“We don’t cut salaries based on leaves taken unless its a very long leave”

At .co and , we haven’t done this for the past 3 Years of our journey.

Infact, I don’t believe in the same.

I value Transparency & Accountability over rules.

If i were to think my own experience, when the college dean did not allow me to take leaves - i lied. Sick leaves were always a thing. i feared, what if i be a little honest.
I may be disapproved and punished.

I did not allow that to happen with me in our organization. I am more than happy if the team comes to me or write me a mail that is honest and true.

I find it cute :) at the same time, i found that the Team figure out a way to be more accountable at their Tasks.

Some shares their pending works with the peers, some make sure they are available during their travel, some completes before in hand or some request me to do their work.

All of this without even telling them to do. Now thats what i call “Reciprocity” in Team building or Leadership.

We are ready to compromise first, then we hope the team will too, when the organization needs their help. We believe in “Give and Take” relationships and I believe that the company should be the one to give firsts.

It was raining perspectives today 🪄

You taught Creativity doesn’t come with a cost, You took our imaginations to a whole new level, You moved us with little things.

“ അറിവുകളല്ല വേണ്ടത്, തിരിച്ചറിവുകളാണ്“ . indeed it is in the detailed observations, great work happens.

You also explained the difference between Doing the work for the sake of the work done and for impact creation.

An Excerpt from the Graduation Address i have given today 👇

~ Principle of Giving 🎈

The Giving principle states that, irrespective of the size of the place you work or the type of the person you live with - You make the places better.

Be it your Department, Organization, Team member, Partner or more.

The Rule of Giving says that

👉 You should be the first one to Give and Last one to Take credits for.

👉 Wherever you go - Make it better !! without any expectations.

👉 Always try to Connect the Dots backwards.

👉 Do what you love, only then you’ll be ready to Give, Give More !

Taking examples from .co , when i started working with my first client who use to pay me 5k a month.

I never thought, why should i do more for 5k. Instead, i wanted to give more, Do more, Help my clients makes revenue more, Followers more and so many more’s.

✅ Result : I won a portfolio which helped me close more and also close big.

The same way, when the initial team joined .co , they have never thought i have joined a small company instead, they did more. More than ever the organisation gave them, they gave towards the org without expecting.

✅ Result : Today they are board members of the company.

So whichever the place you starting to work, be it small, tiny or big company Live with the “Principle of Giving”

Take charge and act as if you are CEO to the company. If you are working with clients, Make clients goals yours more than the client’s themselves.

You’ll eventually be at way better places than you ever imagined to be.

And yes, it is about Hiring and Managing people for the “Social Revolution “. About being empathetic, communicating a lot, Giving freedom, Going against old bookish rule of managing people and business! 💯

We literally mean this at our academy!

Of all the conversations we do at our academy , moments when we discuss about stars, science & things beyond our limit or imaginations are the bestest.

We take 12 ad videos from nowhere, Start a new course from a random discussions , Solve problems on a tea break and build system together ❤️

Thats what happens, when you enjoy what you do. You fall in love with the process so much that, you sometimes forget about the destination or keep it subtle.

In business, In life and In Relationships- we all have goals about where we have to reach, How much money you have to make, How our partner should be, How my future would be and more.

Yes, It is important to have goals but when connecting the dots backwards, it is more important to have some dots brightening with moments of Laugh, Experiments, Failures, Growth and lots of big fat plannings.

There are two types of Artist according to me.

One who do things such as Write, design, Draw, Speak for the sake of doing it.

And One who clearly understands whom this work cater to, Why am i doing things (Write, Design, Draw or Speak) the way it is and do it.

Differences?

Second type of people serve with their skills.

Their works will either help the other person/ organization makes some more money, grab more attention or build engagements in short - help the other person achieve his/her goals.

It is not just visually pleasing but it also helps to convert, engage or move any needle.

These type of people will charge more. They value their time. Their works helps you get more customers, more engagement or anything for that matter.

They experiment. They grab every opportunity & They excel.

Always try to become the second one.

If you do it, any skills for that matter. For the sake if doing it - you ll be doing the same for long.

But if you simply change your mind- may be it can take you places.

Think about it - all the great artists are always the people who were never satisfied with the way they serve.

I love Documenting. I Love Building it in Public.Its a free advertisement. I have around 1000 story visitors daily and if 10 people refer me to their buddies, thats more than enough to get going. I made have made more than 2 CR just from Instagram and linkedin.

Business that comes in my DM’s, Students who join our academy through refer, People who fill out forms in website after watching my stories. Yes, It worked for me like crazy.

I act like a brand ambassador, Like a celebrity, Like an influencer for my own business, Thoughts, Ideas.

A Brand is buit on Continuity. Consistently going infront of the audience with the same story, same colour, same font and similar thoughts. Tell people thousand times for what your business or you stand for. Just like the AD that comes hundreds of times between epsodes. The Goal of Documentation is the same. Let it stick - your story, your thoughts, your works !

