Directorate of Tourism Jammu Celebrates World Tourism Day with Heritage, Adventure and Sustainability at Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, Jammu.
Jammu, September 27, 2023–
The Directorate of Tourism Jammu illuminated the spirit of World Tourism Day with an enchanting celebration hosted at the iconic Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex in Jammu. The event, themed “Tourism and Green Investments,” highlighted the vital role of eco-friendly practices in shaping a sustainable tourism future. This spectacular event, held on September 27th, stands as a testament to the department’s unwavering commitment not only to promote tourism but also to preserve the rich cultural heritage of this historically significant region.
Addressing the media Director Tourism Jammu, Sh. Vivekanand Rai, emphasized that this celebration served as a beacon of awareness for Sustainable Tourism, emphasizing the pivotal role it plays in addressing climate change and fostering innovative solutions for environmental preservation. He further added that this celebration was a poignant reminder of the inseparable link between the well-being of the environment and the growth and productivity of the tourism sector.
Mrs.Sunaina Mehta Sharma, JKAS, Joint Director Tourism underscored that tourism sector is a driving force for employment generation and sustainable tourism /Eco friendly practices are essential for preserving our planet and ensuring that future generations can cherish the world's beauty. Miss. Sharma, as a leader in this field, emphasized on the need to reflect on responsible tourism , honour local culture, and support host communities. She urged everyone to work together to make tourism a positive force, striving for a future where tourism enriches lives, respects the planet, and fosters global unity.
The day was filled with enlightening panel discussions that brought together a distinguished group of experts from Jammu University, adding tremendous value to the event. The esteemed panelists were:
- Ms. Nisha Pandit, Director (operations) -Authentic journeys India and beyond.
- Ms Honeyka Mahajan-faculty SHTM ,JU.
- Mr. Vaibhav Sharma: Entrepreneur and Founder of Travelers dost.
- Mr. Ranjeet Singh:Research Scholar, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM),University of Jammu.
The panel discussions were moderated by Mr.Ashmit, a student of School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM), University of Jammu.
These luminaries engaged in captivating conversations that delved into various facets of tourism potential and promotion in the resplendent land of Jammu. The themes explored included the latest initiatives undertaken by the Directorate of Tourism in Jammu, the formidable challenges faced, Jammu's emergence as a hub of adventure tourism, the imperative of eco-tourism, and the promotion of sustainable tourism practices. Moreover, the event also shed light on the "Go Green (Mission Life)" initiatives aimed at harmonizing tourism with environmental conservation.
Furthermore, these distinguished dignitaries not only shared their wisdom during the panel discussions but also actively participated in a conscientious cleanliness drive at the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, alongside prominent citizens and representatives from the travel trade fraternity including Capt. Anil Gaur, President TAAJ, Mr. Amrik Singh, President JATO, Mr. Pankaj Vaid Treasurer TAAJ, Mr. Rajinder Sharma, Gen. Secy. TAAJ, and other esteemed members of TAAJ like Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Mr. Daljeet Dubey & Mr. Bawa Sawhney. Their hands-on involvement underscored the commitment of the Directorate of Tourism towards preserving the sanctity of historical landmarks and promoting responsible tourism.
Sh. Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Director, Tourism, added, "As we look forward, the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, remains committed to the cause of enhancing the tourism landscape of this exquisite region while preserving its natural beauty and historical splendor.
In addition to the Mubarak Mandi celebration, World Tourism Day was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm across all the Districts of Jammu Division by Tourist Office staff through cleanliness drives,Plantation drives ,awareness camps at various tourist destinations.
In conclusion, World Tourism Day 2023 at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex was a remarkable event that showcased the tourism potential and the cultural heritage of Jammu. Secretary Tourism makes many announcements to empower youth of Warwan within the tourism sector.

The two-day Warwan Festival, nestled in the picturesque Kavyard region of Warwan Tehsil within Kishtwar district, culminated with an exhilarating fusion of cultural and adventure activities. This grand spectacle was impeccably orchestrated by the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, in collaboration with the District Administration Kishtwar and the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages.

Drawing an impressive assembly of over 10,000 tourists and adventure aficionados over the span of two days, the festival was inaugurated by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Tourism & Culture departments. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, and Joint Director of Tourism, Mrs. Sunaina Sharma Mehta ,JKAS

The festival offered a wide array of activities, ranging from serene yoga sessions to heart-pounding marathon races, from graceful horseback rides to captivating live painting exhibitions. Adventure enthusiasts reveled in enthralling activities such as trekking through scenic landscapes, joining spirited bike rallies, and embarking on angling expeditions. Nature enthusiasts indulged in leisurely nature walks and stargazing sessions. Sports enthusiasts engaged in sports activities like volleyball, kho kho, and tug-of-war. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, the festival featured exhilarating river rafting adventures for the forest time ever in those picturesque location . The entertainment quotient was elevated by captivating live musical performances by a lineup of exceptionally talented artists, including Kabul Bukhari, Naseem Ul Haq, Zulaikha Fareed, and several renowned local luminaries.

