Rs 2 Crore in Cash and Gold Seized From Assam Officer Who Joined Service in 2019
An Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, Nupur Bora, has been arrested after authorities discovered wealth far beyond her known sources of income.
Acting on complaints, the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell raided her Guwahati residence, recovering around ₹92 lakh in cash and gold and jewellery worth nearly ₹1 crore. An additional ₹10 lakh in cash was seized from her rented accommodation in Barpeta.
Originally from Golaghat, Bora entered the Assam Civil Service in 2019 and was most recently posted as the Circle Officer of Goroimari in Kamrup district.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Bora had been under close watch for six months. According to him, while serving in Barpeta, she was allegedly involved in dubious land transactions. “This officer transferred Hindu-owned land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money. We have acted firmly against such corruption,” he stated.
Officials also raided the home of her alleged accomplice, Lat Mandal Surajit Deka, an employee of the Barpeta revenue circle. Investigators suspect Bora, along with Deka, purchased multiple land properties in Barpeta during her tenure there.
The Chief Minister further noted that corruption in revenue offices is rampant in minority-dominated areas, and the government intends to crack down hard on such practices.