I mean, whats wrong with it. Some businesses pays millions to do the same with another person and why are you shy to do it yourself.

Documenting the professional life has power. Its the story your are telling. Your audience feel connected. You are not boasting, you are Story telling. You are connecting your audience emotionally. And it feels so good to look back at the archives and fill your heart with so much Gratitude 🤌 ! It really Does.

It was pool of knowledge for me to learn from him that day.

“ World you have created is a product of your thinking, if you want to change the world - change the way you think” He said.

See the world in your own imaginations, let it cross limits. Let it have boundaries distanced to the goals you have achieved till now. Be curious, see it in your head, add colours to your visuals and work hard everyday. Be the lover of the process not the goals.

One of the misconceptions about Give&Take Policy is that, it has to start from Lower hierarchy to Upper.

WRONG ❌

As a leader, Boss, Manager or Whatever you call:

✅ You should be the one who say sorry if done a mistake.

✅ You should be the one who take responsibility on the actions.

✅ You should be Kind & Empathetic before you expect your team to be.

✅ You should be the one to communicate, lend help, experiment and everything.

You should initiate and let other follow 💯

Just like you hear they say,

Particular Son’s or Daughter’s behaviour is just like their parents.
By looking at the organisational culture and its people’s behaviour within its customers and fellow members - you can predict its leader’s behaviour.

How do we operate internally at .co ?

This is one question i got a lot recently!

Well, Here’s how 👇

We are no more a single company.

A few months before, We have divided each of the departments into each entity.

I ll explain ..

We now have 7 Dept comprising of SEO, E-commerce, Paid Ads (Non ecom) , SMM, Production, Web development & Branding .

And Each Dept has a leader (grateful & super proud of them 🫶) , more like a Co - Founder to the organisation.

Every month, P&L of the Dept be shared with the Dept Head & Entire Dept (Total Transparency 💯❤️)

After Checking the Revenue & Expenses for the dept, Whatever left - A Percentage of Profit will be shared to Dept head and very soon to Entire Dept.

Now for a fact, E-Commerce dept takes the help of Production dept for some ads, photography or anything.

An invoice has to@be raised by Production dept internally to Ecom dept ( That means, it ll be an expense for one dept & Income for the other).

And Departments that cater to whole of the organization such as

👉 Accounts
👉 HR
👉 Founder Salary
👉 Creative Dept (Recently added this dept , Their Goal is just ideate and execute campaigns for clients)
👉 Other expenses as Rent, Electricity and more

These expenses will be equally divided with all the 7 Depts.

Company’s vision is to make each of the dept sustain by itself in the near future profitably & Build along with its team where if the organisation loose a client, everyone looses & if they win, everyone win 🥇

This also gives an opportunity for everyone to earn more than what they have been paid monthly as per the growth of the company.

Now This helped me in 👇

✅ Identifying the dept which is less generating profit. Costing is much clarity here !!

✅ Understanding whether the dept can accomodate a hiring.

✅ Incentivising everyone who work along the firm & take them along with the org.

✅ Closing & Retaining clients faster & better.

✅ Cultivating Founder mindset with everyone.

✅ Avoiding unwanted Hires in the firm.

One fine day, i got a DM from which says “ You guys are doing a great job” and i couldn’t believe my eyes 🥲

I immediately replied with a surprised Gif and a few days then, my urge for inviting him to our academy made me send a cold dm to him asking “ will it possible for you to attend our “.

To my surprise again.
He replied “he is visiting Kerala in 6 Days from today for an event”

All of a sudden i called and told, lets take our students to kochi and do our 1% Session there.

along with and suggested, lets do a D2C Event itself.

From then, it was a roller coaster ride for next 5 days to make it a successful event.

I must say, what a Humble & Energy packet you are !

Every conversation i had with you, i never for a single second felt that i am talking to the guy who have been the buzzword for D2C culture in India and Dedicated his time to teach other people his secret ingredients.

Can’t thank enough and for the support & encouragement you have shared.

I have always shared my wins but Here are some of the things i failed miserably 👇

1. Was teased on a daily basis by friends and near relatives on not able to pronounce the letter “R” during my childhood. Instead i used to pronounce it as “Gha” & people use to tease me by calling “Haghis”.

2. Had to sit twice in 6th std. I was not qualified by their exam.

3. Started career as a marketing head for an early agency in ksd called Nuiverr Inc (may be thats one of the first few agencies in kerala) , couldn’t scale them. Left the job, after a few months.

4. Worked as a Network marketer in a course selling business for around a year and half. Had to stop doing it after hundreds of presentations done on streets, railway platforms and every corner possible. No money No food days.