The Wadwan festival was held for two days, attracting not only tourists from Kishtwar but also from the neighboring Kashmir region. The first day saw the presence of approximately 6,000 attendees, with over 4,000 participants immersing themselves in the concluding day's festivities. The active participation of the local community contributed an additional layer of vibrancy to the event. The general public appreciated the role of the Tourism Department Jammu & Kashmir and District Administration Kishtwar for organising the festival.

The Warwan Festival will now firmly etch its place within national tourism circuits, cementing its status as a significant cultural and adventure extravaganza on the annual calendar.

During his address, Secretary Tourism Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed expressed the commitment to develop the region as a tourism hub. He announced the establishment of Yuva Tourism Club in Warwan, an initiative set to ignite the spirit of youth towards tourism. Furthermore, he directed the officers of the Directorate of Tourism Jammu to provide the training to tourist guides and the registration of adventure tour operators from the Warwan Valley within the next month. In addition, he committed to the registration of one hundred homestays in Warwan and the provision of skill development training to the local youth in collaboration with reputed national stakeholders. The exciting announcements included the imminent introduction of rafting and adventure activities in Warwan and the identification of three trekking routes to attract international trekkers, and the ambitious endeavor to place Warwan on the international tourism map. He further highlighted the importance of preserving the region's pristine natural beauty and rich cultural heritage for the benefit of future generations was underscored with resounding emphasis.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, lauded the tireless efforts of the entire team of officers, the Tourism Department, and all stakeholders involved in the seamless ex*****on of this magnificent event. He shared his optimism regarding the transformative potential of tourism in enhancing the livelihood opportunities for the residents of Warwan.

Ms Sunaina Sharma Mehta, in her address, underscored the pivotal role of homestays in offering tourists an authentic experience of the local way of life by staying with warm local families. She emphasized the untapped potential of the Warwan Valley for adventure tourism, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the Directorate of Tourism Jammu to its promotion.

The festival was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including SSP Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal, ADC Kishtwar Inderjeet Singh, CEO KDA Sh. Rishi Sharma, Deputy Director of Tourism Abdul Jabber, AD Tourism Arif Lone, SDM Marwah Dr. Mohsin Raza, SDM Chatroo Shokat Hayat Matoo, Tehsildar Kishtwar Muneeb Umar, DIO Kishtwar Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, and other esteemed officials from the Civil and Police administrations.

Prominent figures from the Marwah Sub-Division, including DDC members, BDC members, and PRIs, wholeheartedly participated in the festival with unparalleled enthusiasm and passion, making invaluable contributions to its resounding success.

Sanction of Children Education Allowance to employees of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board by Hon’ble Chairman SMVDSB (Hon’ble LG, J&K UT).

On completion of Glorious 37 years of Shrine Board, Hon’ble Chairman SMVDSB congratulated all employees of Shrine Board for their hard work and dedication which has resulted in the progress and development of Shrine Board making it one of the best managed religious places in world. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chairman SMVDSB (Hon’ble LG, J&K UT) gifted the employees of Shrine Board with Children Education Allowance thereby fulfilling long pending demand of employees. With the sanction of Children Education Allowance, Shrine Board will incur additional expenditure of Rs 6.50 Cr annually for the employees. It is pertinent to mention here that Shrine Board spends more than Rs 200 Cr annually on its employees in shape of salaries plus allowances, hardship allowance, reimbursement of fee (SMVDU and SMVDCoN), merit scholarships, transport facility, medical support, uniforms and allied items, Diwali incentive etc. Most of these allowances are not available to employees of J&K Government but are being provided by Shrine Board to its employees as a recognition of their hard work and sincere efforts.

श्राइन बोर्ड कर्मचारी यूनियन की तरफ से आपातकालीन मीटिंग आधकुवरी में हुई ,जिसमे यूनियन के प्रधान राज कुमार,जनरल सेक्टरी परशोतम सिंह सफाई यूनियन दीवान चंद,और परवीन कुमार सहित काफी संख्या में कर्मियों ने भाग लिया,कर्मियों ने प्रशासन पर मागो को लेकर दुलमुल रवैया अपनाया का आरोप लगाया गया , स्टाफ की पैंडिंग डिमांड्स चिल्ड्रन और ट्रेवलिंग अलाउंस स्टाफ के लिए गाड़ी, मैनपावर की कमी को दूर करना सहित अन्य मांगों को लेकर प्रशासन को कई बार लिखित दिया गया है,8 अगस्त को अलग अलग जगहों से आए हुए कर्मियों ने सीईओ को मेमोरेंडम सौंपा था, उन्होंने कर्मियों को यकीन दिलाया था,एक दो मांग को जल्दी हल किया जायेगा, मगर एक महीना बीत गया,अभी तक कोई इश्यू हल नहीं हुआ है,जिसके कारण स्टाफ में नाराजगी और गुस्सा बड रहा है, अगर समय रहते हुए मांगे हल नही होती है तो स्टाफ पेन डाउन स्ट्राइक पर जाने को मजबूर हो जायेगा,अगर ऐसे हालात बनते है,तो इसके लिए प्रशासन का अड़ियल रवैया जिमेबार होगा ।।
