdown latest news Coronavirus updates: Banks, Post offices, and Ration Shops are not allowed to open. Petrol pumps will remain open but vehicles allowed during the bi-weekly lockdown will get fuel.

West Bengal Kolkata lockdown news Coronavirus updates: Total lockdown has been enforced in West Bengal. The bi-weekly total lockdown has begun today even as the Mamata Banerjee governemnt has authorities maintain strict vigil to check the rapid spread of Coronavirus. People’s casual approach to lockdown guidelines and quarantine norms are causes of concern for the administration. Notably, Banks, Post Offices, and ration shops are not allowed to open in the state on July 23, 25, and 29. Apart from the bi-weekly lockdown, local administration in several areas in three districts — North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, and Bardhaman — has decided to enforce total lockdown.

Deserted road, closed shops, no transport – total lockdown is underway across West Bengal. Special police teams were seen patrolling various parts of the city, especially containment zones. Barricades were put up in various parts of the state to stop people from coming out of their homes and areas.

The Mamata Banerjee government has said that a statewide total lockdown has been enforced on Thursday. A similar lockdown will be imposed on July 25 (Saturday) and July 29 (Wednesday) from 6 am to 10 pm on each day.

Banks, Post offices, and Ration Shops are not allowed to open. Petrol pumps will remain open but vehicles allowed during the bi-weekly lockdown will get fuel.

Factories and construction works where labourers stay on-site will also be allowed to function on the lockdown days.

Norms of physical distancing, wearing of masks, health and hygiene protocol must be strictly adhered to at all times, a government order said.

A lockdown has been imposed in the Bardhaman municipality for 7 days starting from Wednesday. Markets are closed, transportation is not available. Only emergency services are allowed to remain operational. Fish market and vegetable mandis will remain open till 11 am during this lockdown period.

Baranagore, a municipality of North 24 Parganas district, has been placed under total lockdown 7 days from Wednesday

A total lockdown will be enforced in Barasat, a municipality of North 24 Parganas district, from July 25 to July 31.

A lockdown has been enforced North 24 Parganas’ Barrackpore municipality from July 23 to July 30.

A lockdown has been announced six prominent regions in Birbhum district July 24 to July 31.

As per the guidelines issued by the Mamata Banerjee government, the Containment zone-wise lockdown, which began on July 9, will continue till continue July 31.

The city-wise lockdown in the state, which began on July 15, will also remain effective.

During the bi-weekly total lockdown, strict curbs will be imposed from 6 am to 10 pm.

During the bi-weekly total lockdown, people’s movement, apart from emergency purposes, will be restricted from 10 pm to 5 am.

The government and private offices, industrial units will remain closed. Private transportation won’t be allowed.

Crowded markets will remain closed.

Health workers, persons employed in emergency services will be allowed to ply on private and personal vehicles.

Medical shops, courts, fire-brigade will continue to operate.

Inter-state goods transportation, e-commerce will be allowed.

Restaurants, hotels can operate with home delivery options.

No vacancy in Kolkata’s private hospitals as Covid-19 cases double in 15 days

The number of active cases in Kolkata has doubled in the last fortnight. While on June 29 the city had 1,772 active cases, on Sunday the number was 3,568. The state has 10,500 active cases at present.

There are no beds left to treat Covid-19 patients in several private hospitals in Kolkata while in others the number of beds is fast drying up as the city has witnessed a sharp spike in Covid-19 positive cases.

The number of active cases in Kolkata has doubled in the last fortnight. While on June 29 the city had 1,772 active cases, on Sunday the number was 3,568. The state has 10,500 active cases at present.

While the state-government has prepared 10,862 beds in 80 Covid-19 designated hospitals across the state, in Kolkata there are 2,062 beds in seven state-run hospitals and hospitals that the government has designated as Covid-19 hospitals.

In addition to this there are 1,414 beds in 32 private hospitals in Kolkata, including some of the city’s best known super-specialty hospitals, where Covid-19 patients are being treated. In North 24 Parganas and in the satellite towns of New Town and Salt Lake there are a few other private hospitals with around 336 beds.

According to figures released by the government, in at least 13 of these 32 hospitals in the city there are no beds vacant as on date. In the rest, only around 218 beds were vacant as reported by the respective hospitals.

“Government hospitals have more than 10,000 beds for Covid-19 patents across the state. Compared to this the private hospitals are limited and have less than 2,000 beds. Hence they are drying up fast. We still have a huge vacancy in government hospitals and the number of beds is also being increased,” said a top official of the state health department.

In government hospitals 70% of the beds are vacant, while less than 20% of the private hospitals’ beds are vacant.

“Most of the people living in cities like Kolkata and urban areas are more inclined towards private health care facilities even though the state-run hospitals in Bengal offer the best treatment at lower cost,” said an expert associated with the global advisory body that has been set up to advise the Mamata Banerjee administration.

To cope up with the health crisis, many top private hospitals in the city have launched ‘home care packages’ for Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms undergoing treatment at home.

“We have three packages ranging from Rs 4,500 to Rs 16,000. This includes tele-consultation, tool-kit comprising masks, PPE, gloves, pulse oximeter and vaporizer among others which are home delivered and emergency services such as free ambulance pick up. But the patient must be less than 58-years of age, must have mild symptoms and should not have diseases such as diabetes and asthma,” said a senior doctor of a hospital in south Kolkata.

In June, the government had tied up with some private hospitals in Kolkata to start Satellite Health Facilities (SHFs), a variant of observation wards in healthcare units’ vicinity, where coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients with mild or no symptoms could be treated, while setting aside beds in the dedicated hospitals for critically-ill patients.

Earlier, the state had come up with 106 “safe home centres” in Kolkata with a capacity of over 6,000 beds, where mild and asymptomatic patients could be treated.

“Both these arrangements – SHFs and SHCs – were launched for the first time in India in a bid to keep hospital beds free for critically ill Covid-19 patients amid a daily spike in the number of positive cases,” a senior official said.

Kolkata: Kalighat temple to open its doors from July 1
Despite the government allowing places of worship to open from June 1, Kalighat trustees decided not to reopen the temple because of the rising Covid cases, and keeping in mind devotees’ safety.

Only 10 devotees will be allowed at a time.
The iconic Kalighat Temple here will reopen from July 1, more than three months after being closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Following government rules about social distancing, more than 10 people will not be allowed at a time inside the temple.

A temple spokesperson said devotees will have to wear a mask and gloves. “Sanitisers will be provided to visitors before entering the temple. Devotees will be allowed if they wear masks and gloves. At least a gap of six feet must be maintained between two persons,” the spokesperson said.

Despite the government allowing places of worship to open from June 1, Kalighat trustees decided not to reopen the temple because of the rising Covid cases, and keeping in mind devotees’ safety.