5. Started a Design agency called Ikode with best friend and had to quit again because we were not getting clients.

6. Started Printing high quality success based magazine called “Triumph” with my best friends and ended up in a debt of around 1.5 lakhs per edition during my plus two or early college times.

Attempted hundreds of possible ways to make it work but didn’t succeed.

I think, There is no school left in Kasaragod to Kannur safvan and ak didn’t travelled for getting student’s subscriptions.

7. Conducted various competitions in kasaragod. Like Quiz, Speech etc.Failed miserably. Some of the event had just 3 participants who took all the three positions.

8. Ideated and Worked on a startup called OROO, Rental based startup. Pitched to the investors in XLRI event cochin. Not only failed there but was not able to scale the startup. Dissolved the team.

9. Worked as a marketing manager for a cafe in kasaragod. Worked in all roles from managers to finance to sometimes as a cook. Made some money and went for 45 days All india trip.

10. Ideated and worked for a few months on an idea of making plates with leaves and failed.

11. Worked on Conducting a Scholarship exam to repay the debts to printer who printed our Triumph Magazine. 1 month of continuous running behind and Doing strike under the management of a school to get money from them.

We don’t see that kind of
effort with us.

I replied “ Thats because, I give freedom to my team to experiment & explore whatever they want to do.

With freedom comes best of the creativity and you cant expect every creative to be best.

If you demotivate or Shout at them in one - they wont try next time with the fear of Mistakes. It is How you deal with your bad creatives gives you the best one from the same team.

Give freedom for sometime and see Magic. It can happen for your brand too.

You cannot put people inside a box and ask them to come up with Out of Box ideas “

1: It starts with immediate people

When you start from the scratch, you have nothing to show but your skills alone.

When you are in this phase - Announce your skills with the immediate people in your socials and family plus start Writing, Documenting on a consistent basis about your professional journey.

You can also use the credentials of the place you have learned to build trust or create Dummy work for Brands (eg Spec Ad)

2: Brand it with your Employees & Clients

Announce and welcome your Employees and Clients like you are signing someone from the fortune 500 company or you are collaborating with a great venture.

Work hard to give these clients the results they look forward.

You can also work on a revenue share basis than fixed retainer to close first few clients faster.
Win win deal for both 🤝

3: Portfolio Portfolio Portfolio 🗣️

Celebrate and advertise your little wins of clients like nothing else matters.
Let your Socials, whatsapp status and everywhere to be filled with screenshots and case studies.

Use present portfolio or take debts from clients brand value to win other brand and attract great talents.

My second client was Bluetyga from VKC, i used to start my presentation with the new clients by “ Bluetyga from VKC is handled by Our agency”.

4: This phase is all about scaling 🚀

Even though you are at the final phase, Dont stop all the three above steps even if you are at the top.

Work on Brand awareness and top of the funnel activities here to show Dominance.

Strengthen your brand with the team, campaigns, PR Activities, Awards,Events, Networking all together.

Increase the Value on all sides and serve faster and better.

Window wide open , we are often treated to look whats outside and be glamorous about it 💯

School going child was asked to check the marks of his neighbour’s first and his second.

Our Work life was always compared to the one who is better than us.

And during when you marry, you were always obsessed with the other person’s qualities and never observed yours (i know you are noding you head reading this*)

Reality is that,
We often asked to Clap for others and never asked to pat our own back.

Thats the root where it all starts.

We never had time to think about ourselves.

Our tongues never uttered something beautiful about our hearts, Our heart never beat twice for our brain & our brain never appreciated our looks.

We forget our qualities.
We are forget to appreciate ourselves.
We forget to be happy and grateful.

Thats where the important of thr campaign presented by comes into picture 💯

When the students were asked to shout their qualities,
“They don’t know”.

And when the same students asked to shout the qualities of their friends

“they have hundred points in their tongue”.

Its time we make that shift 🫶

Before I get the Next Haris

I told her, “ i ll never ask you to change something you believe in or you want do”

As long as it doesn’t Affect any of us.

And the one which Affect us, “ We Communicate and Figure out”

The other day i was having a very beautiful conversation with & about Relationship.

There was a few points we discussed which i want to carry forever with me 💖

A good relationship is the one where both of them are “receptive to change”. 💯

We all grew with different environments and personalities.

When two people from different perspectives come together - Instead of adjusting to each other, If we can compromise equally.

That would make a positive difference.

Transparency is directly proportional to how you treat each other when things go wrong.

What you see as small may not be small for the other person. we are the Combination/ Addition of so many smaller events.

Never Underestimate your small with someone’s Big.

And “Communication” is the Key to all the positive relationships.

So many value points, so little time.

That was one good day.

One thing i learned from you is Planning.

Be it the things needs to be purchased on the next day or the Investment that has to go 3 months later - You can find all of that on her excel :)

And yes, i am very proud to see you hitting goals one by one and cant wait to hit more goal together.
