फ़ातिमा शेख वह अज़ीम शख्सियत हैं जिसने महिलाओं की शिक्षा की शुरुआत में अहम रोल निभाया। जब 1848 में सावित्री बाई फूले ने लड़कियों की तालीम के लिए तहरीक शुरू की तो पुणे के सारे ब्राह्मनों ने एकजुट हो कर हिन्दू लडकियों के स्कूल जाने का विरोध किया। ऐसे में, फ़ातिमा शेख ने बहादुरी के साथ पहल की और तमाम सामाजिक विरोध के बावजूद वह लड़कियों की तालीम की हिमायत में सावित्रीबाई फूले के साथ खड़ी हुई। दोनों की मुहिम रंग लाई और उस्मान शेख़ के घर में लड़कियों का पहला स्कूल खुला और फ़ातिमा शेख़ उनकी पहली टीचर बनी। वह एक आइकॉन हैं।
